I'm a Motswana born in South Africa, I'm trying to trace the descendants of my grandmother in Namibia, who I'm told she is Damara and their surname was 'Danisibe', they fled during the conflicts in Namibia during the 1900s and came to the north western part of the then Transvaal to a place called Rooiberg in the now called Limpopo Province, how can I trace the Danisbe descendants in Namibia, maybe contact the High Commissioner in Pretoria, how can I be advised ?
interesting. However the people depicted in the video are Nama people of southern Namibia. The Damara people are originally residing around west -central Namibia (Erongo region) were they hold their annual festival. The surname you are referring to should read Daniseb and there are many Damara people with the same surnames even on facebook, which makes it tricky to trace your exact roots. Yes, the High Commission should be able to link you up with institutions in Namibia that can assist you better. We really wish you find your roots.
