Warm Audio! Doesn't make sense spending 3,500 bucks for a Teletronix when you're getting damn near the same quality. Not every La2a acts the same anyway, so the Warm could just be considered as one that acts a "different way". Just my opinion... The Warm Sounds Great Though. You just have to push it a notch harder. Big deal, just drive it a notch harder. Better than a damn plugin' THAT'S FOR SURE!
100% I’ve been so impressed with the WA business model. Seems like they basically use the same schematics and high quality components and seem to be okay with less of a mark up. I’m saving up for the was237-EQ now.
I own the Wa 73, Wa 76, WA47, Wa 87, and next week I’ll be ordering the WA 2a and Eqp WA. I can’t waait. Thanks for the comparison guys. It is much appreciated.
@@jossuecastaneda8135 or you could maybe make a blogpost or something and link it here, would mean a lot really. I'm trying to get my hands on some analog gear for the first time ever. Trying to get opinions from well experienced people around. Thanks man!!!
The Teletronix definitely sounds better wider stereo field more in your face but the warm held its own considering the price difference I will definitely be buying me the warm.
The warm sounds great dont get me wrong, but the Teletronix sounds much better to my ear. The depth and midrange detail really shine on the Teletronix. Listen again but focus on the "depth", then focus on the the detail and midrange of the singers. The warm sounds like vocals through a speaker; the Teletronix's vocal sound like they are standing in front of you. Too bad the UA version is highway robbery. Kudos to Warm for this kind of value for sure!
There is a honkiness (say 1000k) range that I hear with the warm unit - could be a compression artifact; whereas, the LA2A "sits" better and the compression sounds more natural when pushed. More of a roll-off on the highs perhaps with the original unit. I hear a difference, and that difference could be a bear to eq out after the compression signal. You all should shoot out a Stam SA2A (which I own and love).
I can't believe I actually like WA better!! But it sounds like it has different settings on emphasis filter, doesn't matter though, the unit is amazing!
Well, actually suprised that even in my not expensive samsung headphones I hear big difference on every source. Plus it's actually obvious the WA behaves totally different if you look at peak reduction knob vs gain reduction meter. WA of course sounds great too in it's own way, but don't act like it sounds the same
@@ZenMountain You’ve caught the error in your usage and made an effort to point out a slip in wording, choosing 'you're' as the correct contraction. Thank you for being an excellent UA-cam teacher your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Guys if you could talk about the emphasis knob in the back and how it can effect the sound, it would be really appreciated. Thanks for the video. WA 2A rocks!
Let the big studio’s buy the $4600 unit…if your mix is good, recorded tracks are good and your song is interesting the difference mostly won’t be noticed by the average music consumer. I just bought one..nice unit very nice. I have a few more units to get for my project studio…Neumann km184, WA -8000, Tegeler Eqp, RND newton
A blind test would have eliminated all the "high-end" snobbery as a factor in these comments. The WA-2A is clearly the winner -- so close in performance AND wins hands down in the affordability test.
You can really hear the diff between the transformers in the respective units but they do sound closely related. Is the teletronix using the ha100x, the A25, or something else. Cinemags are keeping up pretty well.
I think the Wa eq is a amazing eq (smooth highs, and nice full low end, adds a great color,,,,, using the wa eq into the wa76 then feeding that into the Wa2a, is one amazing signal path.. Wa does rock!
there is a huge difference in the higher range... the teletronix just makes any sound smoother and more "fitting" ... in a way... maybe the warm needs some darker sounding output transformers...?
I have done it, and it actually sounded amazing, it can be a huge help for recordings started and finished in the digital realm, it definitely alters the mix by adding a huge amount of warmth, but it's definitely useful on very digital recordings.
Tonstudio Metzingen we were looking to make them react similar. Not really match the meters. But turn the knobs to match the volume and perceived compression based on listening.
WA isn't as heavy handed as Tele. That being said I'm more inclined to go with Tele on this one. I need to know that a leveling amplifier will do just that, sometimes I don't want everything to still "breath". On the other hand, WA is a good alternative for when you want things to breathe. So, my advice to everyone is buy 3 of each and Bus away!
We were adjusting the two sounds, to sound similar as far as the compression is concerned, if you listen to each as I go back and forth we were letting people hear how the compressor controls the sound, we were more concerned on how the unit acts on the source, Some times we had to push the teletronix harder, to get it to act like the Warm. The meters on both units acted very different, and it was by our best decision, a chance to use our ears and get them to act same on the source or sound similar. At the end of the video, we flipped the phase on the same instrument, and matched it. It matched up very close. I wanted to let people see what they should expect while turning the knobs in the studio. How it reacts, as much as how it sounds while it's in use.
Hi Doug just want to get you opinion. I have my old mbox 3 pro and I'm looking for a better interface. The ones I'm looking at is the Apollo 8 new black face one, Lynx Aroura the new blue face, motu 828es, and the Antelope Orion studio rev 2017. Now here is the deal I'm really not worried about the plugins that come with the Apollo or antelope Orion studio rev 2017. I want to know which interface has the best sound going in recording and best sound coming out when mixing. They all have the right ins/outs for my outboard gear and digital mixer. Just want to get your opinion on this. Thanks bro! Basically which one has the better converters inside.
I would say the Antelope orion sounds amazing, but the Lynx aurora is unbelievable too. those are the best sounding. The apollo gives you a lot of bang for the buck though. If I had to choose, I would say Antelope Orion or Lynx. both top shelf
Thanks bro! One more thing. I'm really looking at getting the Antelope Orion Studio rev 2017 interface. Just want to know I see it has usb on it. How is the latency and how many plugins like say if i want to use there plugins to mix with. how many can i use before hearing latency. And I also see on there website it says I can connect it via usb and thunderbolt/usb-c. Will this work on my mac pro mid 2010 using my usb-c pcie card form Sonnet tech. Here is the link for the pcie card in my mac pro 2010. www.sonnettech.com/product/allegro-usbc-pcie.html
If you want good reliable drivers and an interface that doesn't regularly need to be reset with horrible customer service...than you'll want to go with Lynx. The quality is good all around.
No match. The teletronix kills that crappy knockoff, the real one sounds fuller and smoother, the other sounds thin in comparison and can’t handle large amounts of gain reduction like the real one. LA2a=👑
Wow. Prefer the WA unit on guitars, the Teltronix is preferred on nearly everything else. The WA units seem to always be more saturated than other brands.
YES, above 500Hz they can compare, but not below. The TELETRONIX on the bottom end is just transients in your face (warm one actually hehe) and mass all around, good juicy mass, melting just perfectly. But lets be realistic and true for a minute, WARM audio makes great stuff, no doubt about it, but the TELE sounds like an ANALOG unit. That real analog sound that someone CANNOT reach with plugins. WARM audio, on the other hand, sounds like an analog unit that someone CAN reach with plugins. There are no massive, enorme differences at the end of the day, and you can use both in the studio proudly, but they "vibe" differently! conclusion: I like the WARM Audio, but the TELETRONIX is so .... so musical, and again... so so musical that it is ridiculous. The damn thing has a musical life. ....and thanx for this video, really cool shootout guys!
If you listen with ‘which one sounds like a record’, the TELE wins out each time. I’m surprised Warm didn’t capture the presence of the original. Think I’d choose Audioscape personally. But I guess we don’t know what Warm’s Teletronix unit sounded like

Maybe it’s douchey but when I see warm gear over the real thing it just seems.....lame. Also this warm audio version sounds more brittle and nasally. Doesn’t have that “warm” enhancement
Thank you so much for sharing. The units were so close for such different prices. I love it.
the warm audio stuff is fantastic, even high end pro studios are getting this stuff
People will prefer whichever's unit's output is the loudest 99 out of 100 times. Level set/match the clips for accurate test

wouldnt it be a more honest comparison if we were matching the gain reduction?
Nonetheless, Cool Vid! Thumbss up from me
Great vid fellas, and awesome response to the their utility!!!
Universal Audio LA-2A has that thing your looking for but the Warm Audio is close
The bass shows the real difference. Not even close. The "Warm" isn't warm, which is what is so magical about the LA2A.
You are, You're. Not your. Your is the possessive man.

The more you turn it counter clock wise the more it compresses the highs so the lows aren't triggering the compressor as much.
WARM has more lowmids, not sure if I like that , not as stealth as Teletronix. But nothing you can't fix with slight EQ
Great comparison thank you!

Teletronix sounded a lot better to my ears. More natural. Really dug the Warm in your 1176 video tho
Thanks!
The LA2A sounds more expensive as it really costs. But for the price difference WA2A is very good.
Thanks Doug, you guys are really informational, educational, and most of all inspirational, Thank you guys.
Thanks for watching man. We hope to continue making great videos comparing great products
U need to have both pieces of hardware with the same settings. To correctly compare.👀

Hey Doug, I picked up two of the Warm Audio Eq's, now i'm waiting on my WA-2a to go with them and the wa76
Great vid thanks!
Any rule of thumb about how much signal/gain to send into these?
there is a huge difference in the higher range... the teletronix just makes any sound smoother and more "fitting" ... in a way...
maybe the warm needs some darker sounding output transformers...?
Sheesh. Very helpfull. Thanksalot
Warm audio is good only T4BLA OPTO CELL MORE QUALITY
ever since I got the audioscape opto my warm been collecting dust

No Filler Words Productions He's setting them so that the meters match. You have to push the Wa2a a little harder to achieve the same meter action
I could hear some slight loss of low end with the warm audio but is was sooo slight. You will need to boost some lows to get it back with an eq
Har Megiddo , maybe use the pre emphasis
the original sounds warmer to me
Itd be cool if you just didn’t adjust the gain compensation for the sake of volume fetish ! Maybe it’s just me though !
