As usual Ken, you have the best and most interesting shave videos. Thanks for all the work that you put into your videos. I never think that they’re too long.
I wanted to wait to use my Techmatic until I saw your review! I got an original one still in vintage package and one to try out. You are correct, they are between $8 and $25. It's rare but you can still find brand new cartridges. The handles are plentiful, but it's the cartridges that are valuable! Thanks as always for your great videos!! Jim
Hi Ken. I really enjoy your channel as I just switched to DE wet shaving about 6 weeks ago. My brother told me about the experience and I figure I would gift myself over Christmas. I must tell you that I didn’t enjoy it at first and found the whole process difficult to get a half decent shave. I would have to finish up with my old tools after every shave and thought to myself that I wasted all this money on these products. . After many shaves of being patient and learning from the likes of you I am finally getting it and having the best shaves of my life! Just had my first shave without having to touch up with a fusion or electric. For me it’s al about finding the right angle, no pressure and having the confidence to go against the grain with the proper technique and pre shave ritual. Thanks man!
Ken, I'm a 74 year old Vietnam veteran and have only recently returned to shaving with a double-edge razor and so happy that I did. I actually had a Techmatic back when they first came out, but can't remember if I liked it or not. After years of using different Gillette cartridge razors, I turned to an electric razor about four years ago after I retired. Found my old Fusion in a drawer with some new blades and decided to try it out and, after finishing, I just felt so much cleaner and smooth. That was it for the electric shaver. I was going to buy a new Fusion 5, or whatever it's called, until I saw the price of replacement cartridges started looking at safety razors. Read a lot of Amazon reviews and watching yours and others videos and was hooked. Anyway, I settled on a Vikings Blade Chieftain to start with and a packet of sample blades. Haven't gone all in, just using Barbasol(got that from you) and Cremo. Will probably be buying a synthetic brush soon and a new razor, etc. Back to the Techmatic, my new razor brought back the memory of it, but couldn't recall the name until I came across this review strictly by chance and binge-watching your videos. So happy that I had not been just imagining it. I had been telling myson about a Gillette razor that used a band that replaced the blade, but I don't think he quite believed it. So, a big shout-out to you for the video which I will share with him. Now, if I could only get him to replace his Fusion. Sorry for the long story.
I take Blood Thinners and the Doctor tried to tell me I could only use an Electric Razor, but I can't stand Electric Razors so I just quietly continued using a Cartridge Razor.. I just recently started getting into Wet Shaving with Safety Razors and I'm in love with it! I just can not see myself ever going back to a Cartridge Razor and I really really don't ever see myself going back to an Electric Razor after briefly using one after my Doctor recommended it.. I even researched it, found and bought the supposed "Best" close shaving Electric Razor and I still could not ever get a close shave with it.. Love your channel and your vids! Thank you for doing what you do Ken! Your vids are a lot of fun and very informative!
Hi Ken. Super history video of the Gillette razors. I wonder if gillette would advance and review the techmatic with a heat element coil. I know Gillette are experimenting with heat coils in the fusion blades. It would be so easy to adapt the techmatic coil with a heat element. Brilliant video and educational. Chris
Great video. As a 16 year old explorer scout, I was there and saw the Apollo 11 lift off for the moon. And yes, I remember using the razors in your demo. My first shave was with my dads de razor. I remember the tugging. He was probably laughing with the razor set aggressively. Later, I learned to shave around my mouth, when I first grew a beard with a track ll. If you can shave around your mouth with a track ll, you can shave around your mouth (with a beard) with a de razor. Anyway, thanks for the memories Ken. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi from chilly Boston, Ken ! I have used my 1969 Techmatic (which I bought in honor of the Apollo 11 mission) on several occasions. I was lucky, as it was NIB, so I could use it without worry. On the 3 or 4 occasions I have used it, it has always given me a clean, comfortable shave...I never understood why guys hated it so much! I also sometimes shave with my 1972 vintage Trac II when I'm in a hurry. It is also my razor I take when we go camping. I'd rather use my DE & SE razors, but the Trac II is a great cartridge razor... Thanks for the great videos, and stay warm in sunny California ! Rob
The Trac 2 was what I started on, it was my dad's old razor he gave me in 1985, and in 86 I bought the atra wood grain handle. I left it in a hotel in 1989 Wildwood NJ. Went to disposable after that till a few weeks ago
Hi Ken- Very nice shave and razor comparison video; thank you! Nice history of shaving aboard the Apollo 11 mission, as well; very interesting and well done. I hope you have a great weekend ahead and all the best!
Hi Ken. I really enjoy watching you use the discontinued vintage gear. Speaking of, what a shame about Williams being discontinued. Its widely regarded as the slickest shave soap. Hopefully its brought back.
Man I’m on pins and needles on this one ...got my popcorn and ready to rock on your featured clips here.... thanks so much for the history lesson 😀😀😀😀❤️🙏
I was quite impressed after watching this video and have just ordered one of my own off Ebay. Will let you know how it does once it arrives and I've put it through its paces!
Great shave, Ken!, That was a kick to see. The Techmatic was my first razor. I'd started shaving with a Remington electric and skipped DE shaving. Then the Techmatic came along. I know it was good because I never considered switching to a Schick injector, which was the nearest alternative. In 1971 I went to the Trac II, though not on Gillette's claim that the first blade pulled the hair out so the second could slice it off. Instead, I preferred its maneuverability. Also its openness. As you suggest, the Techmatic could grow stuff over the life of 10 blades, which is why I can still recall a preference for the 5 blade cartridges. But I have fond memories of each. In fact I still keep a Trac II in the bathroom. Like your father-in-law, I'm on a blood thinner, so I have an idea what it's like for him. I've stayed with DE shaving, going for an ultra-mild razor. But if I had to switch, it would be to a Trac II. Anyway, I wish him well. Happy Thanksgiving!
Great historical shave. I'm old enough to have had and shaved with both of those razors. Yes, I do use a cartridge razor from time to time when in a time bind. I use mostly my Sensor Excel or Mach 3.
I enjoy this video a lot with JFK speaking and the History on this razor. Thank You. For the information you give out. It is always helpful. You got me into more wet shaving. And I am making my own small area in my room into a shave den. Little by little. I have so far two razors I use 6C from Rockwell at home. At work I have the Rock well 6S for my job. Great razor. Later I get another from another company. Shaves good. Keep making these videos coming. Ken great job as always. 👍🏻👍🏻

Love the history., and you are right some of us use Cartridge blades, I know I do when I shave my head. But for my face I use a DE. Actually I got myself one of the west coast shaving kits, that you made a video on, @kensurfs. I had an el cheapo before but that would open up randomly in mid neck shave and I had the look of someone diving open my throat..
Great video. I love vintage razors. I have an older Shick injector adjustable I use. As well as my Black Beauty birth razor. I have some older straight razors too. But, I do use my more modern DE razors too. I want to pick up one of those Techmatics.
Hi Ken. I am going to be acquiring one of these babies very soon and am looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for a very interesting, entertaining and informative video. Please keep up the good work. I know it takes a lot of time to put these videos together, what with finding film clips and editing etc. All your subscribers really appreciate the effort that you put in. Cheers, mate.
Great video as always Ken! I would watch your videos start to finish if they were an hour long i never find any of your videos boring!! Already looking forward tp your next video!
Maybe I’ve missed you doing this but you should try making a luxury lather by adding 5-7 ish drops of glycerin to your lather and working it in. It makes it more slick and a more luxury shave. You can also leave the mug on a cup warmer and it will keep the creamy lather warm. Makes for a great shave. I think it’s like $6-8 for a decent size bottle of glycerin and will last forever. Give her a shot! I tried it for the first time with Williams soap puck. Made it like a premium soap feel. Gonna try it with Arko next. Found a seller on eBay selling 12 large Arko pucks in bowls for $24.99. Normally they are $6-9 each. Supposed to be the most used cream in the world.
You the MAN! Glad you did this great historic shave. That techmatic looks "rad"! Love watching the evolution of shaving.. Had the same mug w same soap last night with the original boar? brush -- that brush can't whip a lather, sadly. All from my dads time. Gonna use that Musk today. Cheers and and thanks!
Hay ken awesome shave as always me and my friends got in to wet shaving because of your videos An we can never go back to cartilage razors ever again thanks for the great videos an awesome reviews!
Amazing video! Dunno if the Techmatic was ever available in Greece. It sure was before my time though and probably that is why I have never seen it before. If it was so good, I wonder why they discontinued it so fast? Thank you Ken!!!
Awesome history video, Ken. I love all this stuff but can you say to me where I can find the Old Spice mug? I really love it and I would be happy if I can buy one those. Cheers.
Another excellently constructed video, with a great trip down memory lane. I always find it interesting how the 'newest' thing is positioned to be "better" than what had gone before it,suggesting it was actually rubbish 😂
Very cool looking razor. I'd never heard of it before your videos on it. Seems like a James Bond kind of gadget. Thanks for the video and the comparison.
Hey Ken, i have a question, i just got into watching wet shaving videos and i am considering of buying a DE for myself. Do you think that the Merkur 33c, 42c are good options? I have also seen some Parker ones that are cheaper but i don't know whether or not they are of good quality. Your help will be really useful, thanks in advance!!!
I just bought a Gillette Trac II in the case for like $12. I love my DE's but have kinda dabbled in cartridge razors. I have so far tried the Atra Plus and Mach3 and liked the Atra Plus better. How would you compare the Trac II with the Atra Plus?
Great shave Ken.. Nice seeing a razor I've never really seen or someone use it.. good info also! Got a quick question for you other video you said info about the big shave west in Phoenix.. Where are u getting your info? I'd like to attend but haven't seen any info! Have a great weekend Ken
I have the Schick version of that razor. I have it in its original case but it has no name beyond "Schick"(Schick Brand Razor)but there appears to be no blade or wire cutting apparatus in the cartridge which looks very similar to yours. I have been trying to find out the actual model name but have not any luck so far. In any case I was happy to see you take yours for a spin. ;-)
I was an avid user of this particular razor. I managed to revco drugand I even befriended the Gillette sales person that would come in and check the rack and make sure it was filled. She told me they stop making him but she got me as many as she could bless her heart but after that I was told that they were no longer available. Could you tell me how to please get them from France
Ha ha. Sure it works, i have used the Techmatic also, and it is better than the modern crap razors of today. Imo. I have never tryed the trackII. But i have one new in unopend box. Williams is a good soap, the blade band there that you have on is probably from the 70s, since the first blade bands did not have the adjustability. The handle is good and i love the way the Techmatic is shaped. Take care, greetings from Norway.

Found a seller on eBay selling 12 large Arko pucks in bowls for $24.99. Normally they are $6-9 each. Supposed to be the most used cream in the world.
👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this shave. Refreshing to see a review of this particular razor. I have the theme to Moonraker going through my head..
Richard Ayrton lol👍👍
Grand job, Ken! Quality content as always! Greetings from Northern Ireland!
dioni82 greetings to Ireland👍👍💈
Great video Ken. Really enjoy seeing the vintage razors.
Luke Bauer Thank you👍💈
Great video, Professor Surfs 👍👍✌👌 Gonna get my shave-on tomorrow morning.
RICK MACCHIO 👍👍👍
You the MAN! Glad you did this great historic shave. That techmatic looks "rad"! Love watching the evolution of shaving.. Had the same mug w same soap last night with the original boar? brush -- that brush can't whip a lather, sadly. All from my dads time. Gonna use that Musk today. Cheers and and thanks!
talega1 Thank you👍💈
Thanks for sharing the video, Ken.
I'm good with my DE razors. Cheers!
The Spectre 👍👍
😂 I was a kid when that commercial came out!!

Interesting you mentioned Mike Collins and he passed away today. American Hero. RIP
Great shave Ken. I love getting your honest opinions on shave products.
Warren Burch Thank you again Warren👍👍💈
Great video ken!!!! I have been waiting for a review on this razor!! Band razors are pretty rare to find.
rob f. Thank you Rob👍👍
Amazing video! Dunno if the Techmatic was ever available in Greece. It sure was before my time though and probably that is why I have never seen it before. If it was so good, I wonder why they discontinued it so fast? Thank you Ken!!!
polpan1973 Thank you👍💈
I live in Greece and I have one. Unused
What is your favorite razor and blade combination? And what is your favorite shave soap to use? I use the Williams brand shave soap.
rigby mordecai Right now it’s Muhle R41 with Gillette Wilkinson Sword Blade, and Taylor of old bond street grapefruit soap
@@kensurfs thanks!
Awesome history video, Ken. I love all this stuff but can you say to me where I can find the Old Spice mug? I really love it and I would be happy if I can buy one those.
Cheers.
AGV Rider 👍👍
I hotbed mine off eBay
@@kensurfs I'll look into it. Thanks.
Cool shave Ken! Speaking of cartridge and plastic razors.. Have you tried the Challenger from global shave club?
Jacob Jensen I have one coming👍💈
Another excellently constructed video, with a great trip down memory lane. I always find it interesting how the 'newest' thing is positioned to be "better" than what had gone before it,suggesting it was actually rubbish 😂
koosk very true👍💈
Great shave Ken there was also a new techmatic razor in 1970s
Joy Ghosh 👍👍
Have you ever used the schick injector? My grandpa uses one to this day, he told me he’s had the same one for 40 years.
Andrew Pope I have many times. I have a few videos on them, great razors 👍💈
I’m fairly new to your channel, definitely enjoying your videos, I’ve binge watched quite a few!
Very cool looking razor. I'd never heard of it before your videos on it. Seems like a James Bond kind of gadget.
Thanks for the video and the comparison.
The SaskShaver Thank you👍💈
Awesome retro shave. Surprised the Williams held its lather for you 😊😊. Shave on buddy ....................

Glenn Helley 👍👍
Fascinating from a historical development perspective, nice bit of research 👍
John Flynn 👍👍
Hi Ken, very interesting razor, can you still buy the replacement techmatic blades in France?
Its funny how some of these old razors look so modern and look allot better than the new ones.
Mr Tony Thanks Tony👍💈
Are the blades for these hard to come by? I found about 5-6 of them and the razors at an area antique store...
Was that puck of Williams vintage or new stock? I can't believe how good of a lather you got from that.
Richard McDonald I’ve had the puck for a while👍💈
Hey Ken, i have a question, i just got into watching wet shaving videos and i am considering of buying a DE for myself. Do you think that the Merkur 33c, 42c are good options? I have also seen some Parker ones that are cheaper but i don't know whether or not they are of good quality. Your help will be really useful, thanks in advance!!!
Nihilistic Existentialist to be honest I have not tried those, but if they are similar to the 34C you will have a winner👍💈
@@kensurfs Is Merkur let's say a more reputable company than Parker?
Nihilistic Existentialist I believe both are reputable 👍💈I have more Merkur razors though
It'd be nice to see that amazing razor in the rotation. Maybe trying different settings, it's crazy to think that it's a band doing the work.
Fabian Escobar Santander I was very happy with this shave👍💈
That razor really is a curio. Fantastic stuff Ken, thank you
billiam taylor 👍👍
I just bought a Gillette Trac II in the case for like $12. I love my DE's but have kinda dabbled in cartridge razors. I have so far tried the Atra Plus and Mach3 and liked the Atra Plus better. How would you compare the Trac II with the Atra Plus?
Both are great but the Astra Plus hugs the face better in my opinion
@@kensurfs I agree! I just tried the Trac II the other day and it wasn't as smooth as the Atra. Still a smooth shave just not as smooth
First time I’ve wanted to buy a Techmatic! Great video Ken as always!
The Shaving Tulsan I was really surprised
Wow Ken, what an awesome shave! 💈🙌🏼😯🙌🏼💈
SoCal Shave Thank you👍💈
Great shave Ken.. Nice seeing a razor I've never really seen or someone use it.. good info also! Got a quick question for you other video you said info about the big shave west in Phoenix.. Where are u getting your info? I'd like to attend but haven't seen any info! Have a great weekend Ken

Awesome video! Love the line:"Techmatic... Son of a bitch! It works!
Neal Gray Thanks Neal. How was your first wetshave today?👍💈
Wow!!! Nice history lesson, thanks for sharing.
Borys Hawrysz Thank you👍💈
Great job Kensurfs! No blood!!!!! How was the tech Matic compare to the muhle?
Safety Nic it was surprisingly smooth👍💈
@@kensurfs very cool! I wish Gillette would wise up and mass produce the good stuff instead of only cartridges lol take care and shave on brother!!!!!
In any case I was happy to see you take yours for a spin. ;-)

WolfRanger2008 I just bought two off eBay
@@kensurfs Thank you very much!
I think I started shavings with the Gillette Trac II or the one that came right after it.
David Coleman The Atra👍👍
Thanks for the use of Williams! Cool to see the newer vintage stuff.
How do you like the Williams?
ordinaryshaver very good soap as usual with Williams👍👍
@@kensurfs was it the vintage or modern Williams?
Thank you and have have a great day

Hani Shamseddeen Lol 👍💈
Hani Shamseddeen how do you think captain Picard kept his head so BBS?? Lol
Great video as always very interesting shave . Like seeing the history of Gillette 👍
Stephen Smoot 👍👍
You gonna have to do a shave with the Techmatic only now!
Stephen Gooch I just bought 2 Schick band razors off eBay
I was an avid user of this particular razor. I managed to revco drugand I even befriended the Gillette sales person that would come in and check the rack and make sure it was filled. She told me they stop making him but she got me as many as she could bless her heart but after that I was told that they were no longer available. Could you tell me how to please get them from France
I would suggest eBay
You don't bore people at all Ken. I watch even if I feel like killing myself. Just kidding. I love your Vids.
Thanks for making such an effort.
Shave&Butcher Thank you👍💈
That reaction was PRICELESS!
Gnomeo Shaves Lol 👍💈
Cool shave love the history of my youth!
TShull Vintage Shaver 👍👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, thank you!
Slyder28 Thank you👍💈
I don't have Barbacide… would pure rubbing alcohol work to clean your razors?
Rob B I think the 90% would. I used to soak them overnight in that, then run through the dishwasher. At least that’s what I did
@@kensurfs thanks for the tip!
That's why Matpat, owner of Game Theory brand and consultation for UA-camrs says to keep your vids around 10-15 min max.
Gigaheart I agree and I shoot for that usually👍💈
