I used to listen to the weekday show 4-6 and tape it too. A couple of big moments on the Westwood show for me were when he interviewed David Toop (That was the 3 hour Sunday Show) about his book Rap Attack (African Jive To New York Hip Hop) I think that was the show I first heard Do or Die Bedsty by Divine Sounds.
I also remember when Westwood first played Rebel Without A Pause by Public Enemy - It brought in a new era in Hip Hop. That Screaming Sax was mind blowing!
Tim Westwood also played the Payoff Mixes (Parts 1-3) that was a big influence me....
      I'll shut up now.....

That was before UK Hip-Hop had its own identity as it was mainly a US dominated scene at the time, so it made sense to rap in an American accent especially if you wanted to go far with it. It worked for London-Born rappers Monie Love & Slick Rick who managed to break into the US hip-hop scene 🤷🏿‍♂️

Our little crew used to be mezmerised by this part of the video and he even made Tom Jones sound dope! ;) ...The graff got us hooked as we could see it was on trains we rode!... Nice piece by Kis42.. And oh yeah Kis42 you still owe me a couple of acid trips when we were at Stages Nightclub Chesham but then you skanked us lmao! .... Plus look at Pride's black and white sketch... Still ruff today...... Also a little off topic I used to have a tape with Cookie Crew rapping live with DJ Boom Bash... If anyone has this I would love a copy!....

@@shredder9536 He wasn't a hip hop DJ back then. He started playing hip hop around 1985 I think, on Kiss - that was a breakthrough year for hip hop in the UK as Mike Allen's Capital Radio Show got going (started in 84) and Dave Pearce started a hip hop show on BBC Radio London (this later led to his 'A Fresh Start to the Week' Monday evening slot on Radio 1). These were the three main radio pioneers of the mid 80's and they left a huge legacy. Sadly Mike Allen is no longer with us - RIP The Boss in London.

quite tragic and sad really that the moment Tim Westwood signed to Radio 1 from Capital Radio & before that the formerly illegal London pirate station known as Kiss FM *nowadays more like commercial shit FM* we all chanted hooray rap & hip hops finally going out to the whole nation.....rap & hip hop will be every where and no longer just seen as a passing fad or for the most part on the underground......how wrong could i have been......the moment Westwood signed to Radio 1 it was all pretty much downhill after that.....my theory is that the real Tim Westwood either got kidnapped by little green men who beamed him up quicker than scottie or maybe they cloned him like Mollie The Sheep and replaced by some carbon copy twat that completely sold the f*ck out to the industry......this is a wicked documentry but its sad that by the time this was produced in 1987 breakin/b-boying had died out & i think its either the COOKIE CREW or WEE PAPA GIRL RAPPERS that mention that.....but its good that everything seems to go full circle.....RAP went in its own direction commercially and ended up as it is now & in the process has gradually forgotton the rest of the culture it derived from ie the DJ'S,the B-BOYS & the GRAFF WRITERS......HIP HOP ain't HIP HOP without the other elements straight up! What many B-boys perform these days is absolutely mind blowing and is worldwide in some countrys that possibly missed the first wave in the early 80's and wasn't exposed to it.....graffiti has also gone global & every subway & railway network has been hit quite heavily over the last 30 years.......dispite rap taking the shitty commercial route on the whole HIP HOP has taken over the whole world in so many ways and influenced so many people and walks of life.....how they dress, how they talk, sharing knowledge & wisdom over the microphone *big respect to KRS 1......nearly 30 years in the game* writers,b-boy crews,turntablists,mc's.....HIP HOPS EVERY WHERE!!!!!!!!!! f*ck da mainstream!!!!!!!!!
