      Awesome, I just bought a new 250 EXC-F rather than older used 450/530 bikes I was looking at. I think gnarly/tech trails will really make up for lack of being a fun "on the road" bike. Plus, I'm only 150 lbs

      irrelevant if you ride more difficult terrain..... if the terrain was more extreme all the low end torque bikes would win, definitely not the 4 stroke 250.

    I was expecting to 350 to be revving harder in this test , would've thought it should be the fastest on that particular circuit.

    After test driving a 2017 2 stroke KTM 300 EXC and found it lacking in power compared to my old Yamaha WR450 I ended up bying a brand new 2019 KTM 500 EXC F. I am starting to love the KTM more and more even if it is a beast if you give it throttle but it is also more gentle then the WR450 in spite of having more power :) The 2 stroke just did not come close to the raw power the big 4 strokes have at all rev ranges... It is true the 500 will make you smile :) It might not be the most practical one specially for a rider with little experience like me but it is fun fun fun :)

    The new TPI are awsome, i use 300 TPI for 20 hours and it feels great, very good reaction of theottle, low fuel consumption, very very light at least that's how it feels !

    What exactly do you mean by "hard to ride fast". I'm currently trying to decide between the 250 and the 300 2 strokes. I want to get into hard enduro soon but the trails now are open for a stretch then tight and slow then open again. Thoughts?

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  7 років тому

      +Richard Groot It's physically more demanding and needs more effort. I liked the 300 more because of the bottom end grunt. It's a great bike for everything.

    I’m going to buy the 250 TPI or the 300 TPI, which one do you recomend me? I’m pretty much a beginner. I had a 125 4stroke on the past but I barely used it. Thanks for your opinions 😇

      Get the 300TPI I've read just about every review out there on the tpi bikes and the consensus is the 300 is better.
      I think the 300 is a better choice the extra power will keep you entertained longer. If initially the bike is too powerful you can just sellect the mellow ignition map untill you get used to it.

    Hi, Im going to buy a ktm tpi, but i don't know what to choose between 250 or 300. Ive never ride a 2t dirt bike, i used to have a husq 350 4t. Whats your recommendation?

    • @EnduroWithAlex

      300EXC. The feel was more like a four stroke.

  • @dante04srt
    @dante04srt 6 років тому +1

    Still not happy about there being no 4 stroke XCF-W anymore. It was such a perfect bike for much of the US terrain. I guess I'll have to keep my '14 350 XCFW indefinitely.

    350 or 500 for single track enduro riding? Want the torque but easy handling. Do you think it would be less clutch and gear changes with the 500? I feel the 350 will take more effort having to rev it out so much and change gears more often etc. Thoughts? I'm coming from a 250 exc and want something a bit lazier / easier

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  7 років тому

      350 is a good for that. Not so demanding to ride in lower revs/tight stuff.

    Quick question, 250 excf or 350 excf? I've got a fair bit of experience riding motox and currently run a crf250l (dual sport) which I've outgrown, it's too underpowered and the suspension is way too soft. Looking to buy in to something decent but don't want to buy a 250 and outgrow it like I have with the crf. The 250 seems to get lots of good reviews and graham jarvis absolutely rips up extreme enduro on his 250f, is a 350 necessary? Almost all of my riding is off road, trails and enduro. I'm 100kg and 6ft.

  • @TopEnduro
    @TopEnduro 7 років тому +5

    Lefa is always on point also with these reviews! Anyway I still don't like a bunch of things about the new KTMs, especially the Xplor 48 forks (tried them and they are ridiculous, even my 2009 Marzocchi felt better) and the usage of cheap materials such as printed aluminium instead of ergal.
    In addition, I personally prefer the carburetor over the injection system as I find it more reliable on the long term and less inclined to electrical failures... But I sadly have to recognise that's the evolution and the future of dirt riding.
    Anyway awesome video ad usual, liked the color correction 😉

    Hi lefa; first of all; thanks for this video and all these informations; i have some questions for you.
    I actually have a 350 EXC-F; and i hesitate enter the 300TPI and the 250TPI.
    I explain; i do sometimes "hard" enduro (at my level aha); but i want a bike really light when i do endurance racing.
    The difference of weight (sensation) enter these two bikes is really important when you ride ?
    The 250TPI have enough torque compare to the carburator ?
    Thanks for your answer; and sorry for my bad english !

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  7 років тому

      +Enduro Bastos 250 has the same amount of torque than the earlier carburetor versions but the traction is much better because of the smooth power delivery.

    Of the 4-strokes, which do you recommend for me? I'm looking for a 4-stroke that is easy to ride in slow technical terrain I've had a Honda XR250R, KTM 350 XCFW, and Beta 250R. I'm 48 years old and 180 lbs. I live and ride in Colorado. I've done a couple of enduro races in the C class, and did fairly decent. Just looking for a good trail bike for technical terrain.

    Finally a great back to back review on the whole range.
    Could you please tell me your thoughts on the 350excf compared to the 250excf? in terms of differences in power, rider ability ect
    I am about to buy my first bike and 99% sure on the 350excf as i will have the bike for a while.

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  7 років тому

      350 needs more power from the rider as it's a bit heavier overall than the 250. 250 has tighter service interval so I bet the 350 is great overall bike that suits both enduro and hobby motocross.

    • @aheppner9750

      150 will really teach you a lot of clutch control and will make you work hard to go fast which is good. Because if you can go fast on a 150 or 125, You can go fast on anything. If I were you I would get a used 150 and once you feel the need for more power, Get a new 250 if you want.

      Aleksi Rinne - lefa25 why 250excf? Is it easier to ride than 350excf?

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  7 років тому +3

      Yes it's much easier to ride and control. Learning new riding techniques is much easier and you'll be riding the bike and not being a passenger. And when the time comes changing to a bigger bike is "natural". That's why I'm always recommending 125 2stroke or a 250 4stroke as a first bike. Still I see a lot of people with big bikes, like 350ccs or 450cc's. They are not making that fast if any progress with their riding "skills" because the bike controls what is going to happen next. So get yourself a smaller bike at first, it's easy to upgrade when the time comes.

    Hi there. I have been researching the KTM EXC-F bikes and this video is exactly what I was looking for. I have a question for you if you are still answering. I just started riding last year and I have been riding a Yamaha TTR-230. I like in the Pacific North West area in BC, Canada and I ride mostly single track stuff that is tight, rocky, rooty, wet with some mud, and lots of hills. Google Tamahi and Vedder in Chilliwack if you care to see what my area is like. I am 46 and weight about 180lbs with gear. I am only 5'6" with a 30" inseam so I will have no choice but to lower the bike a bit to make it comfortable for me to ride. I want a dual sport so that I can get to the trails from my house but I am undecided about whether I should be on a 250 or a 350. I don't need a pavement rocket so road riding is my last priority. What I am wanting is a bike that will power me up and through all of the areas I ride without having to be heavy on the throttle and revving it high to get torque and power. Based on what I have seen and read on this video I am now leaning towards the 250 EXC-F. Thoughts? I appreciate the input. Great video comparison by the way. Cheers!

    • @jamesunderwood850
      @jamesunderwood850 5 років тому

      Hey Len,
      I'm 185lbs with gear and have a 30" inseam and I have a 2018 500 EXC-F and find it fine with the height of the seat (250's and 350's have the same seat height I believe). I can't flat foot the ground or even close but I just slide my bum off the seat a little to get enough of my foot on the ground to feel comfortable. I wouldn't get one of these bikes and lower it if you're planning on doing a lot of off road riding, the high ground clearance is what makes them great! You'll get used to it in time.
      I live on Vancouver island and ride a lot of single track on it and it's a great bike. Not for the faint hearted, or new rider, but if I were you, I'd get the 350, it has enough power that you won't get bored of it and you'll also pay the same amount of insurance if you get the 350 over the 250, as the insurance in B.C for motorcycles is done by displacement. 125cc - 400cc is the first tier, so the 350 would be my recommendation.
      KTM is doing demo days right now in B.C too, www.ktm.com/ca-en/news/ca/ride-orange-demo-tour/
      James

    just thought I would put out there that the suspension on every single one of these bikes is exactly the same there is nothing different, it's called suspension adjustment not sure if I you've heard of that. don't understand how you can put up a review to try to help potential buyers out there and have your info wrong? and also none of these bikes are for motocross, they are 100% enduro bred bikes.

      +harry tetley Yeah the outer tube and pistons are the same but the shim stacks are a bit stiffer in 4strokes because of their heavier weight. Have you watched EnduroGP? There's always a cross test and a enduro test. The bikes have to be good for both types of riding with minimal changes during the race.
