My favorite book of all time is definitely The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, from The Hunger Games series. In close second is the novella from The Assassins Blade called The Assassin and the Desert.
Believe me when I say you will never reach a finite list, as I have been reading for over 50 years! Keep reading there is always another great book waiting to be discovered.
I love The Infernal Devices! I’m currently doing another re-read of them. Some of my all time favorites are Frankenstein, Pride and Prejudice, Tithe, Valiant and Ironsides. I know Holly Black’s earlier books weren’t your favorites, lol, but I’m 35, and her books got me through some very tough times as a teenager. 😊
so glad to hear you also love the infernal devices!! you also have so many other great picks! the modern faerie tales series definitely isn't my favorite, but i'm glad to hear that they were there for you as a teen!!
Half a soul is also one of my favorites!! I read it back in 2022 and adored it. Anything by Hannah whitten, St Gibson, Ava reid, Brandon Sanderson and Allison Saft are my faves
I love your videos and recommendations! I started reading yona of the dawn because of your channel and I love it, It got me slightly more into manga too and half a soul is one of my favourite books!
So many good ones here (especially Emily Wilde 😍) and so many on my TBR!! I just started Way of Kings last week and am really enjoying it so far and am also planning to start reading Half a Soul today 😊🎉
Thank you for this video! I agree with you, I loved The Starless Sea, the Night Circus, Half a Soul and Emily Wilde's (haven't read the second book yet). Since you love Halloween I would def recommend Nettle & Bone (one of my top faves). It's a dark fairytale by T. Kingfisher, there's a possessed chicken, a goblin market, dancing teeth, and a bone dog, among other bonkers things. The writing style is atmospheric, dark, comical, heartbreaking (and warming) and whimsical:)
oh wow! nettle and bone has been on my radar for a while but your description has absolutely sold me on picking it up this fall!! so thank you for that!!
I am so excited about your reaction to the infernal devices because I JUST got all of the books through my library, so I'm reading them for the first time soon! (Anyone else driven crazy by trying to line up library book holds when it's a series? I have to read series books back to back so I don't forget any details, and it can be such a pain. But I persevered!)
oh you are in for a TREAT my friend!! the infernal devices is so SO good i hope you absolutely adore your time reading it!! (also trying to read complete series from the library also drives my crazy!! i feel like it's impossible to get them back to back, so i feel your pain!)
i LOVE yona so much, and you're so right the romance is chefs kiss. what's happening in the manga in the latest chapters is making my heart break!! (in a good way? i guess?) also half a soul is definitely further up on my tbr now :)
The author of the Ex Hex has another book coming out in that world called the Wedding Witch! I'm saving it for Christmas, since it seems more like a holiday book 🎄 📚
Such a great video and enjoyed reading The Infernal Devices so so much. I am 2 books away from finishing The Mortal Instrument series where my adventure of reading books again started. My favorite books of all time would have to be the first book of Harry Potter and the Sorcere's Stone (I was given this book as a present from my grandparents and just fell in love with fantasy), Shadow Falls series (it's a paranormal story but in a summer camp setting), Kiki's Delivery Service, Matilda (it made me realize as a child I was not alone with loving to read), and my favorite graphic novel series is Fruits Basket surprising enough considering it is a slow read but I just adore the characters it picks up after a few volumes. Happy reading! I just realized I don't have many standalone favorites so I will have to search for more.
a new favourite that i discovered this year is the locked tomb series, with gideon the ninth as the first book. it's a very character driven series so i think you should like it! i cannot wait for alecto the ninth to release sometime in 2024 (or sometime during our lifetime)
oh i have heard so many great things about that series!! it does absolutely sound amazing, i definitely need to pick it up at some point! so glad to hear you love it so much!!
Our tastes really align. My favourite books are: The starless sea, Emily Wilde's encyclopedia of faeries, the invisible life of Addie Larue and the once upon a broken heart series.
My absolute favorite #1 reads are basically every book by Tamora Pierce. I started reading her in 2000, 2001 and I have been re-reading them every year since then. Her "Circle of Magic" series is a great exploration of found family with an interesting magic system, and the Tortall series has a ton of great female heroines, different romances, and great worldbuilding. Other favorites include the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede, Cemetary Boys by Aiden Thomas, An Old Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott, Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, The Forbidden Game trilogy by L.J. Smith, and of course Nancy Drew (the Nancy Drew Mysteries and the Nancy Drew Files, in particular). I have more, but I'd have to write an essay if I added them XD
Heartstopper is definitely one of my all time favorites 😍 I've read it...7 times! Now I want to read it again even though I already read it this year lol
My favourite books are The Scorpio Races, The Darkest Minds trilogy, I Am Number Four series, and the Maze Runner series 😁 Also adding most of these to my tbr, cuz although i am relatively new to fantasy, what i have read so far, I've loved!
My all-time favorite book would probably be The False Prince by Jennifer Nielsen. It doesn't have much romance, but if you're looking for a book/ book series with amazing plot twists, this is a great book for that. ❤
My fav are : Anne of Green gables, The starless sea, The Hobbit, Madame Bovary, Caraval, Cruel prince, The house of the cerulean sea, Harry Potter of course, Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland …
The books you recommend are my favorites too💗 there is a book that is not very popular but I like it very much. It's called Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang. If you haven't read it, you definitely should!! I think you will like it💖
Hi Katie, so I've been debating this for a while but now I'm pretty sure I should tell you, because I've seen that you're in the look for books that are like the starless sea. I've read a book called "the never-ending story" by Michael Ende and it's very similar to the starless sea: about a boy that goes into a library and starts reading this book about another world and at some point the story in the book starts mixing with the events in his real life. I don't remember much more about it because I've read it a very long time ago, but I think you should definitely give it a try :D
ooh there's a movie based on the book right?? i've always heard about it but never knew exactly what it was about, but that sounds amazing!! i will definitely be adding that to my never ending "list of books i need to acquire" haha!! so thank you for the rec!
23:38 Okay okay. I LOVE the Emily Wilde books. I love her. I love Wendell. I have read both books.. and I am just so STUCK on him bringing a girl to the cottage in the first book even though he swears he’s been into Emily since they met… like why? Does that not bother anyone else? I just… i dont know. I still love them but that grinds my gears 👀
I'm dying to know what you think of Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese! 🪡Gave me the same feeling you felt about The Starless Sea. Some other favorites: Dracula, The Shadow of the Wind (another book I think you'd love), Dracul, Starling House, The Invisible Hour, Oathrbringer, and On Writing.
i own that book actually!! now i'm definitely going to have to check it out!! all of your favs are so interesting! i love dracula and starling house as well, but i will definitely have to check out some of the others that i haven't read yet!
The Ex Hex SLAPS. I will fight. I finished it in less than 12 hours xD I can't wait to read the second one. Edit: One of my favourite series of all time is an adult vampire series by Freda Warrington, the Taste of Blood Wine. It's phenomenal and so beautifully written.

😂😂
i was literally wondering that the other day👀 because i feel like it definitely was!!
The Starless Sea is so beautiful, such a great book ❤
yes!! it's just so beautiful!!
My favorite book of all time is definitely The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, from The Hunger Games series. In close second is the novella from The Assassins Blade called The Assassin and the Desert.
My favourite books are Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and Heartless by Marissa Meyer. They both made me cry my heart out and I love them dearly.

Yess 😭💗
Infernal devices!!! I'll so in love with that series and need a reread!
Stormlight and Emily Wilde are also on my favorites list. I haven't read Half a Soul yet but I have a feeling it could be a new fav as well ❤
Some of mine would have to be Fablehaven & Dragonwatch, the Hatmakers series, Land of Stories, and One Piece
So glad to see so many of my favorites on here too!
Thanks Katie for such a treat🫢💞
