    Welcome to Me Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Kristen Wiig Movie HD
    What happens when a young woman with Borderline Personality Disorder wins the lottery? In the case of Alice Klieg (Kristen Wiig), she quits her psychiatric meds and buys her own talk show. Inspired by the immortal Oprah, she broadcasts her dirty laundry as both a form of exhibitionism and a platform to share her peculiar views on everything from nutrition to relationships to neutering pets. Also starring Wes Bentley, James Marsden, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Linda Cardellini.

    The trailer does not do justice, this movie is amazing and it's honestly sad how overlooked had been this movie because Kristen Wiig is AMAZING in it. It's a way more deeper performance and and a way more complex character than I expected, both comic and dramatic, it's way more than a "quirky" "funny" girl and it's actually really moving.

    I have bpd and I think that the representation of borderline in this movie is accurate. Bpd is different in each person, but I think that the movie captures some of the nuances of the disorder. Mood swings, rapid identity shifts, mirroring an ideal, impulsiveness, stormy relationships--all without sexualizing or romanticizing the disorder, unlike Girl, Interrupted, which I thought would be the only film to attempt to represent people like me.

    Please, if you watch this movie, keep in mind that BPD is a serious illness. While it may seem funny to some people that the main character (Alice) has frequent meltdowns, remember that the emotions felt by people with BPD are very real and painfully intense. In real life, Alice would be dealing with extreme amounts of emotional distress in many of the "funny" scenes of this movie. I'm fortunate enough to be graduating from DBT soon, so BPD no longer affects me to the extent that it does many sufferers. However, many people with Borderline don't have access to treatment and are still in a state of emotional distress similar to Alice's. Our illness is not your punchline. Plus, let's be real here... they tried a little /too/ hard to make her seem "crazy." I haven't met a single person with BPD who actually acts the way she does

    • @ZyxthePest
      @ZyxthePest 8 років тому +18

      Julia Lesmerises I think you have to trust that most people are smart enough to know the difference between movies and real life. I find it troubling that so many PC-minded are concerned with the images they see in film and television, rather than the many things going on in the real world that need this kind of addressing. Movies are an escape, with small slices of truth in them, they're not meant to be a literal representation of the world around us.

    • @moniquevamado
      @moniquevamado 8 років тому +9

      Yes, it has. If you want to read an amazing true story of someone who had and overcame BPD, read a book called 'Get Me Out of Here.' Someone I love has this and it is a very painful and confusing illness for both the sufferer and those who love the sufferer.

    • @moniquevamado
      @moniquevamado 8 років тому +6

      That's excellent that you have overcome so much of it. That is a major victory, Julia! I have always liked Kristen Wiig... not just as an actress but a person. This film looks like one that's worth watching but I cannot help but notice the obvious sad undertones. Wiig's character is suffering from bipolar disorder and as the case has been so many times in our sad, ugly reality, the greedy bloodhounds of the media try to exploit her for their own gain.

    • @nicolleashlynn
      @nicolleashlynn 9 років тому +4

      Livingston Hampton Where did you see Bipolar? It clearly states Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD does not stand for Bipolar. But I agree with you that she should not have been labeled as such by the media. I haven't seen the movie, but it looks like she's more quirky and "out there." That's not BPD.

    • @xyPERSON
      @xyPERSON 9 років тому

      nicolleashlynn You're right... I mistakenly said bipolar when I meant to say Borderline Personality Disorder.

    • @cinesimonj
      @cinesimonj 9 років тому +3

      nicolleashlynn It's not? What is BPD? Clearly you - and may other on this board - see yourself as an expert. Funny thing, I know a lot people who have spent decades studying BPD, and even they would not profess to be experts. BPD isn't that kind of a thing. But I'm sure you know better.

    • @nicolleashlynn
      @nicolleashlynn 9 років тому +4

      cinesimonj I have identified with the Borderline Personality Disorder community for over 13 years. I've studied it for over 13 years. It is not Bipolar Disorder. I also never claimed to be an expert on the subject, but I do know about it because I've researched it for so long. All I claimed was that BPD does not stand for Bipolar and quirkiness is not a symptom of the disorder. Livingston Hampton did not take offense to my comment, so why are you? Girl, Interrupted is the most accurate movie about BPD in my opinion. Probably because it was based off a real person and her story living with it while being in a mental ward. I came to this thread because I heard about this new movie and wanted to watch the trailer to decide if I wanted to watch the movie. The trailer frankly annoyed me so I won't be watching the movie. The lead character in this movie (according to the trailer) does not suffer from BPD, in my opinion.

    • @xyPERSON
      @xyPERSON 9 років тому +2

      ***** After watching the film I'm more inclined to agree with you. My only issue is that even though they did give her what she paid for, they were well aware of the risk of allowing a mentally unstable person to be on the air. The network was obviously desperate for ratings and despite her condition it saw her as a ratings booster.

      Kara Barbieri Wince. I have it too and the portrayal is incredibly inaccurate and offensive. I realize it's a comedy but they should have kept the diagnosis out of it. I have seen the movie. She is NOTHING like a person with BPD off their meds. Films like this just spread more ignorance.

    • @jimbeam4140
      @jimbeam4140 9 років тому +32

      ***** BPD has absolutely nothing to do with multiple personalities. Regardless, it's an incredibly hurtful thing to say to someone. It's clear you have some serious emotional issues of your own.

    • @jimbeam4140
      @jimbeam4140 9 років тому +21

      ***** Actually it was a stupid joke that showed your complete lack of knowledge about the illness. As for it being harmless, how would you know? Do you have it? One of the issues with borderlines is their extreme sensitivity so it's not like you're dealing with an average person when it comes to making jokes. Besides, would you make a joke about Cancer in the middle of a group of Cancer patients? The survival rate for people with BPD is worse than some cancers. 10% of people with BPD will kill themselves. Idiot!

    • @xition25
      @xition25 9 років тому +4

      Jim Beam yeah except this is the internet not a cancer ward. Her joke was not that offensive, bdp might be sensitive people but her comment was no where near the horrible things you can find around here. So go learn to take a joke because there is a lot worse out there or simply get off the youtube comments.

    • @jimbeam4140
      @jimbeam4140 9 років тому +13

      ***** No it's not a Cancer ward but pretend for a minute that this was a VIDEO about something to do with Cancer. If someone made an ignorant joke about Cancer patients, the offending joker would be taken to task by EVERYONE in the thread. I have seen similar things happen all the time on Reddit when someone makes a joke in poor taste about something sensitive.
      More importantly as bad as internet behaviour is what you're doing right now is defending it. You are actually defending really insensitive cruel and extremely cowardly behaviour just because it happens to be on the internet. Ultimately that makes YOU just as much of an ass as the person making the joke. I mean seriously, I hope you're an adolescent because only someone who is 14 should be defending internet behaviour.

      Yeah I laughed at how ridiculous and pathetic they made the character, then I remembered that BPD has many faces. None of us will look alike which is why it's such a complex disorder to define. Being you can have a combination to choose from 250 traits + comorbidity with other disorders. All that to say, I just view it as one person diagnosed with BPD and nothing more. Your diagnosis is dependent upon who you meet regardless. Each 'professional' will likely give you a different diagnosis because it's all based on their limited perspective of you.

      N9E3W This movie may not be a totally accurate portrayal of someone with BPD, but as someone who has been recently liberated from a relationship with a BPD "sufferer," it looks like a revenge fantasy come true. I can hardly wait to see it.

    • @LegalVampire
      @LegalVampire 9 років тому +32

      N9E3W This trailer isn't saying it's not a serious mental illness...? It's not doing anything to make the illness look silly and it's not poking fun at it - it's just trying to do a portrayal of someone with the disorder. Everyone experiences illnesses differently, so just because you may not be like the character doesn't mean other people with BPD aren't.

    This is what happens when you get a brilliant script. Every one of these actors is absolutely f*cking sublime in this, especially Kristen and Joan Cusack.

    I lived with someone for 17 years with BPD. It really is nooo laughing matter. Its an extreme roller coaster that starts over everyday. You never know what to expect,then it changes the next day. I haven't sen the movie, but the trailer looks wayyy off. Kristen Wiig is talented. I may have to go see it.

    This is the most innacurate portrayal of BPD.. My partner is a Borderline and I may not be a BPD but this is soooo wrong. BPDs look and speak normally, theyre the master of disguise. If this was described as a film about a woman with a mental illness then yes but labelling it BPD is so very wrong. If youre going to try and label any illness then be accurate with it. This has not just offended me but it has also offended my partner. Its despicable to put a wrong reputation like this on an illness that is already so stigmatized and judged.

    • @fauvecorrigan1233
      @fauvecorrigan1233 9 років тому +5

      missnady123 Two points. 1.You say you know one person with "BPD" as you call it. So that makes you an expert? 2.You evidently missed the point where she makes the point that she has been diagnosed several times with different disorders and this is her current one. It is a joke on the psychiatric industry, not bipolar so stop getting so personal about it

    • @neonnights98
      @neonnights98 8 років тому +2

      Yeah I agree, I'd actually go so far as to say a lot of her awkwardness and inappropriate behaviour is characteristic of autism. But her emotional overwhelm and mood swings are typical of BPD. It's quite unclear. I have both of these and yet people tell me I pass as normal and they assume I'm nt, but that's probably because so much of my energy is invested in monitoring myself constantly and feigning behaviours that people seem to be drawn to. Wiig's character lacks that self-awareness. I'd say she has both BPD and autism, but due to the fact that she's so emotionally stunted and socially inept, she can't regulate her behaviours to pass as normal.

    As explained in the film. She gets diagnosed first as a child and is moved through a series of disorders. The one they have settled on in the present of her story is bi polar. The story is very much a dark comedy that celebrates and recognises those who have personality disorders
    Just one other thing I want to say about this is in response to alot of people who think this isnt how they behave. One has to remember, she is nearly 40 here and has fucked up badly enough that she lives alone and watches Opera. There is no anger, manipulation or violence left because there is no one to direct it at. It is really very sad and its worth paying due attention to the various nuances in the film to truly appreciate it.
