I think Essendon are a team that plays up to the level of strong teams, but also plays down to the level of weaker teams. If they can manage to play their better footy against weaker teams and bank some percentage, they could be a really dangerous team.

It was a completely different side - they played out of their skin and if were playing like that every week would easily be in the 8. Sydney had a shocker in the wake of some off field issues and still only lost by less than a goal. Was a black swan event for probably both sides to be honest.

Port's win over Geelong feels very very similar to the Sydney win in 2023. Not saying it'll kickstart another 13 in a row for us, but producing something like that without our captain or a proper ruckman definitely has the feel that we could actually fight for a grand final spot, not to mention of course it straight up being one of the greatest victories in our AFL history

Honestly Richmond being so poor is probably a blessing for them. Going after Hopper and Taranto in the 2022 trade period suggested they thought they could top up and go again, whereas their results this year suggest they are falling off the post dynasty cliff. Finishing 17th rather than 10th could force them to properly rejuvenate, rather than getting stuck treading water for the next few years. 1 step back, 2 steps forward.

Before the season started was full of confidence that Saints would make finals with a couple additions and some polish but boy I was wrong we don’t have enough older leaders that stand up in games and the kids are still learning a dysfunctional forward line that has stunk for the last 3 years I like Ross but things got to change I’m tired of watching some players with no heart.

Essendon is in an unusual position; third place on the ladder with a percentage below 100 - many small wins and a couple of big losses plus the draw. For a number of years now, Essendon are not very good at beating lowly placed teams and winning well. They never thrash them and never get a percentage boost; at the end of the year it can make a difference in final spot of the ladder.
Given the next two games are against last and second last teams; it would give me a new level of confidence if they could beat these sides by a combined 100 points or more. I may be asking too much of the Bombers and don't expect it to happen but Essendon still need to prove that when the wind starts blowing their way that they can take full advantage of it.
Apart from Carlton there is also a trip to play Gold Coast coming up and a home game against West Coast so would like Essendon to win 4 of the next 5 games to set up a run in the finals.

Every week there is an excuse for why Sydney won - normally blaming the other side for playing crap. This week is the one round where it is genuinely justified, Freo playing in the wake of the news would have been very tough. Having said that Sydney are scary good. Blues will be a good test.

I thought O'Brien was good against Brisbane...a team they should have beaten. Yeah, McHenry is better of as a sub put in the game in the final quarter. Otherwise Sam Berry is a better option. I don't know why they don't give that guy more game time, he's probably their best tackler. Murphy's ok....gotta love the guy for nearly having his head taken off, resulting in a Dawson free kick goal and '22 Showdown win!
