Make the skin $10, literally everyone will buy it to commemorate Faker, 140 *million* users buy your skin, you make $1,400,000,000 like nothing. Or Make the skin $50 dollars, the bundle $500, sour a community's favor which has already been on an aggressive downturn, and make about $10,000 instead *and* ruin even more favor from your community. Lmao, you are delusional if you think they wont make money from this, this past years have shown how little online comunities care about money, they will throw money like dumbasses to companies. Maybe they wont sell as much but the price will make up for it
@@MarcokalendileoIt's obvious what they were trying to say, that Riot would make more money by lowering the cost to appeal to a wider market. No one said anything about Riot not making money from this. Of course they will! But they would make even more money by appealing to a wider market. Much easier to justify the purchase of a $10-15 skin than a $500. If you still don't understand than you need to get off the games and take some classes on economics.😂
@@CattildoI mean they have people that their literal job is to study the market to make prices as profitable for Riot as possible.. obviously they will make a shitton of money from this.
£500 is nothing to scoff at. I'd very much doubt that they would feasibly be able to make *more* money by having it at a premium price than dropping it lower so that more people can actually buy it comfortably. It's very simple supply and demand, the higher the price is, the less people are willing to buy it. Especially now that there's such drastic backlash. I'm certain that if they made it £50, they would make a lot more money because a larger majority of the community would be willing to buy it.
It’s almost as if Riot used faker as a huge cash grab. Instead of wanting to actually honor a legend and icon of their game. Instead just want to use him as a market ploy to milk. This comes off really disrespectful. The whole point of doing this is to honor the great of all time. Not to be a cash grab. Really poor taste.

This whole price controversy feels like a slap on the face. Even if you don't care much about competitive league or esports you can't deny the impact Faker had on lol esports over 10 years. -from his incredible skills -to the many worlds he won -to his overall personality and sheer determination and passion for lol competitive These things showed how much Faker truly defied League as a whole. So to see him be granted in the Hall of Fame to be *immortalized* was really exciting. YES before the price was revealed a lot of us in the community were excited about this skin. From the preview trailers to the cinematic to the overall gameplay of that skin was really cool. A lot of us actually wanted it not because the skin looked cool but in honour of Faker's legacy. And then everything changed when the price was revealed. the fact that *YOU CAN'T REROLL THIS SKIN AFTER THE EVENT* feels like a sick joke for a skin that's supposed to immortalize Faker's legacy. even if Riot listens the only minimal changes they can do is lower the price to like idk $250 (which still doesn't justify buying this) or make it where we are allowed to reroll this skin post-event. regardless it's not worth it.
$50 dollars. $100 max for everything. but even that is pushing it. $250 is still ridiculous and if that’s the price decrease they’re doing then they really don’t care.
The fact they made it 500$ and only available for a limited time just says everything about RIOT you need to know, all this is is just a cash grab, only credit I give them is that they actually made an effort for it.

My biggest gripe with this scam isn't about the skin or the price. It's about locking FAKER'S content behind 500USD paywall. This should've been an event where you play and unlock Faker's Emotes, if you want the skin? Go ahead and spend whatever amount of money you want, but anything FAKER related should NOT be behind a paywall...it's like in the 10 year anniversary, can you imagine if they released a bundle for 500 USD for you to get the annie skin (whatever) and a 10 year emote?
In the past, businesses needed to profit to recuperate production costs, because creating physical copies of products costed a significant amount of money. Now that we live in an era where copying digital code literally costs 0 dollars, why are digital goods MORE expensive than physical goods?
To be fair, there are actually costs associated with digital products in the form of the salaries of the people who spend X hours designing/creating them. Your main point about cost effectiveness of digital vs physical goods is still solid though, physical almost always has a higher overhead cost that needs to be recovered.
I can't wait to perma ban Ahri every game for the next year, not because I'm jealous of people getting the skin, but because if you spend $500 on something that someone can make it impossible for you to use against them that's quite literally the funniest outcome imaginable.
@@tumtum3200 Its a form of protest and I am already banning her because of it. If ppl refund the skin because they can't play it, Riot might rethink this stupid pricing. If not its still okay, but atleast I am voting with my wallet and ban button.
You know it's funny when a sub community like DarkinFolk, the peak of League's degeneracy, memed that a $450 Ahri sex doll is a better investment. This is literally the League of Legends equivalent of "Me or the PS5?" Twitter posts. The skin is priced so high that in some regions that play League, an entire months worth of Minimum Wage income won't even afford it The fact that you can spend ~$500 for this and suddenly get your account restricted or even banned because of the ass backwards handling of toxicity and automated report systems or having your account highjacked and turned into a piece of digital media to be sold illegally for both it's skins and rank is even funnier. That's not even factoring players who are just gonna ban Ahri to spite skin owners. Or Ahri players without the skin impacted by the permaban. Also yeah. The fact it's to immortalize Faker yet is not only under a FOMO chokehold but under an insane price tag is even worse.
Also a bonus point of how stupid it is: There's région were you have limited RP you can buy per mounth by gouvernement restrictions. Now the skin is limited time only. That mean that some can't even buy the RP needed to pay the pack even if they wanted too without using a tierce software 😂
I dont think it would have hurt riot to make an outstanding, great legendary skin, that costs the same as a legendary skin to honour faker. Im pretty sure it would do even better then whatever this is, and maybe you could upgrade the skin with actually hard in-game quests... but i guess i ask for too much. They could have even made an entirely new section in the shop which is dedicated for these skins, where they give a brief rundown on who the player was and why was he so great. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, that is too reasonable isnt it?
ALWAYS remember the moment Riot Games said to never make Elementalist Lux as it was "breaking the game with the VFX". Riot Games were SALTY because they offered "too much" for a low price of 3k RP for a good skin and wanted more money for less work.
I can't see anyone buying this skin simply because of how bad the bullying will be. Anyone who loads in with the skin is going to be flamed and targeted the entire game. It's literally a global taunt. I feel kind of awful for Faker- he dedicated his professional life to this game and is a major contributor to its success, and now he's being associated with such a shameless cash grab. Riot sees Faker as nothing but a golden goose. I understand that to a business, whales make incredibly attractive targets, but this level of disconnect from their players is insane. If they priced the skin at $30 I think at least half their player base would have picked it up. They could have still cashed in on FOMO by making it cheap on release and then raising the price down the line; or only having the skin be available during certain esports seasons. It just makes no sense.

When my friend told me about the faker skins and how the premium ahri was an extra $250 for about $500 total i told him "better get leblanc and ahri blowing me with it for that price"
It's a literal cash grab and anyone who thinks otherwise is a serious threat to those without cash to spend. Corporations so this all the time, release a flashy "new" item that turns out to just be a polished turd, broadcast it as a limited edition regardless of what it's for, then profit. Faker is already immortalized, and if they would've made an emote, recall effect usable on any champion, mastery emote for the champs he plays, and/or even a special "dance/taunt/laugh" key bind to flash something in his name; it wouldve been significantly better. This is CLEARLY a cash grab with extra steps, and it's shameless.
500 USD. In Brazil, it converts to about 2600 BRL. I pay a relative high rent for a 1 dorm house around where I live, here in São Paulo. 2600BRL is about 2 months of my rent. Just to put it into perspective.
I have never seen any of your videos, but seeing this one, I can really see you have a heart and you really understand the thing you are talking about, from the players perspective. Every point you made, including the antiparalel between faker's humbleness & kindness and riot's greedyness and predatory behavior, I 100% agree and your wording is much better than mine. All in all, I love this video, I hope it gets to rioters too, they really need to see this as a reality check.
I feel like someone at riot did the math and it went something like this. If we release this at 500$ 5% of the player base will buy it, and 1% of the player base will quit, and of that 1% most would never spend 500$ on the game. To me it seems riot is cashing out any good favor they have left in the game and just trying to milk it at this point.
What's even more concerning is the hall of legends going forward if every inductee is going to follow these practices. We all know faker is the GOAT and if that is how riot justifies the pricing and people buy it, the future skins of less prominent players will either be sold for less which seems disrespectful by being priced differently or sold for the same price and no one buying them.
I honestly quit league cause of the insane pricing for the skins on Jhin, Ekko, and now Ahri. The only way to get a big corporation like this to realize this is not the way to go is by hurting their wallet and either not buying anything or just straight up boycotting/quitting. I was not a F2P player and spent a around the price of the new ahri skin over multiple years, like from 2017 till 2024, but only for champions I enjoyed playing that came up in the your shop, a few season passes for emotes I wanted, etc. Main point to take away is to either not pay for anything or boycott the game/quit cause of the shit they are pulling.
i've been a ahri main since her release and i predicted this skin would be stupid expensive. The price point is outrageous and the skin itself feels barely an ultimate skin. Riot should learn from games like smite that have announcer packs that you can use and other unique things on characters. Price seems outrageous to the average consumer but i think the point is exclusivity
It's so funny that you mentioned Skyen and showed his take on this because I saw that yesterday and though "hmm, I winder what Rival is gonna say about the skin and how much he agrees with this..." and oh looky, you do agree, as expected.
I wouldn't worry about the timed exclusivity thing. Old event skins like some of the original Halloween ones were timed exclusives, Championship skins like Riven were timed exclusives, Prestige skins were timed exclusives. Riot will use the exact thing you brought up in the video (new players want the skin too so we have to bring it back!) to throw up a big middle finger to the people who bought it due to fomo and timed exclusive marketing to bring it back. It's not just once or twice they've done this so at this point you can expect the same here, it is essentially one of their core marketing strategies at this point. After all gotta get those people who otherwise wouldn't buy an ABSURDLY PRICED SKIN to get it because it's "super duper exclusive!" And then down the line "Oh but think of the new players it's just not fair to them that they couldn't buy the skin at the time just because they didn't play (also that's money on the table and we don't really care about your feelings on the matter.) Here is a scuffed border for the people who bought it during the exclusivity period!"
I feel like normal worlds skins are more "immortalized" than this Ahri skin because you can literally buy them every year or get them through re-rolls. There are some players I have never known because I got interested in professional League of Legends just a couple of years ago, but their achievements are still there for me and others to see.
Everyone just permaban Ahri. We can't stop people from buying this crap, but we can show Riot that this isn't okay by never letting anyone actually play it.
Its not brought up in the video and I'm sure someone on Reddit probably already pointed it out, but can we talk about the fact the bundles literally lock skin features? Even if you buy the 2nd tier bundle, which no one should, the unique emote and structure finisher effects are locked behind the 3rd tier. The 3rd tier doesn't even give you a special chroma for the skin itself, its literally just an extra emote effect and effects for destroying structures and the rest of the bundle is just extra fluff. Riot was hyping this up as a celebration of how far League has come as an E-sport and to celebrate the literal GOAT of E-sports but proceeds to slap fans in the face and use Fakers name for money? This is a tragedy.
I've read reddit posts about unique turret destruction animations & even saw some mock ups made by the community & when asked about it riot straight up said no this will not be added as a feature but what they meant was actually, no that will not be added as a normal feature, instead we will add it as a $500 feature... How disappointing
So don't fucking buy it. God people... Make this behavior unprofitable. Companies care about nothing more than their bottom line. Make it lose them money.

@okCool51 Idk how would they will do the hall of fame in terms of periodicity honestly... But in terms of ppl who might be in the hall of fame... Bengi, the best jungler 3x Worlds winner, if I'm not wrong, he proved with faker the importance of the duo mid-jgl... He is worthy to join as well
The stupidest part of all this is that Riot would have made the same amount of money (or maybe even more) if they sold the skin for the same price as an Ultimate skin (which are already expensive), just based on how many more people would be willing to buy it. They decided to sell fewer skins for more money and have a bad image than gaining the same amount of money through more sales at a lower price and only receive mild complaints
Whats crazy is that Riot would be making bank and look less greedy if they had a community market like Steam's where they took 30% of every transaction and allowed people to buy and resell skins. Instead they'll never do that, keep skins tied to accounts, and then sell us this bullshit
They said they are using 30% of the gross profits from this skinline as incentive for esports teams that contribute the most and faker is also getting some of it. For so long esports many teams aren't profitable, they keep losing sponsors so the only thing riot can do is get money from whales with collectors items. People aren't buying team jerseys or merch, they want skins.
Hall of Legends skins coulda just been Ultimate Skin-tier in pricing, or at minimum Legendary skin-tier. That way, more fans could unlock his skins and pay a tribute to Faker. This isn't about honoring a legend, it's about money.
I remember soke time ago we at the Call of Duty community had an outrage for the Kong Weapon skin, that was given to you when you bought 4 different bundles, for a total of 80 bucks that at least gave you MULTIPLE skins for MULTIPLE weapons and operators, not just some effects for a single character... at almost 6 times the price damn League players have it rough
I have the same take as TB, it's so annoying that this will most likely work and we plebeians will all be stuck with 500 dollar skins in the future. The Lee Sin, Yone and ekko stuff was already annoying but at the very least that would also give you like 50 other skins. I feel like Riot could have easily made it like 80-100 bucks and make it so that you would be rewarded with extra upgrades through the new mastery system, that way you get your money but also give some sort of progress towards a hall of legends skin. So you could see Ahri mains with all the extra effects but no we had to be greedy...
OG celebratory skins like Surprise Party Fidle and Primetime Draven were Legendary skins priced like regular skins (975 RP). Now, we have stuff like the Mythic Chromas and Legend Ahri, which cost more than 10 times the price of Ultimate Skins.
I haven't played League since the start of the year. Uninstalled a few weeks ago when I realised I hadn't touched the game, but I've played since...well Ahri's release basically. The fact that they dare price chromas and reused skin ideas so high is evidence enough for me to say "yup, I jumped ship at the perfect time". Honestly it's depressing to see. I remember the days (probably months worth) of enjoyment I got out of league, not to mention the fact it led me to my partner, but Riot is really now a AAA game studio in my mind - and not in the "high budget" way but in the "share price is everything" way :/
I was so hyped for a Faker skin for my main, like actually hyped... but 500 dollars? like what? do they seriously think the average league player has 500 dollars to spend for a SKIN!? I was prepared to maybe spend 100 MAX. but this is just ridiculous.
i will never understand people like you, are you pretending there isn't a 50 dollar skin and a 250 dollar skin too and that only the 450 dollar version exists? or are you just ignorant. i understand from a video maker perspective its more clickbate to say 500 dollar skin, but you have no reason to eat it up.
riot probably wont do this but imo the best way of "immortalising" faker would just be giving out the ahri skin and including it with every new account so it kind of becomes the new default ahri skin which also references the fact that faker doesnt use skins
I mean... Tencent is Tencent and Riot's no small company either. They'd never skip such a great opportunity to make a huge amount of cash. There's also "exclusivity" (i.e if the skin's too cheap or commonly available, it'll no longer be unique and people are less likely to buy).
I want to add that If Ahri somehow makes it through the draft and the skin is actually picked, we have an unspoken remake pact for someone or everyone to afk so they can't play it still.
The "compaints" about other skins already having some of the features that ahri has are unjustified. The point is that the skin has ALL the effects + the new ones. And yeah maybe other skins will get the tower effect too? so? Like what do you people want from the skin? to have a new gameplay mechanic? The skin itself was never the problem, its graphically more than good enough to commemorate Faker. The only singular problem is the absurd price tag, if the ulltimate bundle was a 75-100 the middle one 40-50 and the cheapest one 15-20 it would've been fine.
Thanks to vanguard i quit this year after 15 years diamond/master player. Riot is a shell of what it used to be this just solidifies me never going back.
If anyone ever shows that skin in my games, I will either perma gank them, or intentionally feed their lane. I will absolutely int my own games on principle.
What I think? If they wanted exclusivity they could make the skin free. Annieversasry and the Arcane skins were free. Then lock it behind a paywall later for new players. Or they could share 30% of the revenue only for Faker and other 30% for e-sports. Riot would still take a solid 40% if that was the case. Hell, I think the correct pricing should be 30 dollars. It would be extremely expensive but understandable, and more people would buy it because of Faker.
Here in Brazil the package is 1399 reais (our currency), the minimum wage is 1.412 so you can get the picture of how bad this shit is. its literally the minimum wage and you get enough money to buy some water so you dont dehydrate

The first package with all the contents is technically 1:1 RP if the pass is included. The second one has far too much air in it, even if you get both skins. You get a legendary one, an ultimate and maybe the pass. That leaves over 20k RP empty. The third one, even with LB and the Chromas, is just air.
Honestly, they should just have a tier pricing that matches the skins. Legendary, Mythic, Ultimate and others. Maybe pipe on an additional fixed price for legacy skins since you see those tags on the skins or even for team skins or championship skins. Personally, I would rather buy an event pass than a skin. It doesn't need to be near where it is now. Another thing they could do if they want to support Faker and the team is give 100% of the proceeds during this event and then drop it to 30% from then on out.

It's probably Tencent telling Riot what to do. I doubt Riot would do all these luxury skins willingly.

-from his incredible skills
-to the many worlds he won
-to his overall personality and sheer determination and passion for lol competitive
These things showed how much Faker truly defied League as a whole.

Beyond disgusting that Riot created such a controversy when it's supposed to be a celebration of Faker. Insane.
For 500 bucks you can buy an entire Ahri cosplay and a Maiden to wear it for you.
The price is insane but to say it's barely an ultimate is just wild. The skin has a ton of shit on it.

The stupidest part of all this is that Riot would have made the same amount of money (or maybe even more) if they sold the skin for the same price as an Ultimate skin (which are already expensive), just based on how many more people would be willing to buy it. They decided to sell fewer skins for more money and have a bad image than gaining the same amount of money through more sales at a lower price and only receive mild complaints
after getting the new tft arena and ezrael chibi i only have 38.5k rp on the pbe
Everyone expected something like the skin to be locked behind battle pass or 3250 rp maybe like 5k cause its hall of fame but god damn 60k...
Hall of Legends skins coulda just been Ultimate Skin-tier in pricing, or at minimum Legendary skin-tier. That way, more fans could unlock his skins and pay a tribute to Faker. This isn't about honoring a legend, it's about money.
I remember soke time ago we at the Call of Duty community had an outrage for the Kong Weapon skin, that was given to you when you bought 4 different bundles, for a total of 80 bucks

Me @ the Seraphine and Samira Ultimate skins: "Perhaps I treated you too harshly"

Here in Brazil the package is 1399 reais (our currency), the minimum wage is 1.412 so you can get the picture of how bad this shit is. its literally the minimum wage and you get enough money to buy some water so you dont dehydrate
well in Russia minimum wage is almost 3 times lower than this bundle costs.
@@LosashExote Jesus fucking Christ, and I thought this shit couldn't get worse
@@delleter14 yeah also don't forget that those skins are different entities in the game, so if you are a "true coping ahri main" you have to spend 60k + 30K + 5k RP if iI digested that situation correctly (I may be wrong though).
I feel like riot have to know that the game is nearing its life span if this is happening, like this feels like a desperate squeeze to get as much as possible before everyone’s pc gets bricked by vanguard
thank you for covering this in such detail. also thank you for the spoon mic.
Imagine you buy one skin that cost 60k Rp on an acc in a game where you are constantly endangered to getting permanently banned. Like so we can boycott this company and the disgusting way they try to get away with things
Good Thing I got rid of this addiction couple of years ago.
"We wont extend the ult form of coven Nami because it will do no good for visual clarity" they said : i mean for a small amount of money we can throw that out of the window
The most expensive bundle should be the price of the least expensive bundle
Love your short breakdown videos of whats happening around the rift.
I wanted to buy this skin until I heard of the price.. Now I suddendly think Coven / Arcanist Ahri arent that bad of an alternative 😂
This all started with $2 horse armor…how naive we were…
It makes me so sad. I’ve been watching him since 2-3 games into his start. The fact that it’s also going away for ever is afterwards hurts even more
Using the legacy and hard work of someone as nice as Faker just to make more and more money...
That's not a commemoration, that's just plain greed.
i only got the 200 dollar jhin one, cause im a huge jhin fan, but i dont think id ever spend that kinda money on a skin again, specially with how all the next oens came out and now this. i agree with that clip that riot is just using faker for making money, the fact that they will lower price and say "oh we heard the feedback" ad well as pushing to see how far they can go.
