Manjeet XI emerged as the champions of the Independence Day Knockout Football Tournament, organized by Salugara Netra Bindu Sangha, with a commanding 4-0 victory over Siliguri United Football Club in the final match held on Thursday at Salugara Playground.
The first half of the match ended goalless, but Manjeet XI dominated the second half, scoring four consecutive goals. Suraj Kamti led the charge, netting two goals in the 40th and 70th minutes. Saurabh Tamang and Biku added to the tally, scoring in the 65th and 67th minutes, respectively.
As champions, Manjeet XI received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with an attractive trophy. Siliguri United FC, the runners-up, were awarded Rs 50,000 and a trophy.
Manjeet XI's captain, Suraj Kamti, was named Player of the Match and received a cash prize and a trophy. Saurabh Tamang, the young forward, was honoured as the Player of the Tournament, receiving a 3-tola Silver bracelet.
Additionally, the champions and runners-up were awarded trophies and medals. Teams in the Veterans category were also recognized, with both the champion and runner-up teams receiving cash prizes and trophies.
