I've seen a couple videos of these old heads, and honestly the little I've heard is better than 99% of the mainstream rap I've heard for a few years

I've listened to rap and hip hop all my life and I have to say this is probably one of the most confusing but impressive things I've ever seen. They're so damn good but with their age and where they're from throws me for a loop every time.

I think what some people dont realise is that a lot of their flows are borrowing from or hark back to a reggae/dancehall/island sound and i think thats why parts of their songs can sound so familiar or just get you up dancing before you even know it.

I love how you guys break it down. IMO one of the musical things about drill style is the kicks and high pitch repetition here and there. Like for a techno it’s boom tis boom tis boom tis boom tis but with drill it’s boom boom tiss tiss tiss boom tiss tiss boom tiss ti ti ti tiss ti boom tiss boom ti ti ti ti ti ti tiss boom boom. It’s like the repetition of high hats and kick would almost make the beat sound off if not for the instrumental melody in the background, and it makes the rapper bend his flow around the beat. It kind of reminds me of a “twisted” form of breakbeats, and seems to open many unique and unexpected possibilities for flows.. I❤it great reaction

You talk about "Is this drill or is it not" Whats the diff between drill and gangster rap? All the drill guys today are just talking about the same things as old school gangster rappers back in the day like Wu Tang or NWA.
I gotta make a whole video about this tbh because the answer is, "it depends." Drill isn't just about conTENT; it's conTEXT. On one hand, Drill has its own culture that is very specific to modern gang violence, but on the other hand it's a very specific sound. The lines between what it is and what it isn't are so blurry that they really is no one answer.
