This was another project from Chris Savory (Swap Heroes) that I
had the pleasure of working on. At first we were toying around with
the idea of another SNES sounding soundtrack, with games like
Super Mario RPG as some of the benchmarks. But quickly we
realized that the game needed a much more subtle touch. The goal
was to write music that did not take too much focus from the
gameplay. Match three games don't necessarily benefit from a
manic thrill ride for a soundtrack.
Instead We wanted the player to always feel involved in the game,
so extra care was made to not write with any grand crescendos in
mind, but still have the song be moving from new section to new
section. An interesting challenge. This was the sound we
eventually landed on.
