Chromatically Ravel was a breath of fresh air. I love the reprise of themes at the end. He got a lot of stick from academics for this kind of thing as it was perceived as vulgar at the time, but he was showing how music can knock down walls. (And smash windows sometimes!)

The ending arpeggios are so wispy and the last chord so light it makes one wonder why orchestras are so ponderous with this music. Wonderful!

What a marvelous recording. The reverb from those instruments (not sure if it's for four hands or two pianos) is just divine!

If it’s for four hands it would be Rachmaninoff or mutations.
