He was angry because she didn't understand him properly. I knew what was going on so I took over. When we got out, I told him the cashier was hearing impaired. He felt so bad he went back to her to apologize.

Ruth has such a beautiful soul. Its impossible to explain Tourettes to every single person who walks by you on the street, sits in the subway or in the stores. She handles peoples reactions very well. I think I would be so annoyed at having to explain something so personal to every person who asks day after day I would punch someone. So glad the singing helps- heard the same with a few other people with this syndrome and hope research is made into this connection because it is one of the few promising avenues for relief. 💗

I have both vocal and motor tics like this. I do not feel ok alone in public. I've had the police called on me despite saying I had TS and I have been punched in the face. I pretty much avoid going out except in places where I feel exceptionally well understood or safe. As I get older less and less places feel like that to me. I find the condition entirely embarrassing no matter how much publicity it is given and I am fed up with people treating me as if I'm mentally ill or worse - treating my children 'special ' because it must be hard living with a 'mentally ill' mum. It makes it harder because unknown to most people both my children have slight tics so the condescending attitude makes it harder for them to accept their own tics.
I always think it is good when they periodically put on these programs about visible or noticiable conditions. The public gets used to seeing it and know what it is and so in general they don't get as offended or suprised when they come across such a person in their lives. That in turn helps the person with the condition feel able to go outside and take part in any activities they want and even just to be ordinary.
I'm American and I feel bad for laughing but it's not that she's swearing it's that she's swearing with British swear words .. And idk that's just super funny to me
