  • This is one of the oldest and most traditional festivals in the Canary Islands and all locals and visitors come together to enjoy the celebrations.
During Carnival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, all the streets fill with an explosion of joy, music and colour. During these days of celebration the Carnival Queen Gala is held to select the festival’s main representative from the hundreds of attendees dressed in striking costumes covered with feathers and rhinestones. At the same time, throughout the city there are costume parades, troupes performing music and dances, murgas -groups of friends singing humorous songs- and floats parading at all hours.
The Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been celebrated in the islands since the 16th century, specifically 1574 when a mask and costume ball was organised. This event marked a before and after in this island's history and has been declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest.

Hi Tom, we were also at the carnival filming. When was this recorded? We saw some of those drum bands at the Entierro de Sardine but not all of them were there, we didn't see them at the Cabalgada at all. We were somewhere i nthe area of this video on the Saturday, Parque Santa Catalina

@@tomsandroy Yeah we did. We live in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria but like to visit Las Palmas when something is happening. Starting now is Maspalomas Carnival which had 350K+ attendees last year. We're looking forward to that one 🤩
