    The bat twirling stuff isn’t actually that much of a showboating thing. Every batter has their little quirks that they like to do to stay in rhythm/focus. I used to do the same bat twirl thing when I played mostly because it’s easier to do that instead of holding it up the entire time in the ready to hit position where your arms might get tired, but you also don’t want to just be standing still as a statue because it’s not exactly an athletic position, unless that’s what you want to do. It’s more of a repetition/rhythm thing and I reckon most baseball players aren’t even aware of their quirks most of the time because it’s just done out of habit. This particular hitter was probably being a little extra imo, but to me it seemed like more of way to frustrate the pitcher (and also to show his own frustration) than a showboating thing.

      The hitter was a showboat and he has no business doing it. he should spend that wasted time on practicing to make himself better. The 9 hitter is usually the worst hitter or close to it.

    The nine hole refers to when that player bats in the batting order. A teams best 5 hitters will generally bat 1 through 5 in order to maximize a teams chance of scoring and having those players get additional at bats earlier than the worse hitters. The 9 hole hitter will always be one of the worst offensive players on the team, but many are great fielders and players overall. I don't watch much baseball these days and don't know how good that guy is, but if he is batting 9th it's safe to say that most or all of the other Mariners are better at the plate.

      Question. I don't really know much baseball but aren't batters 1 & 2 normally the best at getting on base and 3 & 4 the best power hitters on a team. Is that right? or am I just making that up?

    Hi guys. Okay, the 9 hole is the batter in the 9th spot in the lineup. The 9th hitter (there are only 9 in the batting order) is usually the weakest hitter. So they were trying to break up Coles rhythm and several players had been stepping out and stuff thru the game. With the new rules to speed up play a batter can have 1 timeout per at bat. Otherwise from the time the pitcher gets the ball back the clock starts, 15 seconds with nobody on base and 20 if there are baserunners on. The batter must be in the box by (sorry having a senior moment, can't remember if it's 8 or 10), then the pitcher must be in his pitching motion before the time expires. If the pitcher is late there is a ball called. If the batter is late getting in the box, then a strike is called. These new rules have changed the game from an avg. of 3 hours to about 2 and a half this season. With some being a good deal quicker than that.

    4:40. It's not a strike. That's what makes baseball interesting in some aspects. The "human element" part with the umpires. Some umpires have a longer vertical strike zone. Some umpires might have a wider horizontal strike zone. You combine that with the way the Catcher can 'frame' a pitch and make balls look like strikes, or the various throwing angles a pitcher can use to give a pitch the illusion that it hit the strike zone, and you can be in for a long night as a batter. Oh and it's all up to the batter to adjust, and the written and unwritten rules say you pretty much aren't supposed to the complain to the umpire about their crappy inconsistent strike zones. Watching 'perfect' umpire games where they don't miss a single call in the game is a thing. Have at it. 🙃

    Daz, you had the nine-hole thing correctly. There's nine batters in each lineup and Caballero was in the ninth spot. He's not a particularly great player. He's good enough to be in the majors but this is his first year at the MLB level and he's not nearly as good as he acts like he is. Maybe as he develops, who knows. Low batting average, almost no power in his bat, OK defender.

    That's the thing about baseball every player has their quirks that help them get focused for a game, but alot of baseball is strategy and small nuances. Like for example keeping each other guessing when pitching or up at bat. If they "just" throw the ball whats keeping the batter from hitting a HR or getting to base, these guys are very capable of throwing ppl out/hitting fast unpredictable pitches ofc ( cause i hear that complaint alot,' just throw the ball.') Or vice versa whats keeping a pitcher from striking you out at bat if you just swing at every pitch. So it's common for the pitcher and batter to try and fake the other out, though its more subtle sometimes.
    Edit: That and whether the particular players/teams have history, some players just being more flagrant etc.

  • @christophermckinney3924
    @christophermckinney3924 6 місяців тому

    A team has nine players active in the game at at time. So 9 players get to bat in an order provided by the coaches to the umpire. The lineups and batting orders are exchanged between the teams. The batting order basically remains the same the entire game. However it can change if a coahc moves one pler from a perticular position on the field and moves anotehr player into that position. But normally the order does not change and if a substitute is made. The subtitution player is plugged into the batting order in the same place as the person he replaced. They go through the batting order from 1 to 9 until the defense gets three batters out. The next inning they pickup in the batting order where they left off. Coaches tend to load the best hitters at the front of the lineup so they'll come up to bat more often. But this often means the bottom of teh order (batterss 7-9) are weak hitters. So if four batters bat in the firs inning, the person batting fifth leads off the second inning. You can bat around the entire order endlessly until the other team gets three outs on you. Then the teams trade off and the offense goes on defense and the defense goes on offense.

  • @emsolo
    @emsolo Рік тому

    The batter has to be in the batter's box ready to hit by 8 seconds in the time clock and can call time out once in his at bat. If he is not ready after the 8 second point, it's a time clock violation and the umpire calls a strike. So, there wasn't really any reason for the pitcher to react the way he did. The batter can do pirouettes if he wants, and pitcher should ignore it and just do his job.

    some thing you said makes me think you don't know this... a foul ball is a strike but can't be your third (final) strike to be out. so if you have one strike an hit it foul its becomes two strikes but if you have two strikes and hit it foul it will not become your last strike. so you can keep hitting it foul all day and not be out.

    Cole is an elite pitcher who usually dominates hitters. What is annoying to Cole is that this hitter is a back-up second baseman who nobody's heard of and he's acting as if he can take him on. He's batting 9th (last in the batting order), the spot for the weakest hitter on the team. It's a beta male strutting around like he's an alpha male. He knows his best chance to succeed is to irritate the better pitcher by changing his rhythm and trying to get in his head. It's the game within the game that makes baseball so beautiful. The body language with the staring, the nodding, the smirking, the stretching, the flexing and the strutting.
