I own 2 versions of this lens. Both FD fittings. One made in Japan. This one apperture doesnt work; it stays wide open all the time (what to do?) The other is made in Korea (like the one in this video). That one has mould / fungus and has to be cleaned. But FD fitting i think is even more difficult than in this video....hm, what to do?
I have the same Vivitar lens as you starting with the same serial number 89, do you know which company made them? I can't find any information about it! Vivitar Subcontracted Lens Makers (1st two digits of serial number) 6 Olympus 9 Cosina 13 Schneider Optik 22 Kino (aka Kiron) 25 Ozone Optical 28 Komine 32 Makinon 33 Asanuma 37 Tokina 42 Bauer 44 Perkin Elmer (US) 47 Chinon 51 Tokyo Trading 56 Kyoe Schoji 75 Hoya Optical 81 Polar
Most vintage lenses made in Japan use precision JIS screws, and not Phillips, so a good JIS screwdriver is needed. As far as cleaning goes, lots of cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol.
Great tutorial as always!
Just picked up this lens dust and fungus free so hopefully I’ll never need this tutorial but awesome to have this on hand if the worst happens 👍🏻

Very informative video. What cleaning kit and tools you recommend for doing this myself?

Why do you cover the serial number of the lenses? Its not like its a state secret or anything. Its a 30+ year old lens.
