@@nuttycorns9705 I use Adobe illustrator to seperate the layers and save and import into after effects. There are tons of tutorial about that in UA-cam. You can check them out.

I got it! That's because you doesn't followed the tutorial correctly :) 3:12 here I've duplicated the logo and 5:08 - I've animated the opacity here. I think you might missed this step. There is also an alternative way to fix this. you can parent the stroke layer to the logo layer. If you don't know how to parent layer check this out: helpx.adobe.com/in/after-effects/how-to/animating-with-parenting.html
If the logo overlaps, we have to split that layer and animate each, it's more complicated to show up in the tutorial, may be I will upload another video about it.
You probably have a layer selected in the timeline. When a layer is selected the pen tool defaults to mask mode. Deselect all layers before choosing the pen tool and see if that works.
@@morbidp it's been a year to this but I had found another way to improve my animation and delivered it to the client as a freebie along with the other project that I got paid for. The client loved it! :)

right click the area above your layers, select columns, and make sure "modes" is selected! There ya go :)

Had the same problem. Right click above the layers and go to columns and activate mode. This should help.
