just got a yanmar L100AE because these things are fun. got it started but it was stuck in full throttle! the clowns installed the injector pump wrong. the pump throttle was not mated with governor fork! it was a simple fix 😆
Just bought 3 of these, & they all have the same issue. Got one to barely run, but life you said the carbon is probably keeping them from sealing up completely.
The work for the cylinders your looking for is not glazing it's called cross hatching. Glazing is bad it's what happens to a worn cylinder with lots of use.
Glazing can happen on diesel engine very easily , if the engine is not working hard then the cylinder will glaze . Usually a couple days of 80% load will cure it
Just watched your video on this I appreciate the little tips and tricks that you're sharing here I was wondering if an L90 Yanmar could be bored out to an l100 thanks
Hello. Nice videos you post. I have a Yanmar L100AE in a Mase generator. Valve and valve seats are ground, but it will not start without starting gas. Does not need much starting gas to start. The cause of the problem is salt water that came in via the diesel tank. Could it be the piston springs that are broken? Or a lot of rust on it? The cylinder walls are fine. No scratches or worn cylinder walls. There is a new nozzle on it, and I have checked the diesel pump, and it works ok. Unfortunately I do not have a compression meter for it, so I have not been able to check the comprresion. Going on holiday, so all tips are most welcome. Thanks in advance from Norway.
I cant say got it used and changed oil and adjusted the valves cleaned air filter.its pushing oil out the seals now so its retired.i did scrounge the injection pump off it and its on my Titan generator now.
Big question, 3TN66 JD332, low comp so removed the head and changed HG, new valve seals, lapped valves and cleaned it up. Put back together and no compression at all. I can turn by hand. I set the valve clearance and when apart the cyl bore looked perfect. It has about 2k hours.
i just bought a 10 hp diesel generator like the 3 you have. the guy said it started running slower and slower till it quit. any ideas why? do i have to remove the generator head for a complete overhaul? where is the best place to buy parts? thanks for all your time and info!
Hello please can u help me. I have a yanmar ke-4. After 15-20 mins the engine stops and it comes little bit more white smoke from the exhaust as normal.
I have a yanmar ydg5500e and it started blowing oil from the governor linkage seal. Is it safe to assume there's excess pressure in the crankcase or would I be fine just replacing the oil seal? If the problem continues, is most likely the rings?
It’s probably the rings. There shouldn’t be that much pressure in the crankcase. If you take the oil cap off, & see a pulsing then your rings are shot.
The original scoring on the liners is called the hone marks. Glazing is what happens to the liners when hot combustion gases blow past the now poorly sealing piston rings and creates a glaze on the cylinder bore & increased oil consumption.
very interesting Video.. I´m the proud owner of a 5 kW DieselGenSet ( 418 cm³ Motor) . Question: Is it possible to use plantoil ( NOT RME or Biodiesel! ) instead of diesel?
Hey dude, we bought an excavator with a single cylinder diesel engine. The oil was too low and didn't have a cutout switch connected. Now we can't get compression. Any ideas? I'm guessing piston rings or valves, but Idk what kind of damage low oil might have done to it. The bastard only has 9 hours.
William Manche check the valves first!! These engines are super tolerant just like an old 7.3 and cummins engine is. Also check other simple things like the engine head torque etc. can also take the injector out and pour a mix of acetone and marvel mystery oil to see if it’s just a seized piston ring or two! After all that, if there is still no compression, then a rebuild is most likely needed
@@zippyzappyz 1 cylinder. Where you connect the fuel line inlet coming from the tank. I can hear sucking air. And a bubble rising fron the pump back to the filter. It's a new pump. The old one did the same.
@@tes997 sounds to me there is defenitely an air gap, have you cracked open the top fuel injector line to purge the air out? Should be a 17 or 19mm hex
Using paint thinner to check for leaking valves works well. It's thinner than water.
its called crosshatch, its purpose is to retain oil on the cylinder wall.

a fuel line on the valve stem and drill it slowly
Very useful info, thank you for posting.

try pouring acetone, and automatic transmission fluid into the cylinder and see if it only leaks through the rings into the crank
You want to see honing..not glazing..honing is GOOD ..GLAZING is BAD FYI
Hey there I just thought that I'd mention that I've got a little etq diesel generator with 8500 hours on the meter.
thats amazing! Any secrets to doing that?

Great video keep it going👍👍👍
More on these type of engines =D
Any advice on removing a flywheel on an L100? Bolt removed easily but can't remove the flywheel from the crankshaft!?
what are the torque specs for the head?

check to see if the fuel is priming correctly! could be just a loose injector line!
@@zippyzappyz thanks!
if the compression is poor, can the engine start easily? (Yanmar 1gm10)

I am looking for a Yanmar Diesel Generator?
How does the rocker arms get oil ?
"Screen my fog up" 😂 love it!
very nice video, thanks for sharing. What do you use to test for compression on these L series engines?
I just go by feel! Ive never needed to compression test one

what compression test adapter do you use ?
sb 8 yanmar.....injector is approx. 28.5 mm dia.
Man where do you get your parts from I can’t find a generator crankshaft for a L100 anywhere
ebay!

I'm working on one. I noticed there is tiny BUBBLE coming from the pump to the filter any ideas?
Pump to the filter? How many cylinders is it? Sounds to me like you need to crack open the injectors and bleed the air out

Any idea what the compression psi on a 186fa would be? Mines at 280psi.

What engine is in the Deere?
10hp 186f diesel!
hone marks buddy.
