- Why making your own is better than store bought.
Making your own test leads: If you want it done right...... In this video, I show you how I made a set of my own DYI test cables/leads from scratch. As power and precision increases, it becomes necessary to have good cables but. anyone (from beginner to expert) can enjoy having reasonable equipment, if you are willing to spend some time and a little money. Whether powering a Raspberry Pi, Arduino, breadboard or measuring an op-amp; good conduction is an essential part of your electronics lab equipment. The best meter in the word will suffer without good leads, clips, and shielding.
These are, by far, the best I have ever made!

Great showcase of how to do it right, good quality components make all the difference. I've put the 18AWG wire and both connector types on my shopping list. Thanks
Thanks for the comment 👍. Love mine, and they have stood the test of time.
great video - can i use awg 14 cables on banana from mueller? it does say max 18 awg so bit confused
It worked OK for me. I will look at the datasheet again. 😊
Great video. So I am moving from a cheap multimeter to a 34401a benchtop multimeter and it's not coming with any probes. I would buy probes with banana Jack's on them without the safety Shield just to be sure that I have something good, but I would really like to not spend that much. I can zero any probes.
I was looking at 4 feet. Any suggestions?
Nice meter! If measuring voltage, any probe could be used provided the proper voltage rating. If however you are looking for current, the voltage drop though the probe wires can become an issue. The 4 wire resistance does get around this nicely but just keep the limitations in mind. For voltage, I have a set of these (nice and sharp).

But for general use, maybe something like this if you are on a budget.

Hi can you help me In choosing a Bench multimeter in the past and in the future I repair a lot of Xbox one x and other ones and also in the future I want to be able to repair amplifiers AV amplifiers and tube Amplifiers all things like that can you recommend a around good desk top multimeter which is not too dear something around £100 to £300 it would help me so much thanks mark
The Rigol units would fit the bill. A 5 or 5.5 digital is likely more than enough for this work. Keep an eye open on the used market as well. Just be sure that you get something that can be calibrated. Thanks for the question, and I hope this helps.
@@ScottCard can you give me a link to this multimeter benchtop thanks mark
Ouch... those are pricey! I'm sure they're worth it though.
Yes, not cheap, but they have been solid and show no sign of degradation.
cheap alligator clips suck. so hard to open them.
The ones I recommended? Strange, years later, and I am still using mine without issue.
@@ScottCard yeah I’m am looking for new ones. Was looking at pomona and probe master.
Both are good brands.
@@ScottCard which banana to alligator clips did you show in the video and/or recommend these days? Didn't see a link...
@user-tx7hu7of4s The links to the parts I used are in the description. It was a little expensive, but they are still in use today with no issues!
