I wanted to play this at my sister's wedding. She's a Labyrinth fan - and I had the idea that on that day we'd have masquerade masks hidden about the place. On cue, everyone would don their masks, leaving everybody but her and her beloved anonymous, wherein they could dance; and even as the world falls down she would have someone to be there for her - nobody else would matter but those two on that special, special day. I don't think, now, that I'll live to see the day, but I hope to take the thought of it with me.
_Labyrinth_ was such a fantastic movie. I mean, it's pretty hard to go wrong when your movie is the lovechild of Jim Henson, George Lucas, and David Bowie. The soundtrack is also great. Some of my favorites other than this one include "Magic Dance" and "Chilly Down"
The woman in the video is supposed to be an adult Sarah. 2:53 The door randomly opens and Hoggle and The Goblin King turn quickly, wondering “could it be Sarah?”, and when Hoggle checks and doesn’t see anything, THE DISAPPOINTMENT IN BOWIE’S FACE RIGHT THEN.
And if you look really closely at 3:16, you can see Sarah walking down the path away from the house. (This landscape painting is shown earlier at 2:35, with Bowie/Jareth's face forming the house). It must be Jareth and Hoggle's location. So I think Sarah really is there when the door flies open, but she must have run away when the door opened and headed back down the path...

David Bowie, hands down, one of the most talented and influential artists to have ever lived. I never felt such a deep connection to anyone like I have him. Such a beautiful soul that left us too soon. Every time I hear this song I tear up. To me, it is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The day he died, a part of me also died. It's in reference to the movie "Labyrinth". Jareth ( David Bowie, AKA the Goblin King in the film) is pretty much expecting to see Sarah again after the events in the film. Sarah (the girl, she's played by Jennifer Conelly in the film. I don't know who plays her in the music video) is older and presumably working an office job. Jareth has powers in the film so I assume he's trying to subtly use his photos to lure Sarah back to him. It's not clear if she remembers everything that happened to her when she was 15 but she seemingly has an urge to find Jareth (it's implied that he was in love with Sarah). Sarah, however, never goes back to Jarethl and thus, both Hoggle (the dwarf) and Jareth are disappointed that no one is there.
After being a huge labyrinth fan all my life I can’t believe I only found this video recently. Lovely to see Bowie’s dedication to the labyrinth narrative and his goblin king character, as he could have just done a standard music video that wasn’t even about the film. It’s like the sequel we all wanted!! Years later after leaving the labyrinth Jareth takes human form to try and win Sarah back in the real world but with the help of hoggle, except she’s forgotten about the labyrinth 😭♥️
There's a manga sequel known as Return to Labyrinth and a comic prequel known as Labyrinth Coronation. Though, some elements and events in each may canonically contradict each other as well as the film.
I like this song, makes me remember Labyrinth movie, but it always makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. I think Bowie wanted it to be like that, like a bittersweet song
This song is deep...it has a deeper meaning outside the movie but also in mirror of Jareth's love for Sarah. I could write a paper on this song on how one's individual love centers itself for a specific true love. The sacrifice to obtain the gift that you love, but in the end letting it go, if she chooses another path. That's real love! damn!
I opened an unread Facebook message from a friend that passed away 6 years ago and they had recommend this song. I’m so happy I finally opened it and may you RIP

The music video features a mix of clips from the film, specially shot footage that shows David Bowie (who seems to be playing a version of his character from the film, Jareth) performing the song and clips a young woman (French actress Charlotte Valandrey) - who appears to be an older version of Sarah - in an office. The music video begins by showing an older Sarah relaxing in an office as a photocopier prints multiple images of Jareth's face. Meanwhile, Jareth is seen performing the track in an elegant room with Hoggle as his sole companion. A portrait of Sarah hangs on the wall. At one point the portrait crashes to the ground, prompting Jareth and Hoggle to look to the door as they falsely believe there is someone on the other side. The doorway is empty, and Jareth is seen staring ahead grimly upon realizing no one was there. Both Sarah and Jareth appear to want to go to the other, although neither of them are willing to take the first step. All credits go to labyrinth wiki, I don’t own this explanation.

Got a chance to see Labyrinth in theaters with my girlfriend who hadn't ever seen the film. One of my favorite moments from last year. Absolutely love this song too
I remember in high school I had to stay at my ex girlfriends house with her cause she was sick and I showed her the movie for the first time. Beautiful memories man.
I like to think that in this video, Jareth came to the human world, became a famous musician hoping to be with her and she’s thinking, “Funny, I’ve seen that face before…”
Oh I hope they never do a remake..This needs to just stay as it is. Beautiful and bittersweet. There will never be another Bowie and there is no way any one can justify doing a remake.
This song was playing on my list when I drove home from the hospital when my daughter was born. It took new meaning to me. It now means that as her father, I watch her go through life. Falling in love, possibly get hurt, grow, fall in love again. The one thing that will always be constant is my support for her. I will watch her grow into a wonderful person, and if she needs anything at all she only needs to ask. Thank you David, she requests to hear this song every once and awhile. You truly are a hero. Rest in peace.
Isn’t that what we do when we pine and think upon a special person...making copy after copy of the original memory of them, a special memory of a special event with them? Would it not be better to have the real event in front of us? She’s doing this not to be hurt, to reflect as well. Lyrics say as such, sort of.
One of the heaviest losses ever. David was such a prolific singer and songwriter, influencing music to this very day, even after he‘s long gone. Rest in peace, Goblin King!
What a song. I went to the cinema as a kid and saw the movie originally back in 1986. Just magic and a great childhood memory. Bowie was a true genius.
The Goblin King's side gig, away from the castle. Seriously though, Bowie's voice was always so distinctive to me. It feels good to see this and reflect back on better days. Thks for posting.
This video is a testament to David's artistic sensibilities and the fact that many of his songs are hopeful romanticism, but also as someone mentioned below, often tinged with a bittersweet melancholy. Clearly, he knew and loved dramatic portrayals.
I remember slow dancing in your room. No music was playing, it was just you and I. But this song was playing in the back of my mind. I loved you with everything in me. I hope you are finally at peace. Rest well, M.R.C. My amazing fiancé. 09/25/89 - 01/20/22.
Oh, my God. This post is as beautifully evocative as it is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope you're faring better these days in the face of that loss. ❤
@jaerivus thank you, they always say "It's better to have loved and lost..." And I've come to terms with that. The pain is still there, but the love is too. And that's the most beautiful thing.
Here's a little theory I thought of: The music video for Underground was kind of how Jareth got into the Labyrinth, he started out as friends with Hoggle but then they had a falling out. The movie happened and at the end, Jareth would watch over Sarah in his owl form. And then we get to this video and it's just Hoggle and Jareth waiting for Sarah and Sarah misses everything from the Labyrinth and wants to go back but for some reason she doesn't. Jareth and Hoggle are just anticipating her arrival. This probably isnt what it entails at all but its a fun little theory I came up with.
I see this as her subconscious telling her to grow up and mature to take care of her brother while her parents enjoy their dancing and little free time. Probably my favorite scene do to the meaning and overall song it’s just perfect and amazing.
This song- gosh it’s just perfection, I can’t explain how it makes me feel…when I first saw Labyrinth I loved the movie and David Bowie in it, when the ballroom scene came, I had my jaw dropped in admiration, this song makes my stomach drop, I feel butterflies every time I listen to it, this has never ever happened to me before with any song, I just adore it, no matter in what form or instrument. Since I listened to it, I stated the following: “When I get married, this will be my first dance song, and that’s decided”…I really want my future wedding to be Labyrinth themed, I hope I can get a partner that loves it as much as I do, and if not, I’ll stick with just the song. 🫶🏻
This is the most beautiful love song ever. In my honest opinion, of course. Thank you, David. Rest in peace. From Russia with love, from now and till the world falls down
I'm 44 now, and I was a child when this was released and loved it. Then when I was in my early 20s, I shared these films with my children, one was a boy and my younger was my Lil daddy's girl, and we'd put this movie on just to dance to this song together. Usually danced to all of these songs, but this ws our song, and I miss those Lil eyes looking up at me, with her feet on mine, dancing with her papa. Thank you David for giving is this amazing soundtrack.

My daughter, who is now 9, adores the movie, fancies very much the Gobling king and loves this song so much, that she uses it as a lullaby almost every night!
This song was the first time I had heard a fretless bass guitar, and I never forgot what a beautiful pillowy sound it had. I didn't actually learn what it was for years, and was so happy when I finally discovered what it was called.
If you don’t get the video then if you’ve watched labyrinth this shows that they both had feelings for each other and Jareth wanted Sarah to come back to him. At 2:53 the door opens and Jarrett and hoggle wanted it to be Sarah but it wasn’t so they are both sad ☹️

I remember when I first saw this film, I was in catholic school and it was a Friday . I was really young, I think it was like “86” or early “87”. Life was much more happier and simple. I had my grandma, friends and all the kool-aid I wanted, fast forward to today and I am reminiscing about THAT era that I miss so much 😥😥😥😥😥😥
I was 17 when the labyrinth soundtrack was released. I'm a hardcore Bowie fan, and even if his 80's works are the weakest part of his career, I however recall these songs with much pleasure..
Walter Bianco let’s dance and modern love and ashes to ashes are very good works all done by Bowie in the 80’s, to me it’s late 80’s early 90’s Bowie that’s pretty bad, that Fucking techno album is unlistenable
This song and film touch my heart like no other..know every song off heart...it's sad if you think about the film and actually realise what it was about...two people who desire each other but can't have each other! I love this film it will always be my favrote hate that hes gone!

Greetings from Germany
😊
I miss David Bowie, his lovely voice❤❤❤
me too
Is this what Jareth thinks Sarah is doing every day when she gets home? Making endless photocopies of his face?
LOL well, it's Jareth. He's such an entitled, goblin.
Maybe she is
Isn’t that what we do when we pine and think upon a special person...making copy after copy of the original memory of them, a special memory of a special event with them? Would it not be better to have the real event in front of us?
She’s doing this not to be hurt, to reflect as well. Lyrics say as such, sort of.
I mean her room is full of his merch so who knows
That’s what I would be doing and then sticking them all over my room
RIP
DAVID BOWIE

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Only David Bowie could do it. How empty the world is of music now that he is gone. You are missed David.
Indeed absolutely amazing song
One of the heaviest losses ever. David was such a prolific singer and songwriter, influencing music to this very day, even after he‘s long gone. Rest in peace, Goblin King!
What a song. I went to the cinema as a kid and saw the movie originally back in 1986. Just magic and a great childhood memory. Bowie was a true genius.
The Goblin King's side gig, away from the castle. Seriously though, Bowie's voice was always so distinctive to me. It feels good to see this and reflect back on better days. Thks for posting.
I am 12 years old. When I was 8 my parents let me see Labyrinth. From that time is my favourite film. R.I.p. David Bowie✨❤
Awww ♥️♥️ I was 8 when I saw it too.. I'm 32 now.
17 now hope you still enjoy it

DAVID BOWIE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
Played this at my wedding. 10/10, best some ever
I really want to do this one day seems just so magical
This video is a testament to David's artistic sensibilities and the fact that many of his songs are hopeful romanticism, but also as someone mentioned below, often tinged with a bittersweet melancholy. Clearly, he knew and loved dramatic portrayals.

David Bowie As The World 🌎 Falls Down 1986
"i'll be there for you, as the world falls down" is a pretty apt description for life since Jan 2016
My little girl dreams are made of this. They still remain 😂❤ Bowie was so beautiful
I feel like the world fell down after Bowie died….it’s never been the same since ✨👼🏼
Anyone else watching in 2019? Massive David Bowie fan here!😍

Here's a little theory I thought of:
The music video for Underground was kind of how Jareth got into the Labyrinth, he started out as friends with Hoggle but then they had a falling out.
This probably isnt what it entails at all but its a fun little theory I came up with.
blueauroracos oo i like it!
Valeu
Love it
So you’re saying this could be showing Jareth’s origin story?

I'm Still Here.
The Labyrinth brought me here. Childhood movie. Thank you Labyrinth. Thank you David Bowie.
Bowie was so beautiful 😍❤️
I agree 😍😍He's so handsome here 😍😍😍😭😭😭
I see this as her subconscious telling her to grow up and mature to take care of her brother while her parents enjoy their dancing and little free time. Probably my favorite scene do to the meaning and overall song it’s just perfect and amazing.
This song would be a perfect song for anyone's wedding day...
Same this song is literally perfect
Estou com 69 anos de idade ( graças a Deus) mas esta música, permanece pra sempre em meu coração.

David Bowie
He was my first movie star crush. This film and this song is so dear to my heart. RIP gorgeous David
I loved tc in worst witch. too bad they never made a remake with Bowie as the grand wizard
Same, girl, same 😍
I grew up loving labyrinth and David Bowie, this song will always hold a special place in my soul.

David Bowie is a Great Artist He will Never give up on you.
My daughter, who is now 9, adores the movie, fancies very much the Gobling king and loves this song so much, that she uses it as a lullaby almost every night!
Beautiful❤😭😭😭
R. I. P. 💔💔💔💔
I ain't never loved a song so much.. I miss David
Let's just agree that the Jareth makeup was the best makeup David Bowie have ever had.
For me, this is one the ten most beautiful songs ever.
Only tears fall down with this song 😢
Me sentía mal emocionalmente y aparece esta canción mágicamente. Ahhh gracias, Bowie por haber existido ❤🌠
This song was the first time I had heard a fretless bass guitar, and I never forgot what a beautiful pillowy sound it had. I didn't actually learn what it was for years, and was so happy when I finally discovered what it was called.
And that, my friends, is why I fell in love with David Bowie so many years ago. {Big sigh, a tear}
Can we all just have a collective Ahhhhhh- this song is everything - brings back so many memories! We miss you Starman!
当時、劇場で聞いてからずっと好きだったこの曲。
まさかこんな公式MVがあったとは。。。
If you don’t get the video then if you’ve watched labyrinth this shows that they both had feelings for each other and Jareth wanted Sarah to come back to him. At 2:53 the door opens and Jarrett and hoggle wanted it to be Sarah but it wasn’t so they are both sad ☹️
One reason to watch Labyrinth "David Bowie"
this song have the power to take me to another galaxy.
This movie and soundtrack... MY FAVORITE.
HE'S NOT HE'S A BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL 🥰 STAR RIP DAVID BOWIE ❤️🦋🌈

One of my favorite Bowie songs. I love it
In his castle in Mars full of stars in the space! Long live in my heart my dear Bowie ! Beautiful soul of music, chameleon of dreams, always shine on the sky !!! I absolutely love everything of Bowie !!! Thanks for the inspired comment !
David Bowie
Bowie is very much alive in my heart and always will be. The love of a lifetime
I remember when I first saw this film, I was in catholic school and it was a Friday . I was really young, I think it was like “86” or early “87”. Life was much more happier and simple. I had my grandma, friends and all the kool-aid I wanted, fast forward to today and I am reminiscing about THAT era that I miss so much 😥😥😥😥😥😥
Me too
I was 17 when the labyrinth soundtrack was released.
He had a lot of good songs for the 80s to be his weakest work.
@@imakamera798 I try to not remember 90s Bowie. It was dark times lol.
Jareth 💚💚💚

This song and film touch my heart like no other..know every song off heart...it's sad if you think about the film and actually realise what it was about...two people who desire each other but can't have each other! I love this film it will always be my favrote hate that hes gone!
As I was remembering your birthday I stumbled on this song. It's an unknown one for me. What a present!
