Musician Vlog / Mia Morris /Ep18 “Live TV Week”/ Nashville Artist, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist

- This vlog consists of a strange week where I played the same live TV morning show three times. One of the tricks with playing morning TV shows is that I’m supposed to be in school at the time. There is a lot of footage of the routine as I repeat it several times but the last appearance has a definite twist. The artist I’m playing for on my last show is... Me! :D
As it turns out, I spend quite a bit of time talking about getting out of class and the finer points of being a hired gun but that’s what my days consist of sometimes. If you watch my vlogs, you may recognize several faces as I’ve played for both Chloe Collins and Jenna McClelland several other times and the other musicians countless times. The two other women in my trio are Sara Keden on bass and Sabel Englert on guitar. They did a fantastic job on very short notice and they are cool chix!
I’m 15 years old and I want to be a professional musician when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time writing and recording. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.

I just want to say thanks Mia for taking us all on this journey of yours. I'm retired now but I'm sure you've inspired many to pursue music and to work hard and have fun doing it. You stay grounded yet soak up all the performances and still have that great smile. In the words of Ringo " It don't come easy ". What a career you have ahead of you. Keep working on that left stick toss lol 😂.
very perceptive on the toss :) I've had to give some more consideration to the left hand lately since I've been playing the stand-up kit more and it's lagging.
Sounds like another notch in your drum stick. Congrats! Had to smile at the 'pro tip' about keeping the attendance office staff happy. There's probably not many musicians working at your level that have to deal with that. Good on ya for keeping your priorities in order. So. Very. Proud. of ya.

Mia thanks for sharing the behind the scenes look at your growth in the music industry. I can appreciate all the time you have put in making these volgs. For us to enjoy. I don't know where you find the time being a full time student and musician. To put these together. It is no small feat. Glad to hear you and your family weren't affected by the tornado. I continue to pray for everyone in Nashville that were affected by this tragedy. That they all have the strength to grieve, recover and rebuild.

Mia. I'll never figure out you find the time. One thing that Most pros have going for them is that it helps a lot to be a really good person with a lot of love. Love for what you do and how you treat other people. One thing Carl Perkins used to ask himself each day was "Did I step on anyone's toes today"? Meaning was I nice to everyone even if I didn't feel like it. You are truly a nice person and because you are, you will go a long way in the music business. Keep working girl.
that sounds like excellent advice to me. I don't get how anyone in this town could get a big head.. there is so much crazy talent. When you can play with 100 people that can all do the job, seems like you'd just pick the ones you like sharing your time with :)

It's great seeing your progression as a musician, and seeing how difficult it is to juggle a full-time education, full-time career,, and the part we don't see much of - the immense amount of practice you must be putting in and time you spend writing your own music. I think you may have blown that sickie you pulled though - I hope that doesn't get you in trouble with the attendance office at school!
I've been getting the impression that everything goes smother when my grade are good :) I have to pick my classes wisely.

Awesome job as always! You've become quite the "Pro" at live tv appearances. And, with 120 different artists last year, you've certainly made it as a "Hired Gun"! You, Sara, and Sable make a good trio, too. They are very good musicians themselves and you work well together. Hopefully you'll be doing more stuff with them. Girl Power!! ! 🤘💖🤘
They just moved to town and are meeting and playing as much as they can. I'm sure I will see them again :)

@@alanbaeth5542 Yes she is and I try to support the younger musicians that still believe in rock and not that techno bs where the computers do all the real work for them. Another young group I like is a family band called Lilliac. They rock! The oldest is 19 and the youngest is only 10! I'm actually a guitarist, but Mia popped on my feed a few years ago and I've been supporting & encouraging her ever since.

It's been pretty smooth with the school so far, mostly because I take my afternoon classes online. I think maybe they count missed classes to add up to a day which makes all the difference for me.

I love the fact that you still get nervous at playing. I've heard of musicians 30 years in the business who still get nervous, so that might never go away. Don't worry though it doesn't affect your playing. Being a great student will also help you with the school attendance people, and I'm sure you are if I remember correctly. Is the standup kit better or just different than a sitdown drum kit? I hope you got to meet John Oats. That would have been a cool part to show. Getting out of school reminds me of the writer Michael Chrichton. He was writing books during medical school and one of them was being made into a movie. So instead of telling the professor someone died like, most people did, he told him the truth. The professor looked at him like, why couldn't you just say someone died like everyone else? It's nice to you bring your Mom to the after gig party where a girls' gotta eat. Give Frisco a pat on the head for me. p.s. sorry, this was so long.
The stand up kit isn't better for strictly playing drums but i'm hoping I can work it into something that is definitely better for playing live and fronting a band. I loose a limb in the process since I have to stand on something but I can move more and play in different ways. I've always thought drums were one of the most interesting instruments to watch played and there usually so hard to see. Any nerves always melt away when I'm playing. It's in-between where I sometimes feel it, but not when I'm prepared, then I just want to get on with it :) - thanks John.

You know it’s just not possible for me to not feel better after watching your videos Mia. You’re uplifting literally all the time. Did you meet John Oates, I’ve always liked his voice. Do you know ‘cajon’ means box in Spanish? And that’s what you play, but with lots of skill and flavor. Keep workin the gigs Mia . Not like I know a damned thing about video production, but in your home studio recorded videos, I think some occasional super slo-mo inserts (especially during the "hairicane" moments) would be outstanding. Maybe like 5-10 FPS? I don't know, but it could be epic. 😃👍🏻👍🏻
