This Train Is Bound for Glory or simply This Train (Dis Train) likely originated in the African American gospel tradition, with its powerful metaphor of a train bound for glory symbolizing the journey to heaven and salvation. First recorded by Florida Normal Industrial Institute Quartet in 1924. Sister Rosetta Tharpe 1939 introduced it to a whole new audience and helped make it a staple of the folk music revival of the '60s.

My version started with Woody Guthrie (in fact I thought it was a song he had written when I first heard it) and was then influenced by the recordings of Wood's Famous Blind Jubilee Singers (1925) and Famous Garland Jubilee Singers (1931). Lyrical variations abound and I really could find any that felt right for me so other than first verse and the 'Clean train' version, I wrote my own inspired by the tradition of different lyrics.
