  • America's homeless crisis is everywhere. This week Im visiting family in Binghamton, a small town in upstate New York with approximately 45,000 people. This is where I met Eddie.
    Eddie used to work as a cook before becoming disabled. Like many homeless, he relies on recycling for an income. Eddie said he has not slept in two days because it's so cold outside (last night, the mercury dropped to 16 degrees).
    Eddie does not know what his future will be. His only hope is to survive another day.

    About Invisible People:
    Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
    Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
    Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

    So sad to see that someone would steal the only belongings a homeless person has, shameful. Eddie's a real trooper to sleep outside in frigid upstate New York

    How sad.
    My heart goes out for this poor man.
    Some times I hate the way some people in this world of ours think they superior to other people.
    I hope this poor man gets the help he should have!

    This is so sad. People really die being homeless out in the freezing cold nights. Some rapists and murders and child molesters have it eaiser than this guy. Some body get this guy a sleeping bag and tent and somewhere warm to sleep.

    It takes a person in the same position to truly understand what its like to be homeless and to want to help those suffering. How much money does our Government spend on War? How about bail out the homeless by establishing what Eddie wants to do. We would have the homeless employed caring for those in great need to survive. Make Eddies wish come true!

    Believe it or not, but a lot of homeless people don't want to live "in the grid". They actually don't want government help. We have more than enough money. It's the average people on the streets, that give money, that truly help people like this guy. The government simply can't help a guy like this because they can't find the homeless. The homeless in a free country are far better off than people in a tyranical country.

    Here is a person that is truely living day by day.. because of his current situation, there is absolutly No possiblity of employment. Even if God should smile upon him, and he had a job the next day, the Very Minimum to move into a "home" would be nearly 800 dollars. So, abiding a job was givin to him; how would he keep sanitary for the next day at work? How would he eat healthy enough to maintain perfomence?

    @Movieater TECHNICALLY, tobacco is not a DRUG. Tobacco is not the addictive quality, it's the nicotine. I know alcohol is a drug, I am fully aware of that concept. A drug alters your state of mind, cigarettes don't. I bet you don't smoke, do you?

    @rjjoiner By going to one of the many public services meant for him. Homeless people dont like the shelter because they have to wait in line and be courteous to other people. They'd rather pick garbage on their own time, than get a shower and food on someone elses time.
    A minimum to move into a home in a major city isn't anywhere near $800. Many low income apartments will give you month to month leases with no security deposit. $300 bucks and he's in. That's a week of work.

  • @TwinkleRBD
    @TwinkleRBD 14 років тому

    @Movieater Well I agree, that money could be put to better use, but, if they buy alchohol, that alcohol keeps them warm in the winter. Where I live, there are many, many homeless people, some of them choose to be that way, and since you don't smoke, do you know how cheap tobacco is? Not cigarettes - but tobacco. it's very cheap, he's not wasting that much by buying it.

    @Movieater And on another note, why do you care what this man does with his life? He's homeless, that doesn't make him any less then anyone else. It's his own choice to spend his money on tobacco, you shouldn't care. Hell, you don't even know him.

    @TwinkleRBD Drug - something and often an illegal substance that causes addiction, habituation, or a marked change in consciousness. Tobacco is most certainly a drug, you admit it in your own contradictory statement, because yes, it is an addiction. It is not a need however, as he will not die if he is deprived of it. Basically everything in your post is inaccurate.

  • @Movieater
    @Movieater 14 років тому

    @TwinkleRBD i never said he was less than anyone. i just find stupid that homeless people waste their few money on addictions. and no i don't smoke, and i tried, but honestly i don't find it interesting whatsoever. if he does good for him, but tobbaco it's luxury, not need. the amount of money he could have saved from those cigarettes would be useful for a homeless no? just saying

  • @Movieater
    @Movieater 14 років тому

    @endocry Thanks alot, i was going to say the same thing. Why do people talk about what they don't know? Just because it's legal doesn't mean it isn't a drug. probably twinkle thinks alcohol isn't a drug aswell.
