- Climbing mountains in the Catskills I was able to locate many large bucks during bow season, fast forward 3 weeks and they seemed to have vanished, but as luck was on my side I was able to solo film my rifle hunt and connect with a great public land buck.

Thats awesome!!! I was so uncomfortable walking in there in full Tiger stripe camo and wool pants, but quickly she made me comfortable being a hunter in NJ and in that nice place. That looks like a spine shot
He would have dropped on the spot it was a double lung shot look at the shoulder for the blood spot and how it hunched after the shot and ran

Every hunter knows how it is when coming to a decision on if you want to take a certain animal. All comes down to personal preference (and legality) but I think we can all agree, once you have your mind set on taking an animal there's no going back and no place for regrets. Once that deer is down you can't help but be happy about it. There will always be a bigger one and maybe there are others who would rather eat their tags than shoot a non-trophy deer. Me on the other hand, I'm out there tagging does with my buck tags (it is legal here) because of the point regulations while also drooling over all the bucks I can't shoot. Still mad about that big old 5pt w/o brow tines, wider than it's ears, that came in picture perfect broad side and just stood there. Possibly even more mad about the big 8pt that showed up gun season opening day and just stood there with a doe but I didn't dare shoot because I wasn't sure he had 4 on one side, that is until he was running away through the woods onto the neighboring property and then BANG! I seriously hate having to count points.
