What is an AC Line Filter?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- In almost every electronic you own, you can find an AC line filter. KEMET's Filed Application Engineer teaches us the best way to filter out the noise coming from your electronics using AC Line Filters.

Best explanation of common-mode and differential noise filtering and exactly which chokes/inductors to use and why. Thanks!
Thanks, Mike! We're glad you're watching. You can keep up with our latest news by following the KEMET Circuit at go.kemet.com/jointhecircuit/
Years ago a customer brought me a VCR for repair with a shorted AC line filter of this type, I temporarily jumped it with a straight piece of wire and the VCR fuse kept blowing. Apparently this filter/choke was also helping slow the in-rush current,
Great thanks for sharing KEMET Electronics
thanks for info , had been tossing out some of the dual chokes....
Thanks for the video. I also see that there are systems using both line FILTER and line REACTOR together. How are their functions different from each other and supporting each other?
Thank You! 😁
Thanks!
So what solution did you bring to consumer market, do you have product?
i have a PC and Air conditioner connected to the same outlet circuit so i get interference in my pc microphone especially when attached to a gaming console, probably the gaming console has a worse line filter in its power supply, how do i understande if the interference is common or differtial and what can i buy to filter the whole outlet for eliminating this air conditioner EMI? thanks
i get a random pop on my subwoofer even when the radio is off but the amp is plugged in.
Awesome! tyty
ywyw! Glad you found the video useful!
Are emi filter inductor can improve audio quality?
Hi Kemet, I am designing a 3-PIN AC LINE FILTER Multi Socket ,as part of my project on Voltage Regulation...my question is: Is there an added advantage in building an additional AC FILTER for consumer electronics? I have noticed many High end SMPS for PCs have deployed this on their 3 pin Female Input socket..
Hi Prakash! The advantage for using an additional filter would be to increase the effectiveness of noise mitigation and to act as an additional shield from transients to minimize the change of them causing too much damage. - Martin@KEMET
Hi Kemet Electronics, in what standard shows those levels? Is it IEC 61000-3-2? Thanks. By the way, great video!
Hi danith72. I am checking on that for you. Thanks for enjoying the video. Look into our webinars. 😊 I'll be back with the answer... stay tuned.
Hi danith72! The application that measured it was LED lighting, so it was measured based on CISPR15.

@@KEMETElectronics Hi, thank you so much. You are a star! I am just having a look right now. 100 thumbs up for you
I am building power inverter and I want to use the ac filter but I don't know the type of ferrite core and sizes for power Rating of 1-5kva
What is core size code of the common mode ac line filter .what does it represents??
We need a little more to go on to completely answer your question, but the physical core size will help with core saturation and allow for the choke to handle more current. Write ksim@kemet.com for further conversation.
Very informative. The power line is nasty it neefs all tje help u can gove it
Nice
Thank you!
My light is blinking when using mig welder? what to do?
Hi there - do you have a question about a KEMET component? If so, you can submit the question to our website at www.kemet.com/en/us/technical-and-sales-questions.html and someone will follow up with you. Thanks!
Interesting video, but the attack of the gate is making the sound go wavy
shame that the audio is pretty hard to follow.
Sounds intermittently choked...
@@wadereynoldsgm yes, can be wrong settings on the audio limiter/compressor of the recording device.
Sounds like the interviewee (white shirt) has an expander on his mic input... above a certain threshold the volume is increased. (or below a certain threshold it is attenuated) Yes... quite annoying.
Would EMI suppression affect a PowerLine AV internet connection?
Hi Barry - EMI suppression would have an effect is the AC Line Filter Chokes are suppressing the frequencies that the PowerLine AV communication is transmitting at. How it would affect them would be dependent on where they are placed such as between the point of transmission and receiving or externally.
@@KEMETElectronics IE dont plug a internet over powerline connection into a random AC filter... PS the Powerline AV connections share ham radio frequencys , cause lots of problems... bad spectrum use.
Thanks for sharing, but audio is awful
This was posted in 2019. You audio should reflect that.
lol
Just like the way your voices sound like in your video. Never fails. Nurses who learn about cold virus catch the cold first.
What
Hi,
I have chosen Kemet for my AC LIne filter
Could you give me your mail id I send my requirement and choose the correct part for my application
Hi Balaji - Thanks for choosing KEMET! Can you please submit your requirements via our online question form? www.kemet.com/en/us/technical-and-sales-questions.html Looking forward to hearing from you!
