How Decades Of US Sanctions Crushed Iran's Economy

  • Iran appears to be hurtling toward a tipping point. In recent weeks, the Islamic Republic has attacked oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, shot down a U.S. military drone and announced plans to execute 17 suspected U.S. spies. One factor behind the recent moves? Iran's economy is struggling under the weight of U.S. economic sanctions.
The oil-producing country has been the target of U.S. sanctions for decades, and they've taken a major toll on its economy. Inflation is now rampant, and investors remain wary of directing capital to the country.

Iran won't be Venezuela, it has an unemployment rate of 12% despite "crippling" sanctions. They are growing their internal economy and making what they need as much as possible, whereas Venezuela had no production of anything that was not oil.

    • @Maykr__

Venezuela's problem is called Socialism, the country was already in a bad state even before the sanctions or the oil crash.

    • @Maykr__
      @Maykr__ 2 роки тому +14

@@upendo.3570 Norway and Germany are not socialist, they are both capitalist countries.
You saying that Norway is socialist just demonstrates that you have no idea what Socialism is or what Capitalism means, Norway is simply one of the most Capitalist countries in the world, yes Norway is as capitalist as the USA itself. -- Welfare is not socialism, Welfare is simply what the name says, Welfare, the only country in the world that classifies Welfare as Socialism is the USA.
Free healthcare is not socialism, it would be "socialism" if the government prohibited private companies from opening hospitals and clinics, took control over those that already exist and nationalized them, with the government controlling everything in the name of collective ownership of that resource for the common good, this is Socialism and this is what happened in Venezuela.

Reminder that this is the only country who's used nuclear weapons on a population (twice!) and straight up contributed to nuclear proliferation by arming with nukes a nation in an unstable neighborhood that frequently goes to war (Israel, which is also why Iran wants nukes in the first place) judging another country from the moral high ground for seeking nuclear power. Also that the US' fabled concern for 'democracy' didn't extend to supporting the democratic govt. of Iran in the 1950s, which they deposed. And that the current govt. of Iran, whatever its religious overtones, is still far more democratic than some of the US' longest allies (Saudi Arabia, for example). Iran doesn't need to be saintly to make the Americans look like the bad guys here.

And if it was misinformation, why do you care? I live in a free country, and UA-cam is owned by an American company. A country, that also supports free speach.
In another post, you gave me the impression, you are from Saudi Arabia.
If you are, I don't really have anything great to say to you, about your country. In fact, I don't have anything positive to say about your country. It is just as bad, as Iran or even worse. Luckily within the next few decades, your country will become obsolete, when the world no longer need your oil.

@spaks I "spammed" the exact same comment several places, because I didn't change my mind on the subject, in the five minutes that passed. Do you?
Do people get beheaded in your country, for having the same opinion in two separate conversations, with two different group of people?
I'm starting to think, that's the case.
No, I don't like America either, so we can agree on that part. That's why I would never visit the country. I'd rather go visit Iran.
Good luck with the country. As long as the oil money only benefits a few and democracy is not a thing, your country is destined to fail.

If the U.S. or a coalition of nations doesn't like what a particular government is doing, it should find ways of ignoring that government while doing as much business as possible with the population.
I'd like to see an overview of sanctions over time. I'm sure they've occasionally worked, but if Kim Jung Un can still sneak armored Mercedes Benz limos into an embargoed NK, how effective can sanctions really be?
How is it that governments announce they will never be coerced and then base the policies they use to attempt to change the behavior of their adversaries on coercion? Barbara Tuchman sorted out the idiocy of such double standards in The Guns of August.
