this rendition is heads above the others. this song…what can I say? scotts voice, the piano...it is just perfection. thank you avett brothers. i hope to see you again.
The liar of our dreams is so convincing when selling his tale of life until death. We awaken to eternal life only after our "self" has died. Die, then grow. Avetts for "life "
This song, Die Then Grow, is another one of their great masterpieces. Being up front for the first time seeing the Avett Bros. playing this song first time too is even more remarkable. They brought tremendous energy to the stage that seems to empower them as well as the fans. I got, as it seems, one of the only photo shots tat that event with Bob Crawford, by shear luck. He is a courteous gentleman showing no outward signs of complacentsy. He was easy going and grateful for my compliments.
LOVE the song for the instrumental genius, lyrical meaning, innovating melody, and, passionate delivery of every individual verse, I especially love when Scott says "OK let's bring it in!" The performance in Newport RI was incredible!
@brodank pretty sure it's Die Than Grow. I actually asked both Scott and Seth about this last August, shortly after they debuted it, and they both seemed hesitant, though they said it was Die Than Grow. But I agree, I think there is purposeful double meaning here.
I find it hard to believe you're telling the truth. Anyone who's been to that many Avett Brothers shows know that the Avett Brothers are full of love and don't tolerate things like this.
die than grow sounds just like die then grow, but with a totally different meaning. does anyone have the lyrics from them, to tell which one is meant here? thx
@mslizaruiz1959 Often wonder where these men are. Is it just that other women snap them up before we can find them? I live in a small, small town. The men are either too old, drunks/druggies, not compatible or insane partiers. The good ones must be hiding somewhere I'm not seeing them. That or they just don't exist in my town. If it weren't for my family and stable, long held job - it would be tempting to move.
@denishew ok, man. we get it. you don't like the song. now stop ruining everyone else's experience and go back listening to bruno mars or whatever you like.
@camhasanemail Like I said, I love their old stuff. I apologize for ruining your experience. I encourage you to keep on enjoying your tube sock, your dark closet, and this recent Avett video.
@maggielicious14 You're absolutely right! This is the post positively forum, eh? How about I just say super duper things about every song the Avett Brothers ever write so they keep writing such awesome catchy songs!?!?!? C'mon get a life --- they wrote some awesome stuff earlier, very original, and now they write garbage. Simple as that.

I just listened to this song for the first time..I can't speak and have tears streaming down my face.
Lyrical geniuses ... I would marry any man that would say those beauiful words to me ...
This rendition trumps the studio version by a longshot. I've been streaming this for a couple of years now. Don't ever delete this clip!
Yep. I like the viola/violin better than the electric guitars.

Amazing. Can't wait for the Pittsburgh show this Friday. Would love to hear this song !
well i love it.....classic avett if you ask me....and even if you didnt ask....its classic avett
This sounds awesome. Sounds like they are taking the "I and Love and You" path again.
Actually ya'll, this song is more true to form of their older material than most of the newer tunes.
"...unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
@brodank pretty sure it's Die Than Grow. I actually asked both Scott and Seth about this last August, shortly after they debuted it, and they both seemed hesitant, though they said it was Die Than Grow. But I agree, I think there is purposeful double meaning here.
@brodank Thats the great part about the lyrics, she said I'd rather die than grow, they are saying if you do, Die THEN grow
This song is being released as a bonus on the new CD the carpenter, it is titled die then grow. should clear up some confusion
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
@mslizaruiz1959 Any man can say these words...yet I truly believe these men mean every word they say! I cannot say this for many others unfortunately.
@OliverJHunt and Seth Attorney General...These men are the most ethical people I know of!
@brodank You're right, but I think he also says "die, then grow" at the very end of the song...
This is so beautiful
Thanks for sharing!
@DontTreadFootball so true, they're 2 of a kind, well, the whole family are to be honest
@ilcorvojo3 Hope that means it'll be on the next studio album whenever that happens (hopefully soon!)
Nice
Brang back da banjo!!!

@mglodo Amen... there are things worse than death, and they are important to die to...

@TheDailyGPT Correction. They WERE great. I've been to 15 shows. Love their old stuff! Their new stuff belongs in your grandmother's underpants.
zero dislikes as it should be

@denishew um if you have something negative to say, dont say it..simple as that dude

@stina20a oh sweetheart were out there. we just get overlooked...
strangely similar to i and love and you
Thanks Ms Hash :)
Is that a flippin' Guild S-style guitar I spot here?
When/where was this recorded??
i think it means grow spiritually? what do i know.lol
die than grow sounds just like die then grow, but with a totally different meaning. does anyone have the lyrics from them, to tell which one is meant here? thx
@denishew then i suggest the avett brothers song "die die die". there's your problem. just listening to the wrong song.
yum. Guild S-100 in the pic
if we only could do it in that order ha
should it be called "Die THAN Grow" instead of "Die THEN Grow"?. scott says "You would rather die than grow"?
@stina20a "nice guys finish last" is a well known saying for a reason :/
Seriously? 10 dislikes? That’s a sin.

@creekerwalker how would you know if your the only 10 year old to listen to the avett's? lol
@denishew ok, man. we get it. you don't like the song. now stop ruining everyone else's experience and go back listening to bruno mars or whatever you like.
@jakesakook Exactamundo.
@TimmyJihad :P
You're thinking too literally.
@mslizaruiz1959 I'd marry any woman that would appreciate them.
I would rather die die die than listen to this song!!!
@mslizaruiz1959 desperate.
@camhasanemail Like I said, I love their old stuff. I apologize for ruining your experience. I encourage you to keep on enjoying your tube sock, your dark closet, and this recent Avett video.
