I know it's a tall order for someone who isn't very close to the franchise, but I'd have loved to hear you talk more about how the Grizz defensively overhauled their roster. I think you understated it: adding Temple, Slo Mo, and JJJ gives immediate switchable value to this team at a time when the name of the game is positionless basketball. I expect opponents to struggle quite a bit against this lengthy roster.

Smaller market teams don't have the luxury of rebuilding like the Lakers, Knicks, etc. The entire flow of money to that organization is their "Grit and Grind" mentality and that is exactly the model that their front office went for. At the end of the day, the Grit and Grind mold got them to the conference finals as well.

The Grizzlies actually made the right choice drafting Jaren Jackson Jr. If healthy, he's a candidate for DPOY as the perfect complement for Ja Morant. Bye bye Chris Wallace because he got demoted at season's end as well as Mike Conley and Marc Gasol which officially ended the Grit 'n Grind era.

I honestly don’t see Memphis going to the playoffs even if Conley and Gasol stay healthy for the most part. Warriors, Rockets, Thunder, Lakers, Jazz are all locks in my opinion. Then you have the Pelicans, Nuggets, Blazers, Timberwolves, I cant see why you would give them a big shot.
I mostly give them a shot for two reasons. 1) the Blazers, Nuggets, and Timberwolves are in the same division (along with the Thunder). Something is going to give there (lets be honest it’s most likely the Timberbulls). 2) I don’t know if NOLA has the roster to compete in the Southwest considering every team has someone that can match up with AD and Holliday pretty well.
I’m not saying that it’s super likely, but with how difficult the West is, especially in those divisions, injuries happen. And unlike last year, the Grizzlies picked up depth at every position to be able to withstand any short term injuries, unlike last year

Here's why they are going for a playoff this year because if they tank yes they keep their pick but in 2020 it goes to top 5 pertected and 2021 it's to Boston no matter what so if they go 41-41 and get 10 seed in the West that's what 13thpick they can give that up for 1 year so they can guarantee picks later when Gasol and Conley leave

MEM is one of the worse markets in the league either they draft someone or they get lucky and a guy like Devin Booker requests a trade with 4 years left on his contract otherwise ain't nobody lining up to play in Tennessee..
Tanking is one of the worse thing you can do as an owner since your billion dollar investment reduces its value drastically without a guarantee that it goes up (Orlando, Sacramento, Phoenix I'm looking at your bum asses) or that you ever get back to the same level of relevancy.

The Grizz need to start over clear out Conley, Parsons, and Gasol sell the team to some billionaire in Seattle and rebuild other wise there's rumors the Clippers could move to Seattle then the Grizz would miss out.

If I were the Grizzlies GM I would:
1) Trade Mike Conley for Reggie Jackson and 2 1st(2021 and 2024)/1 1st(2021) and 2nd (does it matter) round picks
2) Trade Marc Gasol for Jonas Valicuas (I don't think that would get done, but then again the Raptors seem to be all in on this year) or Jakob Poeltl, Pau Gasol's contract and a 1st in 2021
3) Trade Kyle Anderson and Ivan Rabb for Marcus Smart
4) enjoy the salary cap bliss
5) Realize I have to pay Reggie Jackson 18 mill and Pau Gasol 16 mil for 2 years and have to Pay Chandler Parsons a max deal for a year and break down in tears
6) Tank
7) Buy out Reggie Jackson and Pau Gasol's contract at the end of the season
8) Draft either Zion Willamson or Keldon Johnson
9) Throw Max Deals at Klay, DeAngelo Russell, Porzingas, DeAndre Jordan, Kemba Walker, Boogie Cousins and hope one of them sticks
10) Overpay on 2-year deals for Nikola Vucevic or Tyreke Evans or Bojan Bogdanovic or Rajon Rondo or Markieff Morris or Nikola Mirotic or Marcus Morris or Willie Cauley-Stein or Michael Beasley or Brook Lopez
*What I mean by overpaying them is paying about 5 million over their market value
*I'm going to assume the best realistic case scenario we get Zion Willamson, Nikola Mirotic, A Morris Twin, Michael Beasley, Rondo, Boogie and Kemba
11) Current team in 2020:
PG: Kemba
SG: Zion Willamson
SF: Jaren Jackson
PF: Nikola Mirotic
C: Boogie
Bench: A Morris Twin, Michael Beasley, Rondo, Jakob Poeltl
This would obviously put them in championship contention.
This scenario is highly unlikely but plausible and is significantly better than doing nothing
