It would only make sense for a hero to have a super skimpy outfit, like Red Sonja’s, if they’re invincible and their costume gets destroyed regularly. ☺️
And since, historically, young, horny boys have been the primary target audience for comic books, unlike today, where it is now middle-aged, horny men. 😂🤣
Who CARES if the bikini armor can protect her in a fight? This is a fictional character in a fictional story. Conan NEVER had any armor on his torso. I didn't see anyone saying "how did he protect his body in a fight?". It's a representation of a fictional character. Their creator want them to look like that. Red Sonia is SEXY in that bikini. It's iconic. It's perfect!!
@@kajenbop Same, get me in a super cold environment or a super hot one, I don't care, I can outlast other people easily. But the sweat on clothes, I hate the feeling of sweat on clothes.
#1: In fairness to Red Sonja, what she wore in her premiere comic appearance, Song Of Red Sonja, by Roy Thomas and Barry Smith was the more practical chain mail shirt. I don't think it went chain mail bikini until Smith left the comics.
This series of videos can go on and on. The 90s gave us so many cheesy outfits to make fun of. So many pouches. And if you are going to bring up Sonja, you can’t forget about Vampirella’s cheesecake outfit. Lol
Starfire's outfit was ridiculous, but in contrast I think Red Sonja's makes sense not because of any in-story reason, but just because that's the kind of character she is. 100% badass. Fantasy armour doesn't need to make sense. Starfire's just didn't fit her character, powers be damned. In fact, the whole story doesn't fit her character.
Ehh it depends tbh. If they're going up against enemies who literally cannot harm then, then they could really wear anything. Hell, if you don't need the protection, an argument for wearing less can be made as it extends your range of motion.
To be honest, if I had Superman-level powers, I'd totally just go for t-shirt, jeans and running shoes. It's just comfy and practical, and hey, I can tank pretty much anything on Earth, so don't care much about armor.
To elaborate on this, it also depends on the character. Someone who's effectively untouchable would not need armor for protection. However reasons such as intimidation, boosting of attributes in the case of magical armor or power armor, or even just aesthetics do exist.
@@Biotear Indeed. I, personally, would still go for the aforementioned t-shirt, jeans and running shoes anyway because there's also a solid value in being underestimated, which I'd love to go for even if I had all the power in the world.
Yeah, Sue Richards' sexy suit (which I greatly appreciated as a young boy 😁) was basically Malice's custom revamped in F4 colors. It made since that she donned this outfit after merging with her evil, ultra ego in the infinity wars, as it is a merger of Malice's custom with the Invisible Woman's custom.
I didn't see part 1, but, if you didn't put her in it, Vamparella's costume was pretty useless. I mean... her chest was exposed, and makes a big target for a stake to the heart!
Red Sonjas' chain mail is a taunt to her enemies. Saying you can't touch me in anyway at all , as she slays them with her mastery and skill with the sword.
Yeah. Shame about how many small cuts she has in some of the pictures though. At least she wears something under it in some of the images. See way too many bikimail pictures with no underclothes. Ouch.
I'm gonna defend that Dr. Strange look. Maybe it's not the right look for "Dr. Strange", but the tight suit, robe, & long hair are hot. That Superman look though.... He looks more like Serious Sam. Hate the super short hair most of all.
With regards to Starfire, having a SOLAR powered alien showing lots of skin doesn't seem odd to me. In fact, it would make a lot of sense if Superman and Supergirl did the same thing.
A costume has to be practical and realistic, for someone who is super flexible they need a streamline outfit. Or if they are a complete badass then to hell with it lol
Red Sonya chainmail bikini, less weight than full armor, full range of movement and faster movement speed. It's all about speed and dexterity over armor durability.
Okay, so, Red Sonja's outfit isn't any more ridicules than seeing camo bikinis at the beach. It's about style, not function. She knows that she's sexy; and she wants to flaunt it!
It's magic that holds Women's armor together and in place otherwise X we might need a couple more x's added to that one, and Sue's outfit was her just being unhappy in her marriage and becoming a Cougar🤣🤔🤐Ok I'll be quiet Continue please Thanks for video
as a fun fact, martian manhunter and superman share that same trait. they disguise themselves to look like they see humans. I can understand that the costume of invisible woman was in theme. any decent woman would prefer to be invisible than being seen like that. the anime black cat feels strange but, most anime female characters tend to be like that and the rest of the characters also adopted a similar drawing style. I don't see it as a different costume but more as an adaptation to anime of the classic black cat costume. no comments on superman wearing jeans. WTF!!!? what will be next? batman in a metalic gold color?
I always thought the Spectre's outfit was funny. He wears a hooded cape, underwear, gloves and elf shoes. The rest of his body is bare. Something a pro wrestler would wear.
Even funnier is that Jim Corrigan was shown sewing it himself in More Fun Comics #53. Unlike most Golden Age superheroes, his origin was not only the first story, but it took two issues to tell it, and he didn't even appear in superhero form until the second part, aside from the introductory panel.
First, I recall a story about Red Sonja, that seems to be an early version, and it's nothing like the one I've known all my life. It was described as sort of... remember Kate Beckinsale in "Van Helsing"? Kind of like that; white, long sleeved white blouse full of (what I just googled are called) frills, baggy pants, pirate boots, the red hair and stuff like that. But in a way, I was thinking just yesterday, it makes sense. She's invincible, and in fact that's her 'motivation': she will only belong with the man that can beat her, thus she doesn't need armor! It's confidence, its rebelry, taunting... "you can look, but you can't have...". As for New 52 Starfire... I'll just say what I always say when it comes to Titans and New 52: It was OFFENSIVE.
People getting mad when someone is critiquing an absurdly barely existing attire is kind of funny. Just don’t ever criticize Powergirl. It is very empowering for women to have a fictional female have her clothes stolen mid shower by a teenage boy. Did she forget she’s Kryptonian? Lol! Even CW Supergirl would do better and she was ditzy for three seasons!
Starfire wears a stripper outfit. Holding it on, particularly durinf fights, is clearly a minor superpower in itself. Star Sapphire: comparable stripper suit *but* clearly ring-generated. The notion that any characters with those figures and faces are not sexy in, say, body stockings is weird.
Starfire and tge rest of her race get tgeir power from solar radiation. Red Sonja has said at times she wears the outfit she does to distract her oppenent.
I like a sexy costume, but if there's no plausible way it could stay on even during normal activity (let alone superhero athletics), it's distracting. I end up focusing on "How the h--- is that thing still on?" rather than the story.
Superhero costumes are not supposed to practical, logical or realistic. They’re supposed to be grab your attention and be visually enticing. None of these costumes seem “dumb” or “ridiculous” so much as “not to your tastes.” “Undressed her (Starfire) for no reason.” Do you not understand who comic books are for? Red Sonja isn’t wearing chainmail. She’s wearing a ring or scaled bikini because it’s sexy and fewer people would have bought a Red Sonja comic had she donned a hauberk of mail. It’s a fantasy. It’s not supposed to be accurate to the real world. Also, Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Miles Morales is Miles Morales.
Chain mail is not just for protecting one's vital organs but also there asset's. I guess her assets and vital organs are one and the same in that universe. Bikini briefs anyone?
8:17 it may just be me being a lover of edgy characters and character designs, but I think they should've kept the hair from this design and just changed the costume
lol or we could remember that these comics are based in fantasy and are not meant to "make sense" they are to fulfill imagination, excitement and fantasy- good thing they make many comics for everyone so people do not have to change comics other people like....👍👍

Sue Storm’s suit is like her power is Invisibility so might as well her suit too? 👀🤭
Marvel Knights Fantastic Four , or MK4 volume 1 issue 21
Sue Storm is one of the hottest women in comics
She did an "invisible swimsuit" in the Marvel Swimsuit edition where she made herself invisible in the shape of a one-piece suit.

They don't use medieval armor as a base for the costumes unfortunately.

Sue has the suit because men drew her character - period.
There's no news there. Men have been drawing the character since the 60s, so, where is the justification in that?

Red Sonjas' chain mail is a taunt to her enemies. Saying you can't touch me in anyway at all , as she slays them with her mastery and skill with the sword.

So am i the only one who thinks superman t-shirt and jeans would be perfect for connor kent
Miles hoodie gives me Miles version of ben Riley Scarlet Spider look just isn't done so well, but i think it's ok.
I love Amanda McKnight’s super hero suits. (Just hope they aren’t made by children or they are super villain suits”
Yeah, The Invisible Woman's costume was out of character for her, but wasn't that the point?
There's costumes, then there's uniforms.
Female heroes wear costumes (er, swimsuits). Male heroes wear uniforms. There's your distinction.

superman jeans and t i thought was awesome, supes powers done come from his outfit , so no we really couldn't be superman lol
