My sons 8 is running a cat-less midpipe, Borla cat back exhaust, Typhoon air intake, new stock coils and a coolant flush. lol. The coolant flush with fresh antifreeze gave him the most gains. lol. 60mile stock motor. Like a clock. Winter driver!
Mine has versatuner tunes made by myself, AEM intake, ported and cleaned both plastic and aluminium intakes, cat delete, air pump delete, japspeed catback, AEM coils, stock fw but ceramic clutch and DS fuel pump. Every mod added noticeable power/torque (obviously coming out of the tunes) but the fuel pump made the difference. The car throws 247 break hp and 174 ft/lb torque (engine has 9000 miles on it so it makes sense), and I'm still planning on putting a couple of torqamp electric chargers on it, which will give it way more than it already has. But I'm really very happy with what I achieved, considering that I bought it with the exhaust and ported intakes, and just had to do the clutch, AEM intake and coils, and buy vt and learn how to use it 🤣
Really looking forward to this series. My 2009 survivor is stock as can be. Only "mod" I have is one of those fuel cap holders by Bennett Built. One thing on my radar is maybe BHR coils & wires one day. I hope to do that around 20K miles (only 16K right now). I have thought about a Racing Beat catback but that's a bit pricey for what is basically just a sound mod. I'm kinda boring as I like to keep my cars stock and very well preserved.
This will be FUN to watch!! Thanks… I think you may have a new Patreon subscriber/follower in me. I am learning to work and maintain a new to the family RX8 and your videos really “speak” to me.
Please do a video on fuel injectors replacement / servicing for the rx8 ...there are no videos on this area available ...great videos btw , keep up the good work 👍
I have an 04 RX8 Touring., first owner. Babied it from day1 and I hate to say this but my passion for speed is not setting with my body now, on my 50’.. I want more because it’s so much low on the BB.. All original parts, just replaced tire and spark ones.. Anyone interested let me know. I just want to keep this baby to a real passionate owner.. Around 32k only, mostly highway weekend ride..
I would recommend BHRs RX-8 parts. I have an RX-8 running their ignition coils and catless resonated midpipe. Can definitely recommend the midpipe it sounds very good.
LS coils aren't so they're made out to be, they struggle to perform at their best on standard dwell timing plus they're no good for the high duty cycles in a rotary, they're just cheap and readily available. The clutch pedal should have about 1/2 inch free play, this is adjusted at the pedal, a royal pain in the arse when you get a little older!
Tip for the rx8 clutch use motol brake fluid worked great on the track and daily... Also SPEED BLEADER for clutch is a life saver! Loosen once pump until your happy close and your done!
Looking forward to the Dyno videos, curious what power it will make with LS coils and the AEM intake with no tune. My RX-8 has DC8 LS coils, a cheap modified cold air intake and a ryan rotary clean oil feed adapter.
I'm super interested in the dyno numbers. I'm currently only running the racing beat rev8 catback and still have the catalytic converter. Stock everything else. I'd be interested to see catless numbers, headers, and catback as well. Also intakes could be interesting as well. From what everyone says on the RX8 forums is that the factory is still pretty much the best "cold air intake" just because of how it is designed. Looking forward to that though 👍
I've been trying to figure out if it's time to change out coils on an otherwise completely stock 04 6-port RX-8. I've had one misfire code at high rpm. Since it seems like an LS coil kit is the same price as OEM coils, I've been leaning that direction. I'll be interested to see your results.
I like the Dyno idea. It will kill soo many myths. Dyno the Racing beat products since they claim horsepower gains and are very transparent about the impact their mods make.
Looking forward to seeing you tinker with versatuner. I enjoy messing around with it, I'm roughly making a new tune every week just for trial and error and fun.
look into the wipe on clear coat from Poppy's Patina. Looking hard at it for the truck and would save you hours with wrapping. That yellow loud car jab hurt lol
The switch that it on the top of the clutch pedal is giving me problems. (not the starter switch) the other one. When I let the clutch go the idol starts to surge (in neutral of course) but if I remove the switch from its position and tuck it out of the way so it doesn't get depressed then the idol is smooth. Any suggestions or advice? I replaced the reverse and neutral switch on the trans already.
Love the channel. I've been watching for a few months. I had a guy give me a 2009 rx8 grand touring 6 speed. I got it expecting to rebuild it. He said it wouldn't idle once it warmed up. I put ½ qt of marvels mystery oul into a ¼ tank of fuel. I let it idle for an hour and then drove it around beating the piss out of it. Now it runs, drives & idles just fine & also now starts without giving it any throttle....?. I am having 2 check engine lights for both knock sensors p0332 & p0327. Both are plugged in & wiring looks perfect. Any ideas? I didn't fi d an email contact for you, so I had to send this here. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!
No misfires. Just the 2 knock codes & it did have a intake valve code but I got it freed up & that code did not come back. Makes good power & drives well. The car has 215k miles but got a new engine installed by the dealer at 118k miles.
Update..... drove it for 50 miles last night & the check engine light went off! Heck yeah. It still takes 3-5 seconds to start (now I don't need to give any throttle). I did order a set of ls coils which should help crank time. Car rips around pretty good. I was surprised how quick it is. Good luck on the rally adventure! Super jealous
I bought coils/wires from BHR and it made my car feel alive again. Also start ups are far faster now. i was having misfires before hand, so it was time to replace. my cars compression is in the mid to high 6's but seems like 7s again It does cost a bit more than a full kit with with REV C coils. I would recommend
I have BHR coils as well. It was like a different car after installing them. They're pricey but have a reputation for longevity that beats the stock or Ls coils. 15k on them and still going strong.
I love 8's so much I bought a second one. The only cars that never break are Corvettes owned by 80 year olds who never drive them.
I would like a second one also. I would like to leave it mostly stock

I love Rads passion on this tech car.. I wish I still have the same.. I can’t keep myself from watching your video ..😊
This video was very well put together, for whatever reason it stood out to me!
The first test i would do is put in the the K & N air filter and see if you get that 5hp 😊

Nice find on all the issues. Looking forward to seeing the dyno numbers
Pretty sure most times an intake was put on it dropped the power exhaust on the other hand should help.

Maybe some light weight pullies to see if you get any difference in feel acceleration or maybe a s2 rear diff
The well hose water turning black had me so confused at first 😂
I thought so too. "Damn, is it that dirty? No way, that yellow paint hiding so much dirt," and turns out it's the water😂
mods: lightweight! but still a street car. maximum efficiency through good bolt-ons and light weight. lighter wheels, exhaust, brakes, battery... etc

been waiting or an update on the yellow rx8
Wrap it!!! I have been wanting to try a wrap on one of my FB s
Interested how much catalytic converter saps the power
Great Plan! looking forward to seeing the progress!

Definitely a lot of debate but I think the Rev C OEM or BHR coils is the way to go

STL gang, I'll race you in my Shinka 😅
Plan sounds super exciting xD

Super excited for this!
Paint?? Why not cut and buff? I bet it would clean up great!
Would definitely look good after a paint correction. Just depends on how much is left
Paint is all checked up. It wouldn't buff.
Blessings from Puerto Rico 😊
Just seafoam the gas and see if they act the same as the cleaned injectors.
you can adjust the clutch pedal under the dash
I've alway been curious about how much exhaust mods give you back. Maybe add headers to that list with the midpipe?
look into the wipe on clear coat from Poppy's Patina. Looking hard at it for the truck and would save you hours with wrapping. That yellow loud car jab hurt lol
Top effort keeping it Rad .
Keep it up bro
I really want to see a supercharged rx8 or a hybrid na build track ripper!!!
Nice vid! Do have part info for the brake reservoir adapter that you could share?
It's the exact same as the cap for the C6 corvette

You ever dealt with marbles in a can? Anyone????
What about a SOHN adapter?
I've never ran one. But sure!

amazing what a good carbon cleaning could do. I have never seen a knock sensor code. Did you get any misfires while doing the marvel burn?

Yellow RX8 aka Pikachu 😂
DO NOT wrap the 8s …. The paints really shitty and it will peel up ….. ask me how I know … plus paint has alot more longevity
Rebuild
Rew engine. Best mod 🤭
Ooh I thought of 1, can AI tune your car?
I love your channel, and I respect your work, but that yellow has to go. It looks terrible. Yellow does not suit the shape of the RX8.
