Brilliant channel. Love the compositions and the simple format of chords as subtitles while listening to a single playthrough with the original vocals is perfect. It means you can keep coming back to the video even when you know the song well, and just play along.
@@PoutinePete what don't you understand?! Are you special? He downloaded the vocal track from the original song as a 16-bit WAV, and is playing guitar to the track as a guitar lesson. It's really not difficult to understand! 😂

I have not played my guitar for many many years, until recently. Love these lessons, and this one is exactly what I look for, simple. I believe it took me about 30 minutes to learn this. Now, trying to remember all the lyrics might take a lifetime!
idk if it's simple hahah maybe for you cuz you played guitar years ago... chords are pretty simple but the changing tempo is not that easy for the beginners :P

well gotta say, after finding your play along two days ago, i started practicing yesterday morning and at the end of today I can play chorus verse and back to chorus without too many issues, thanks a lot for this video!
The idea of your way of showing chord charts gets an 'A' for effort but the way you're jumping from one chart to another with no preview or prompt got to be more of a hinderance than a help for me. I'm sure it's perfect for others. Just some kind of hint which chord is next a second ahead would have made all the difference. Still, thanks for putting this out.
Thank you for doing a tutorial on this song which uses all of the correct chords. There are SO many on YT which claim to but do not (they often misrepresent the Em to D/A section as Em to Am). Nice work!
Bro you are awesome putting this together, you don't how much I appreciate it one of my fav songs from back in the days still rocks, I love how you created the video with the chords playing a long , I was totally able to play it THANK YOU! for your work, much appreciation from Los Angeles 👍😎💥💥
I've just started learning. I'm starting to find transitions easier between chords that share strings like from Em to Am to C, but find it much more difficult switching between C and G etc. I've no idea how you do it so quickly and without looking. I have a whole new respect for guitar players and musicians in general after picking up my poor dusty acoustic and saying 'it's time to learn'!! Loving practising though. Hopefully will master this soon and thanks for your channel!
I know your comment is four months old but in case this helps anybody else. Transitions from chords like G to C will come with time. It feels uncomfortable at first but soon enough you will be able to swap between them smoothly. The thing that makes these chord transitions hard is that your ring finger and index finger are going to completely different places, making it a complete brain twister. Instead of trying to think of each chord as one-note at a time, try to think of it as a shape that your fingers make, this will ensure that you're not laying down one finger at a time (super slow), and instead just making the shape. Finally, to practice finger flexibility, there is an exercise that I saw somewhere that helped me a lot. Put all of your fingers on the middle G string, spanning across roughly the 6-9th fret (can be moved up or down if you need more or less of a stretch). Then, take your index finger only, and while keeping the rest pressed on the G string, move it from the bottom e string to the top e string without lifting up your other fingers, this is like a finger pushup. After this repeat, this step with your middle, then your ring, etc. while keeping the other fingers pressed down. With time you will gain the finger strength and flexibility nessecary to reach harder chords down the line.

Oh it's super simple man. About as simple as a song can really get and still be a masterpiece. ha. Eventually you'll learn all these chords by heart anyways. Learn the basics of music theory, full steps and half steps and how they relate to the strings and thus how chords are derived from their roots. It'll make A LOT more sense why a G is a G and why you're going down from 3rd to 2nd fret and now it's an F# (half step between them, thus one fret) etc. I'd also HIGHLY advice listening to Elliott Smith and looking at some of his tabs. The master of chords and chord progression. No one tops him, in my experience. Got to learn to play with fingers to play Elliott Smith though, no picks work as you have to carry bass line notes (The root of the chords) with your thumb.

It wasn't me. I found a "vocal only" track on the web and it was cut out. I'd guess this is because many of the vocal only tracks are from something like these "sing star" games and they are extra kid friendly.

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music
Used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
So, bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
And them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die"
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Now, do you believe in rock 'n' roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym

With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck

Singin', "This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die"
Now, for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
A quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that I die

Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now, the halftime air was sweet perfume
While sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed

Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So, come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the Devil's only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die"
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry

that was great ,thankyou for all the videos you do.
Perfect lesson, thank you.
👏👏👏 Great job! This will be my next song to learn in my acoustic guitar.
Fantastic
anyone knows why "whiskey" is censored in the vocal track?
Hi, I didn't do it. That was in the vocals only version I found on the web. My guess is, that it is from a game like "SingStar" and they edited it family friendly.
@@hitsonacousticguitar oh thanks for the clarity
I believe this stem is from Band Hero, it has “whiskey” censored, which does kind of suck but you win some you lose some
@@ryananderson9668 especially when they left in the word “rye” which is just another form of whiskey. 🤷🏻♂️ iconic song for sure though.
does anyone knows strumming pattern???
Well played indeed, thumb up

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
Did you write the book of love, and do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Now do you believe in rock and roll, can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died
Now for ten years we've been on our own, and moss grows fat on a rollin' stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen in a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
A quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
Helter skelter in a summer swelter, the birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass, the players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the halftime air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
Oh, and there we were all in one place, a generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
I met a girl who sang the blues, and I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
Thank you so much! This is one of my favourite songs
beautiful
Great cover.
Excellent. Thank you.
Awesome...no other word👍
Effortless
So this is my favorite song of all time. And thought that it would be a great idea to pick up my guitar and learn it. Boy, was I right. There aren't any difficult chords. They're all chords I already knew. The transitions is what I need to work on. Welp. Practice makes perfect
Update: I can successfully play it all the way thru. All 8 mins
@@DamagedFn-ct9rr congrats man
Many thanks brother
Beatifull
If you listen really close, sounds like the word "whiskey" is deleted.
Either way it's probably the 2nd most difficult song to memorize the lyrics behind Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere".
Very good song but so hard to sing for frenchie .The words are so fast for me ! but the chords are very nice to play!
Very helpful, thanks!
Amazing, great job man.
Excellent ty
That was amazing thank you
ur crazy, this is so hard to play. Beautiful!
wow no pense que fuera mas dificil de lo que pensaba
Wonder of execution, watching from Brazil.
Why censor whisky?
Awesome
Great Tutorial! I love this so much!! What kind of guitar are you playing? Looks like a Taylor for sure looking at the electronic pickup tone controls and the wing ebony bridge. I love the tone and intonation this guitar produces, would you be willing to share with us what kind of guitar it is? Take a peak inside the sound hole for us? Thanks a million for the wonderful videos!!! I have learned so much from you!

hey, could you share the strumming pattern for the chorus?
Show! 👏👏👏👏
Christ, thats hard! And I WILL play it right!
where did you get the vocals from?
Hello!!! I wanted to ask what guitar you used for this! I'm buying my second one and I love the sound of this one
Hi, it's a Taylor.
Very well played
Just when i try to play along its hard cause the chords aren't in order

Anyway i could see the strumming pattern for this?
I’m watching open range with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall, I think this song has more words than the whole movie. Catchy tune, but if a man has 9000 words a day, it’s like 4 days worth of words .
love this, may i ask the strumming pattern?
Yeah
@@nyuhnerysmexecutioner7963 i dont really know if it's right but i tried my best: (first part obviously all down) from 1:02:
DD D DUDUDU UDU
DDUDDUDUDU UDU
and the chord progression D-Dsus2-Dsus4 its just DDUDUDUDUDUDUDU
thats 1 hell of a cover song wow thats all ii can say

Beautiful song. I was a bit confused with the lyrics
perfect
cool,👍
I really want to sing this but I'm having trouble memorizing the lyrics🤯
Can anyone help us? I can't pick up when he does an up stroke?
1:16 is the word whiskey against UA-cam rules now?
No, it was cut out in the original version of this vocal track. Think it might be from a game like Singstar
Wow i follow you , i like that , thanks , God is proud of you 😇🙏🙏🏾💯💝🎶🎶👍🌹 Staysafe and strong , continu to share the love of God with your music and your energy , Amen 😇🙏🙏🏾🎸🎶🎶🌎☀️
Nice pro video 👍🏻 although what’s up with the word ‘whisky’ throughout 🤔
Magic, durr, know enough now to see what's goin on
is that a MX-50 in the background
What is that?
What's the strumming for the chorus?

So by by miss American pie
Why did you block out the word 'whiskey' haha.
It wasn't me. I found a "vocal only" track on the web and it was cut out. I'd guess this is because many of the vocal only tracks are from something like these "sing star" games and they are extra kid friendly.
Put chords on the lyrics please
If you can play this, you shall be the campfire legend
Why didn't you sing the word 'whisky'?
Hi, it's actually not singing me, but the original vocal track by Don McLean. I found this as it it on the web. I'd guess it's from some "sing star" style game and they didn't want kids sing "whisky" (?).
@@hitsonacousticguitar and yet he sings 'rye'. Strange.
what is the strum?
I know that this wont be really helpful but it could help you in the future so try to listen and watch his hand and improvise and in the future you wont need ask
I can’t work out the strumming structure
Did you realise it is almost the same chords as Foo Fighters times like these acoustic version
Ritmo?
