#2. Why doesn't anyone talk about it? Why is it so wrong?
The fact that I even asked that, some of the ladies watching, you're like, "this guy's a dirty, sick pervert! I'm turning this off right now!", and you just answered the second question: why doesn't anyone talk about it?
Nobody talks about it because as soon as you do you get labeled a cretin. I know from experience. You know what I mean. I was talking about a porn clock that I bring on the road. I travel in a bus a lot of time. When you go to bed, you get in this little cave of a bunk, and you go to sleep, and a lot of guys I know would bring their smartphone into their bunk, and they would set their alarm. Well doing that, a lot of guys I know found themselves tumbling into an addiction into pornography, and so I said, "hey, I'm gonna buy this little clock, so I just don't even bring the world wide web into my bunk", and I just put it in a drawer, and then I get in my little cave, and my alarm will wake me up. The responses I got, I mean, people said "you're obviously not a Christian because you want to look at porn. You haven't been redeemed you are mutant, and I'm never listening to your music again”. I said, "wow! I didn't even confess to looking at porn. I didn't even confess to wanting to look at porn. I confessed to putting up a guardrail in case the desire were ever to arise”.
Here’s what we need to understand: why is porn so wrong? First, let's ask, “why is it right?” You're like, "what you talking 'bout, Willis? It's never right". You're right. Looking at porn is never right, but it starts with a right desire, doesn't it?
I mean Satan can't create desire.He can only twist good desire, and make it wrong. I would argue the desire to look at porn starts with the good desire to procreate. Dudes, if you didn't have the desire to be with a woman, the human race would become extinct, okay? So, before you start beating yourself up cause you might want to look at porn from now time again, you need to first go, “wait, what's the right desire? The right desire is, I want to become a gift and to become one with a woman”. The Scriptures calls it “the two become one flesh”.
Here's another question: how come it wasn't wrong for Adam and Eve to be naked in each other's presence? You ever think about that? We're told they were naked and unashamed. I would argue this: before sin came into the world it wasn't possible for Adam to look upon Eve and divorce her body from her soul, but when sin entered suddenly, they covered up because, at that moment,
Adam was able to look upon Eve and exploit her. He was able to divorce her soul from her body. He was able to use her body for his own enjoyment without having to give her anything.
This is why pornography, lust, casual sex - it is a counterfeit to the real thing. It's trying to make easy what was always meant to demand everything. Pornography. Casual sex. It lacks integrity.
It says, "I'm willing to do with my body what I'm not willing to give with my whole life", right?
This is why the earth was cursed for Adam after sin came in, right? It said, “you're gonna experience thorns and thistles”. Pornography is this temptation of what if I could have it all, and remove the thorns and thistles out of love, right? Pornography is all take and no give. This is why that good desire has gone so wrong. It's because Christ says no true fulfillment comes in giving yourself away, not in taking for yourself.
So, if you've kind of like, gone down a road, and you found yourself way further down this pornography thing than you ever imagined, number one: first, talk about it. I know it's scary, and I know people will label you, but you are more than the sum of your past mistakes. Maybe find new motivation to say no to that screen, because you're unwilling to settle for a counterfeit when Christ has something far greater to offer you."

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS. First, girls definitely can struggle with porn too. Any females out there who feel alone, you're not. Second, thank you Tenth Avenue North and Mike for addressing this topic. I have been sharing with my friends for years how sad I am that the church doesn't address this topic enough. It is difficult to help people find freedom from their sin when you pretend it doesn't exist. So excited for this new album.

I'm a woman, I love porn, I have mental illnesses that cause me to be hypersexual and I'm gay so I'm screwed and suicidal in this area. All the praying, fasting, etc I done for years has not worked yet.
@@brokengirl8619 You may feel as if it's not working, but God is always at work regardless if we see it or not. Keep seeking, keep praying. God loves you and you're not defined by your failures. He wants us to draw near to Him. It's all about relationship, not checking things off a list to maybe find freedom. We need to seek God first above all else. When I was really deep in porn, I was praying and fasting, but not seeing any progress. But, when I started seeking God first and wanting God, not idolizing freedom, I started seeing freedom and deliverance. I'm not fully out of it yet, but I see light at the end of the tunnel. Porn is a choice. We have a choice. You're delightful to God. I don't know where you are on your journey since this was a few years ago, but you are so loved and God wants you to leave this behind. Keep seeking Jesus.

Guilt is easy to repent for but shame is much harder, stays hidden down deep. By bringing this all into the light (like your song) healing can begin on this subject for many. You just gifted me with a huge Ah-Ha moment!! My first husband watched porn all the time thru out our marriage. Self pleasing himself all. The. Time. If we were intimate he wanted me to act like the woman in the porn he watched. I would even cry during it because I didn’t feel loved or cared for. I always felt like an object. This made me lose my desire to be intimate with him. He thought I wasn’t attracted to him. He thought I had to be “getting it” from someone else. I wasn’t. I would try to talk to him about my feelings and he just wouldn’t hear me. I spent 20 years in that marriage. I was mentally abused and didn’t have the guts to leave because I never wanted to be a “divorced” couple. My husband was all take and no give when it came to intimacy. Hey tenthavenuenorth! I read a few of the comments, and it’s clear that God has already used this video to help men and women affected by porn. I saw one of your videos a few weeks ago that shared the heart behind this new album-to say things that so often go unsaid. I want to thank you for what you’re doing. This is intimidating for any of us, especially so for a group of fellas in the spotlight. There’s risk, in other words. Mike, I just want to say I’m sorry you’ve been shut down or labeled in the past. It’s something I’ve also experienced as a minister trying to speak to these things. If you’re anything like me, it really hurts when that backlash comes. I also have to say that the porn issue in general is uniquely challenging to discuss. On one hand, everybody knows what porn is. But on the other hand, “porn” conjures up different images for everybody. It can mean a picture of a woman posing seductively in a bathing suit. Or, it could mean something far, far more. It’s an incredibly broad category of imagery that encompasses both images and graphic videos, not to mention every kind of sexual situation you can imagine (and then a lot more). Because everyone has a different experience (or at least a different idea of porn), it can be really hard to talk about it in generalities. All that to say... we never really no how far it’s gone for the people we’re ministering to when we try to talk about it... And that’s why I think it’s important to handle the topic with the utmost care-not avoid it by any means, just handle it with care. Also, I think about the women (or people in general) who do push back... I think sometimes it’s because of the inherent betrayal involved with porn use in relationships. Girlfriends, fiancées, and wives often feel completely rejected and worthless (physically speaking) when their guy looks at porn. I agree with you.. It truly is a matter of gratifying that God-given urge (howbeit in the wrong way), but I wonder sometimes if framing the conversation in terms of scratching a sexual itch overshadows the deep wounds that men and women cause their significant others when they turn to porn for satisfaction. Actually, I don’t think your video misses that point at all because Mike does goes on to talk about the problem of divorcing a person’s body from his/her soul. That part of th video was huge for me, personally. Please keep up the good work, and please continue to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading as He gives you the right words to say. And, of course, stay in conversation with people who are affected by these unspoken issues from all different angles. Love you guys. Your brother in Jesus, Greg.

Amen, you are do right. Men and women can be tempted by porn. It's good to put up safeguards for porn and fornication. . I always loved that about you that you are real and Christians can be tempted by same things as a non Christian. Man, the closer I know my Creator, Jesus, the more aware I am that I will never be perfect. I like those boundaries around me too, to keep my castle door shut so the enemy cannot enter. I have just watched this on UA-cam after the first teaching video. I know that one of my friends who is also a nice, Godly loving lady from Chicago, Sierra Franklin herself has also struggled with this type of sin by looking at porn. First, in my opinion as a single guy, there's nothing wrong with looking at a girl or woman. Second, I'm not a porn addict or do I enjoy watching porn. Porn is for those who have little or no hope for a bigger, better, brightier future with someone of the opposite sex or gender. Lastly, I also know this because I'm still an Introvert and also quiet and shy around girls like I was growing up and going to School, while working in the mail room and even now at the Lowe's here in Monroe, even though I'm opening up just a little bit. I've never looked at, talked, flirted with or even hit on or banged a girl or woman like she was an object instead of a human being with real thoughts and emotions. It's getting, understanding and respecting them, that I'm still learning, honestly :-).
You said sex is for procreation. What is you do not want to procreate but just have sex? Even in marriage sex is not always about procreation.
