Honestly, when I first got interested in learning some cool Death Metal riffs, I started with Spirit Crusher by Death. Some pretty easy and cool riffs in that song
Mr Smith, best om the youtube. I watched your previous tutorials, and with very simple means they opened up a whole new metal universe for a beginner. Thanks!
Hello, I am a beginner and I am a little confused. In the first riff he is pressing the second string but picking the first string, how do you know what strings to pick?
Thanks Simon! As a new guitar player I've had endless fun learning and mastering these riffs, i watch this video STILL, never gets old, you're the man! 🤘
I’ve been a huge fan of death metal and always wanted to learn guitar since 2008 and I always put it off and did other things but I finally got one and the time has come to sit here start from level one and earn my skill
Bolt Thrower really are perfect to learn this style , not over complicated but brutal with most of the fundamentals of the genre. Plus they have many great foot tapping, head nodding riffs to learn. 🤘
Thanks for this video! I'm still new to guitar so I have to learn all the basic chords and techniques still and it gets quite boring so having something awesome that's easy enough for me to play is really motivating and helps break up the tedium of learning the basics.
Still my all time favorite death song. The riff is brutal yet catchy, and the "why don't you" section just makes you want to punch something, or put the pedal to the floor while driving.
@@craigpaulson3503 So simple too. It just goes to show that a good guitar tone and rhythm that you can headbang/tap your foot to is the key to an awesome riff.
Everytime I think I could do a new Lesson on UA-cam, I search and end up on your channel 😅👍 And that for many years now. So, thanks alot for the absoluetly great content 🙏👍🎉🎉😎
Wow your first lesson and going to go straight into death metal. ok. Mind you I've been playing for to years and I only learnt to chug two months ago. I wanted to play rock and that's what I do but then I got into metal as well.
Nice video for beginners... I can play all the riffs but I really enjoyed your teaching method... You should do more teaching videos of song and theory as well, keep rocking... Greetings from Italy (sorry for bad English)
I used to have one but sold it. Kept the EHX Pitchfork though, but wanted all of these to be in standard tuning so beginners didn't have to keep adjusting their tuning 🤘
Hey thanks man, great video, glad I found you and subbed! I'm new to playing death metal and I know these originals are tuned down from standard but are they played the exact same way on the fret board as you are playing? TY
So glad I've come across you're channel!! So keen to practise this, jjst subbed! Be sick if you could make a deathcore/metalcore for beginners you haven't already (havent searched ya channel yet haha)
Man this awesome. Wish I decided to learn these riffs earlier when I first watch the video months ago but not sure what happened. Better late than ever tho
If such lessons had existed in the 90s it would have been so much easier to figure out how some riffs are being played. All you got were Songbooks and the heaviest stuff you could get as Tabulature was Slayer. For everything else you have to sit down listen and try.
Thanks this rocks I just got a guitar for Christmas and don't know how to play anything- but so adore black metal and think its really such beautiful music to learn. LOve this series can you also do a hair metal list with songs like Talk Dirty to me by POSION and maybe something from RATT. Lol at least My dogs and bird seem to like it!
Holy shit how weird. I saw the title and then for some reason Reality When you Die popped into my head, was just about to write you a request for it, and then well I be fuckered, there it was!
Could you do more stuff about Sepultura? Recently finished listening to their discography and I'm amazed by their albums: schizophrenia, arise, chaos a.d. and roots
Here's the levels Level 1: Smoke on The Water- Drop D (rhythm) Level 2: Smells Like Teen Spirit (rhythm) Level 3: Walk Pantera (rhythm) Level 4: Shadow Moses- BMTH Level 5: War Ensemble- Slayer (rhythm) Level 6: Fit For an Autopsy-Black Mammoth Level 7: Pareidolia-Elena Siegmann Level 8: Pray for Plagues- BMTH Level 9: Drone Corpse Aviator- Archspire
This guy is great! I went from playing Smoke On The Water to Cenotaph in less than a week! Definitely subscribing.
01:07 Bolt Thrower - Cenotaph (C# standard)
04:30 Carcass - Corporal Jigsaw Quandary (B standard)
07:56 Death - Living Monstrosity (D standard)
10:09 Obituary - Rotting Ways (D standard)
13:57 Gorefest - Reality When You Die (C standard)
16:27 Morbid Angel - Day of Suffering (D standard)
How do you do the different standards and drops? I'm a noob
@@kirisutegomen12 U should Google how

This is really helpful for me! Thank you so much. I’ve started playing electric guitar and this lesson inspires me a lot.
Really appreciate you doing this in Standard! And they still sound totally badass. Cheers, just subscribed.

You need to make one with thrash metal riffs
Pull The Plug by Death is amazing. The first death metal riff I learnt (THERE IS NO HOPE WHY DON'T YOU etc etc)
Still my all time favorite death song. The riff is brutal yet catchy, and the "why don't you" section just makes you want to punch something, or put the pedal to the floor while driving.

God like technique man!
That first riff sounds a bit like symptom of the universe from Black Sabbath. Killer!
Or cenotaph by bolt thrower
Thanks man 👍🏾
hope i can learn that, good video
Fantastic like always
your tutorials are awesome. 👍
Thanks for the lesson as always. I'm a Gibson man, but that PRS is a MUST have. Cheers Simon. 🙏👹🤘🎸
I'm a Gibson guy too. Not that I've got one.
Thanks🎉
Yo great video! I don’t even listen to metal at all but I love playing this stuff on guitar lol
Great videos. I really enjoy them.
Have you thought about buying a digitech drop pedal? It would be great for videos like this.

Good tips. How come you don't use a real Mesa Boogie Mark V amp? Also what tunings are you using on these riffs?
So you play all these riffs in E standard it seems ? Happy new year good job !
Killer selection. More MA would be ace.
vicious tone!
Congrats! speaking of the devil mr. Smith, any thoughts about the boss hm-2? greetings from Mexico!
I came across your has I've just bought a jackson to learn metal,im really thinking about doing the beginners course has l dont know a thing

What processors or Stomp u have used here?
Obituary Redneck Stomp is a real easy song to learn and it’s nice and groovy
That first riff reminded me of "Symptom Of The Universe" by Black Sabbath.
The second riff is a metal version of misirlou
Hey @Simon Smith, that's a sweet guitar you're playing on! What guitar is it?
Thanks. It's a PRS S2 Standard 22

Excellent Simon!!! 🤘😎

Man I love your guitar what is it ?
I wish I could ever play guitar like that🥺
What settings is the amp set to?
What guitar you using
Sick watch on your left arm Simon, what is it?
Fitbit Charge 3 buddy
I thought guitar teachers would tell you off for having a watch on your arms?
Can it be played acoustic version just like the black metal riffs?
yes

Could you do more stuff about Sepultura? Recently finished listening to their discography and I'm amazed by their albums: schizophrenia, arise, chaos a.d. and roots
Schizophrenia have a sick guitar tone, so fucking hard to replicate
Easiest riff in the world is Roots Bloody Roots lol - just hammer on a B into a C and there you are, halfway to becoming Max Cavalera himself.
Take out Roots and replace with Beneath the Remains and you got it
What pedals are you using to get that sound I have a distortion pedal and the noise killer but it still doesn't sound right
Did I put it in the description?
Don't even own a guitar anymore and I watched the whole thing, I miss my guitar
Why’d you get rid of it
@@SoggySandwich80 just had a baby, lived in apartment and couldn't really play it with any volume, not to mention I'm not very good
@@kensmith2822 you could use headphones dude.
Me too
I gave up playing. It's been 5 years. Wanna dig right in again after some ups and downs in my life.
What is a def Mel riff
tight pick
My neighbour Is learning with me collective project
are all these riffs in E?
what do i need to start playing? i have a guitar and amp but it doesnt sound the same. complete beginner
in order to get started in metal, i'd suggest picking up a distortion pedal. the ProCo Rat is a good cheaper option.
