What an odyssey of suck and glory! Really low lows and really good highs to balance it all out. You will look back on this day, tell, the stories and laugh. Such days make the best trail stories. There is no way I’d worry about the 30 miles. You can always go,back and hike it later. Most of the service roads here in the East are forest service roads cut in for logging in the past. Walking on the uneven gravel is painful and walking on asphalt pure hell. My hat’s off to you!!
That's quite a magical day! Way to go! Please be careful with the cuts on your feet from the shoes. Quadzilla is on the AT and had to get off for 11 days because of severe infection caused by his shoe cutting his heel open! Whodda thunk!? Crazy stuff. No one is going to fuss about skipping over a fire closure. You can't hike the whole way on major highways, that's not safe, or any fun. First rule of thru hiking is don't die. Second rule is have fun. Be safe!
I really admire what you are doing. Your friend has actually used maps creatively to craft an alternate route. This is the essence of long distance hiking.
Wow! What a fantastic accomplishment. Such determination. I’ve been watching the fire saga knowing the scope of what y’all are facing as my B I L has been in Oregon almost 2 weeks working as a liaison with the fire crews. He is a retired Forester, a Ranger but now puts himself on call to work the fires. It is still bad . It’s amazing to me how you even could figure out how to reroute. God’s blessings to you all, I know the videos are behind but praying you all are able to get to Canada. This 60 year old Nay Nay- grandma has been loving your videos and your beautiful smiles and your extreme talent. Love the paintings.
I teared up at your determination, your teamwork at making difficult decisions and most of all you still find ways to smile. Life lesson we all need I this world today!!!💜🩵
Words elude me, you are AMAZING. In pain and struggling you pushed through and got so many miles in. Happy you enjoyed Trail Magic several times. Keep safe.
After bushwhacking down the final hill you dropped down into the Shasta Valley. You’re correct, good people live there including some of our family. Stay safe.
You all are AWESOME! you are my heroes. That road walking must be hard on your bodies, not as yielding as a dirt path. How you managed to keep going I cannot comprehend. I can only imagine what bliss a real bed will be. Look after yourselves ❤
On US Forest Service lands many roads were made for access for logging. All USFS are covered like that. You will probably use some up north to maintain a continuous footpath. I have used them to escape fires. Roads also accessed mining ckaims.
Roadrunner sent me. Y'all are killin' it!! If you lose your continuous foot path, no fault there. Your safety is priority. I know y'all are probably way past this part by now. Stay safe and you have earned your Herculean crowns!
Disappointing and frustrating to skip, but sometimes natural events take these decisions out of your hands. You stuck to your guns as long as you could. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. A month from now it won’t matter. You guys rock, pain and all.
Yes yes yes. Hike what you can of the trail you chose to hike. This makes so much more sense than walking roads. I’m glad for your choice. It’s hard to mentally let go of a detail you’re proud of attempting to accomplish, But nature will do what she will and adjusting to her whims is the smart decision.
Geez, tough day. I felt for you guys today and hope things improve for you, and quick. Thanks for the hoodie explanation. I asked the question and now I totally understand. Your skin could turn to leather by the time you get to Canada without protection.
Safety Always First. Continuous Footpath only applies when there’s a reasonable ability to control. I wouldn’t stress on mileage. Makes perfect since to safely move past the fire and then hopefully be able to enjoy your hike. You guys are doing great, videos are wonderful. You’re in my prayers for safety. Let’s get Susie some new shoes 👟
Keep going! I love watching you push through the challenges. The fires are always a tough thing to deal with on the trail. I saw so many hikers skip around Nor Cal during the fires in those years. I respect you two trying to maintain one continuous foot path. My home state of Oregon is blazing right now. I hope you get to see that section around Crater lake and Three Sisters in all of its smoke free glory by the time you get here. I can feel how tired and worn you are but finally getting out of Cali after so much time will lift your spirits so much. I am reliving my thru hikes by your videos...Thank you!!........HEISENBERG
I would not worry about the footpath....stay safe....there are over 400 wildfires in BC and Jasper township...half of the town is gone!!!! Love your videos...Hike ON!!! 😊
First time seeing tumble weed tumble 😂😂 I’m hoping to purchase one of those hoodies because I want to do longer hikes without worrying about sun damage.
I just came back to CA from OR and there are fires all over OR. You may want to skip up to Cascade Locks and finish WA. Then come back down and finish OR. Do a flip flop. The only place in WA that is impassable right now is through stehekin. I'm sure there's a go around for that section.
I gave you 2 a ride from Ashland to the Siskiyou Pass. I saw you 2 today walking along Hwy 97 just north of Chemult. I hope you are able to get back on the PCT and have a "normal" hike.
Mole skin would help out tremendously with your feet and blister issues, helped me during my 29 year Wildland firefighting career I made sure I always had some on each roll (fire assignment).
I really appreciate your videos. You share a realistic view of the trail experience. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this, but take care of your feet. You are killing the miles in challenging circumstances, but It seems like shoes continue to be an issue. I hope you can find a solution soon.
Just a thought, you may want to put reflective tape on your backpacks so that when you’re walking on the roads like that so oncoming cars can see you or cars coming up from behind you
At least this area is near a home base for you. You can come back later in the fall or next year and do it. I guess Roadrunner and Somewhere only missed about 1.5 miles of footpath, which considering all the long reroutes is nothing. I think the PCTA talks about "2600 milers" anyway, so you have about 53 miles of wiggle there. 😄
Road walking kills my feet more than the trail for sure. My opinion is get out and move up. You can always go back to connect it when it’s safe. Try not to overthink it. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Curious why not slack pack after meeting up with Bird Calls sister? Also ,I've taped a piece of plastic (from a plastic bottle) over a spot on my foot that was rubbing, when 1,000 bandaids weren't working.
Hopefully when you get to Oregon you will be back on the trail. Really bummed to hear your newish shoes are falling apart. Do you think you might go back to Altras?
I see you use I movie to edit your video and that is what I use but while on trail only able to edit when there is cell service. Is that the case with you and do you find that you have good coverage to do that and what is your service provider?
Honestly, there was a lot of troubleshooting with iMovie. I mostly used iMovie because that is what I was familiar with. In the future, I may switch to a different editing system. Often times when I didn’t have service, I had to troubleshoot how to get my videos to load.
Wow, RR didn't show that part of the trail may have been in private property. Glad you didn't get kicked out. You didn't want to take them up on that shower?
Well. Road walking can be very boring. Also better to do route around than see flames. Keep your spirits up. Nothing worse than walking on a sore feet. OUCH! CHAFING.
My Topos got about 500 miles on them which I felt like was really good. Honestly, I think the mountain 3 racers are a great shoe. I just ended up having a lot of blisters probably due to amount of miles we were doing. However, I never seem to get blisters in Altras.
I permanently quit wearing short sleeve shirts because the sun has made my arms look like they belong on someone 30 years older. Wear long sleeves while gardening and with a hooded mosquito shirt.

Discussion about the bad effects of the sun's rays is very important. Glad you did!!
The amazing kindness of strangers is so heartwarming. You guys are crushing it!
That's quite a magical day! Way to go!

Service roads are for logging, mines, fire fighters, recreational access. Things like that.
I really admire what you are doing. Your friend has actually used maps creatively to craft an alternate route. This is the essence of long distance hiking.

A little something to lift your spirits.
🥰🥰🥰 thank you so much!!
I teared up at your determination, your teamwork at making difficult decisions and most of all you still find ways to smile. Life lesson we all need I this world today!!!💜🩵
Knowing those fires are burning and hearing that wind is just alarming. Stay safe.
Words elude me, you are AMAZING. In pain and struggling you pushed through and got so many miles in. Happy you enjoyed Trail Magic several times. Keep safe.

People are so awesome!!! Just when you needed it! What a blessing!
On US Forest Service lands many roads were made for access for logging. All USFS are covered like that. You will probably use some up north to maintain a continuous footpath. I have used them to escape fires. Roads also accessed mining ckaims.
That was the coolest Trail magic ive ever seen!
I know right?! Thanks for watching!

That tumbleweed is not lost on me. 😊 that episode was rough to watch.cant imagine hiking it. 😮
🥰 💨🍃

You guys are just a precious rag tag band of hikers. Brutal day, hope you guys are doing well wherever you are!
What a video. It was like watching and feeling 3D pain. Now a new hiker to the crew 🎉🎉
You are so awesome, I am still convinced that you will walk the whole way to Canada.

So so incredible you three are!!! Love all your videos and your dedication to your goals of writing and art. Just stay safe. Smoky day in Ashland.
I would not worry about the footpath....stay safe....there are over 400 wildfires in BC and Jasper township...half of the town is gone!!!!
Love your videos...Hike ON!!! 😊
Thank you 🥰
I love the realness ❤🎉
good job guys! pavement miles are hard.
Great video!! Water is essential for muscle repair so keep chugging that H2O!!! Stay safe!
You guys are beyond awesome! Staying committed to your trail goals will take you along life, prepared for challenges and crushing them!
First time seeing tumble weed tumble 😂😂
I’m hoping to purchase one of those hoodies because I want to do longer hikes without worrying about sun damage.
I LOVE the sun hoodies. Wouldn’t hike without them.

Hope your heel is better Boss Bae. What a drag to have to be on the road, and getting offers for rides. Keep going for the book~
What a bleepin’ day ‼️ You guys are strong in the midst of trial! Thank goodness for the trail angels and Megan!
You guys are awesome
Be safe. You're almost in Cadana. You're over half way there. Go go go 🤟🏼👍🏼😎🤠
I gave you 2 a ride from Ashland to the Siskiyou Pass. I saw you 2 today walking along Hwy 97 just north of Chemult. I hope you are able to get back on the PCT and have a "normal" hike.
Awesome!! Glad to have you along. Thanks for the ride! 😊
Thanks!
Wow!! Thank you so much! 😊
You guys are amazing 😮
🥰
You just are so so awesome!! That loooooong day. ❤
Sometimes, u just have to do what u can. I love that u guys aren't being so purist that ur paralyzed. Gotta keep moving. Gosh, I miss tumbleweeds 😄 🐻🌲
I think you guys are making wise choices
Walking through cow pastures and farm roads is more than avoiding cow patties. Its getting free snacks, drinks and rides.
Mole skin would help out tremendously with your feet and blister issues, helped me during my 29 year Wildland firefighting career I made sure I always had some on each roll (fire assignment).
Pretty country despite tough road walk. And pretty horses!
Long walk day but that trail magic was amazing! Take care and keep an eye on the Air Quality Index. Be safe. Happy trails! 🥾🥾
Hello! I’m new here, Roadrunner sent me! Great video!
Sending love ❤
I sure hope you did that skip so you don’t miss anymore of the pct! Keeping your walking prayer. Stay safe.
BREAKING TRAIL, LETS GO!
Thanks 🙏
I really appreciate your videos. You share a realistic view of the trail experience. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this, but take care of your feet. You are killing the miles in challenging circumstances, but It seems like shoes continue to be an issue. I hope you can find a solution soon.

That’s a good idea! Thank you!
Yall are awesome! Oregon is on fire too. I hope you can get around everything and still do as much pct as possible. ❤
At least this area is near a home base for you. You can come back later in the fall or next year and do it. Way to hang in there. Stay safe.
There's traces of wildfire smoke here in western Kentucky!
Road walking kills my feet more than the trail for sure. My opinion is get out and move up. You can always go back to connect it when it’s safe. Try not to overthink it. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Do you think the soreness could be from smoke inhalation? When my sinuses are even a little messed up I get body aches. Such a terrible feeling.
Perhaps though it is hard to tell, thanks for following us along 🥰
16 hours hiking is a lot😮
Curious why not slack pack after meeting up with Bird Calls sister?
Also ,I've taped a piece of plastic (from a plastic bottle) over a spot on my foot that was rubbing, when 1,000 bandaids weren't working.
Thanks for the tip! 🥰
😂😂😂 honestly we just didn’t think about it. I guess we were tired.
I'm curious if the PCT has fires like you are experiencing every year? Either way just think of the stories you will tell years from now
Hopefully when you get to Oregon you will be back on the trail. Really bummed to hear your newish shoes are falling apart. Do you think you might go back to Altras?
Thanks so much for following along. Yes I ended up switching back to Alters, though I had to add an an extra insert
yall need to find an old pram or pushchair for yr gear on the road walking bits
I see you use I movie to edit your video and that is what I use but while on trail only able to edit when there is cell service. Is that the case with you and do you find that you have good coverage to do that and what is your service provider?

Wow, RR didn't show that part of the trail may have been in private property. Glad you didn't get kicked out.
You didn't want to take them up on that shower?
Poor Bird Call, worst luck with underwear
"If you ain't first ur last "
Well. Road walking can be very boring. Also better to do route around than see flames. Keep your spirits up. Nothing worse than walking on a sore feet. OUCH! CHAFING.
I wonder why sis didn’t slack pack you guys. ???
😂 we honestly didn’t think about that until later. Then we laughed!!
How old are your Topo’s? That back of the shoe falling apart seems to be a problem. Even though I love my Topo that’s the most irritating thing.
My Topos got about 500 miles on them which I felt like was really good. Honestly, I think the mountain 3 racers are a great shoe. I just ended up having a lot of blisters probably due to amount of miles we were doing. However, I never seem to get blisters in Altras.

I’d suggest a flip flop
Head to Canada and hike back
Oregon is going to burn until October and there are several fire closures in Washington too😕
The PCT was never closed thru the fire Roadrunner was reporting.
Thanks!
Thank you 🥰🥰
