Alec Steele Blacksmith 2021 - Розваги
Think Alec should have a second Chanel with all bloopers, swears and shenanigans included🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes!!
This is the best idea I’ve ever heard.
OMG YEEESSSSSSS
Like a shorts channel. That would be nice
Did u see him run into the grinding room door lololol
Man, I am in the mood for a Steele vs. Stelter episode.
Alec vs Jamie?
Steele is in the uk and stele in USA tho
at the moment its more likely to be a Popple 'n' Steele than a Steel V Stelter
Fuckin' saaaaaaaaame
Alec will lose AGAIN.
Since we can't have Steele vs Stelter, start a new series, "Jamie, wanna learn..." then pick something to teach him about smithing in each vid. I'd watch that with bells on.
"I'm getting high off these fumes." *Promptly walks into door*
Yes I saw that and thought it was HALARIOUS
Then starts sanding, that's dangerous but good content
Alec was definitely the kid who always wanted to show you how fast he could run
Pro-tip for y'all in the quench area. (Alec has mentioned it before but not here specifically. so...) When quenching, move the knife up and down ONLY. Do not wave side to side. Going side to side can EASILY induce a warp. Up-down has a GREATLY reduced chance of warping.
Though you were going to say quench facing north there for a second
I've always done horizontally North/South never really had a problem with warps unless i overheated the steel
@@michaelsisco1785 he clearly means side to side, like your trying to paddle the the oil.
@@nom6758 I realized what he said, I'm just saying I've almost never had a problem with a north/south horizontal quench
@@michaelsisco1785 I much rather quench facing east and after it's already dark, in a brightly lit workshop with it's main entrance facing southwest by south (SWbS).
Alec just verbally attacks Jamie for not being ready lol
He was muggin him off he knew would happen
I love how Jamie and Alec bounce off each other, such a British thing to swear at your friends, it us showing affection
My name is Jamie, for a few seconds I was so excited
Same was kind of confused xD
Literally same bro
Bro same here wtf
Jamie battle!!
Same
This is brilliant. You should get someone who has nothing to do with smithing to make one of these with you, every time you bring out a new one. The ultimate how to guide.
I'd like to volunteer my services for that. Just in the name of the greater good of course. ;)
One step closer to Jamie being the dedicated hand sander.
"Its just a rad thing to do man"
Will? is that you?
I love how the apprentice sense of humor impacts the video, first Will and now Jamie..
Ah how quickly y'all forget Sam 🙁
@@digitaIgorilla I haven't and I honestly can't believe he hasn't been called for some kind of a reunion by now, it's pretty cold to be honest...
@@digitaIgorilla blame it on me having joined this channel's community when Will started his apprenticeship...
@@FromTheHeartWoodMK I dont think they parted on the best terms.
@@ninefingersnate3733 certainly didn't seem hostile or anything in the last video they did together, but you never know what happens behind the scenes...
It's fascinating to hear Alec swearing, two man become really friends, once they start to say the f word to each other
I know right? I don’t think I’ve ever heard him swear in a video before.
He’s British, of course he’s got a mouth like that on him
@@bullinahanky me neither that was weird
Actually I prefer a well mannered clean spoken English gentleman 😄
@@bullinahanky Jamie normally edits it all out, but he was too busy making a knife to clean it up this time.
I've been to England once, almost 20 years ago. I still have fond memories of Wagamama.
Yes, the quintessential English dining experience 😂
You come to England, and the only thing you can remember is a Japanese restaurant???
I live in England and about the only fond memory I have of it is Frankie and Benny's BBQ sauce.
@1:54 i almost had a sweetness heartattack.
More doggo footage or riot!
So cute *-*
Jamie is an absolute champion for making alec cuss, iv never heard alec cuss before. Thank you Jamie for the impurity that is alec steel saying wirty dord
Kudos to Jamie for filming, editing and publishing the videos, as well as making stuff occasionally with Alec.
Such a simple project, yet one of your most entertaining videos. Keep bothering Alec for us Jamie, all us viewer appreciate it :)
Never heard Alec swear like that. It was funny as hell. Also Alec wheres the facial hair?
The only other time he swore on video (don't know about streams) was when he was mountainbiking and almost slipped in a corner.
it was the time with the rattlesnake when he was riding his bike, yeah
@@Z3DT In one of his videos before he moved to montana he dropped a swear too. Can't remmember if something wen't wrong of he hurt himself, but I remember being a video he didn't speak at all apart from the swear-bomb
I really love how you show when things get messed up I think it’s way to often that you see craftsman content where it’s perfection all the time which sets an unrealistic expectation and is detrimental to the maker community
He’s gonna train you Jaime. Then he will move to another country, and abandon you.
Underrated comment
Third time’s the charm?
2 years later Alec moves to Brazil adopts a 3 doggo while Jaime moves out of the shop starts a UA-cam channel about knife forging traveling across the UK buying old machineries but just as he moves out he breaks a power hammer that he was restoring for half a year
i know what youre talking about. i'd say thats the youtube equivalent to killing off one of the main characters.
Rip Will Stelter
I appreciate the "how to" video again. These used to be the core of your channel. I really enjoy the details in how to blacksmith!
Alec, your videos are always fun to watch. One thing you can try for mounting the blade for sanding. I took a piece of wood slightly bigger than the knife and put two dado cuts into it. In these cuts I recessed two magnets from old hard drives. The magnets will hold the knife to the block of wood, but are recessed slightly below the level of the wood, so the blade never touches the magnets. I can then position the blade anywhere on the block I want and I can put the block in a vise. It makes it very quick to switch sides and their is no mess of glue.
Ooh I took a culinary class because I plan to become a chef and I loved using the paring knives! We used them to remove meat from bones, decoring tomatoes, and because I was the most skilled student in the class with the knives we used the instructor even had me teach the other students how to use a paring knife to devein shrimp and remove excess amounts of fat from the meat without taking off too much. We even used them to make fruit art, like carving apples into roses or pears into lilies.
Drink every time I plug a product I like
We'll all be under the table in no time
This channel is just an add with more steps now. I need will to get his channel up and running!
"You've ever thought about being a clown instead of a blacksmith" xD
My daughter and I have a new task ahead of us. Excited for our build kits arrival. Nice finish on those paring knives fellas. Cheers!
Looks like you moved the blade side to side on your quench Alec, might have contributed to the warping.
Glad to see you guys using Send Cut Send. I haven't had many knife parts made by them, but their service is perfect for making parts for combat robots.
I love all the content you’re pumping out, and really respect your skill it’s just that after years of messing with knives myself I’ve learned you really should, especially if it’s kitchen cutlery, invest some money and time into some wet stones and give a knife a real edge! After putting so much into bevelling a knife, putting a simple v grind on with a belt is really a step backwards. Again this is my opinion, still think you’re a solid bladesmith, keep up the good work!!
7:49...
For the first time I've seen Alec was pissed off ,😂😂😂
"It's just a rad thing to do, man!" is going to be my new catchphrase.
Alec to hold my blades and other projects I use a 1200 lb Vevor magnetic lifter set upside down in a vise. So So So much faster and easier set up for grinding and polishing flat faced projects. It's even strong enough to hold a 1 x 1 x 8 or 12 inch stand off block and the blade at the same time.
I would love to see you take on making yourself your own glasses frame. Love the videos always learn something new every time I watch
Jesus Alec, 8 months and you're back to full brit lol. Cussing out your mate on camera lol. Love it
Alec’s trick reminds me of Ben Crowe’s (Crimson Guitars) masking tape and superglue trick.
I use my paring knife to cut apple slices for my dog. That’s pretty much it’s primary use. It’d be pretty cool to have a me-made puppy apple slicer.
This video Pares (like pairs, but paring) well with my homework!
This is probably just a comment-bait, but I'm gonna est akd say: it is PARING, not PAIRING, unless the knife is supposed to bring two things together to form a PAIR 😉
Thankfully got a screen grab before you fixed the title... 'cuz I just re-read it and thought I'd had a stroke.. 🤣🤣🤣
To be fair, they did make two of them.
Well, you could use it to cut an apple in half, then you'd have a pear!
(Of apple halves.)
Then there is the pearing knife... this has been fruitful...
Just to be a bit more eco friendly: After applying that hot glue you can re heat it with a blow torch for the second side instead of using more glue
I have watched many videos of yours Alec and all the different ways to fix scales, knifes, etc to work on them. May I suggest double-sided carpet tape? Thin and sticks really well but you can still remove it when needed. I used it to tape scales together for drilling holes for example, they will stay put and the holes are perfectly aligned. Take 2 scales, tape them together, stick your handle design or knife design on it (paper) and drilling is 100% successful plus you can rough shape the scales knowing that all is aligned while you work on it.
Double-sided carpet tape has become a major player in my toolbox when creating scales. I think instead of hot glue and masking tape you can get the job done quicker and easier.
737 alec is such an awesome guy. Giving away little tips he's picked up happily. Dudes awesome.
Totally going to by a hammer for my brother. Alec you have really inspired him to start blacksmithing.
I love how you can see just how much fun they had with this build. Love it!
love the tip for hand sanding. that will be my new goto.
I really enjoyed the energy and the inclusion of Jamie 🤣
Could you do a spear project? Specifically one that viewers could try and make at home?
If you want, you can use alcohol as hot glue release. A few drops and let it sit for a minute and it will come right off. And you can warm the blade and just plunge it into the bed of hot glue.
I love the 2X72 leather belt for my grinder. Add some metal polish, white or red, and slow it way down and you can strop your blade to an incredible edge.
damn cool tip about gluing the blade to wood and blue tape for hand sanding!
please make a video on making a filing jig to hand file in accurate bevels. ik its tedious but its good for people without belt grinders that might buy your kits.
I hope Jamie gets to do more of these! I love watching people learn new stuff
The best quenching oil that I have found is used motor oil. The blackest stuff you can find. The extra carbon and iron molecule's really help. Better than anything you can buy new.
I love the build box. Excited for mine to get here.
You can build it,
Sounds good and thanks for the teaching
those scales are fabulous!
Hi Alec, I use Bluetooth enabled, active noise cancelling PELTOR WS ALERT XPI headsets at work. They are really great if you go for long stretches with ear protection on. They block out all loud noises, but they let you speak in a normal tone with coworkers, and they connect to your phone so you can answer calls and listen to Spotify or radio. A amazing piece of kit really. They are quite expensive as you would imagine, but of high quality and worth the price in my opinion... (The only "downside" is that now I prefer to listen to music thru them rather then the speakers in my car going to and from work, which I am aware looks a bit...funny... driving thru town, oh, well... 😉👍)
ah the banter is strong with these two
Alec is finally British again and it’s the best feeling ever
until he mentions dollars, he needs to be held down and made to drink tea and learns to say bloody hell instead of f*ck
I like this new Alec, with less formality and more humor. Loving it!
I just did my first bit of forging ever today, thank you for the inspiration Alec! On my way to making 100 leaf key chains
OH BOY look in the 2016 archives and live streams there's AWESOME stuff there
WHO IS THIS GOOD LIL DOGGIE AT 1:55
Love your videos. Keep them coming!
Ahh another great episode of Top Shop!
Mine arrived today in the mail. Or Post for those over the pond.
I love the box kits
A good thing to know when using epoxy, or any other 2 part mix, especially if you only use a small amount and want a long shelf life; always pour out your resin first and cap the bottle. Then pour out your hardener. Because even the fumes from the hardener can be pulled into the resin bottle setting up your resin causing it to gel... Took me years to figure that out!
What a great inspiring video thank you!!
Awesome Pairing Knives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the banter
Great video Alec
Oh Yeah!!! Thanks Alec!
Cool job 👍
Hey Alec I really enjoyed this video. Would love to see more like it.
Light hearted videos with lots of talking are the best ones you put out. You (and your goofiness) are the best part of your youtube channel.
Super idea
7:47 spoken like a true brit
welp, bookmarking this one. had to buy this kit for my first knife making project.
That would also make a good Bird and Trout knife
I bought my knife kit... but my hobbyist shop (read: garage) won't be ready for a few months. In any event, I wanted to be prepared for my very first project. Thanks for making the kit, and this great and entertaining tutorial available for know nothings like me who want to get started with knife making!
Great channel. Subscribed!
I have no idea how to do this stuff but watching it is satisfying 👍🏻
Alec said thir-ee! British accent is back!
Jamie has some dope rings, and now a cool knife. :)
Idk why but the epic music when alec was trying to squeeze out the epoxy was hilarious to me
FINALLY A TITLE THAT ISNT FULL CAPS
My name is Jamie and I saw the notifications and I was like "yeah sure Alec!"
Bought it!
Beat infomercial I’ve seen in a long time! 😆
That's an awesome video !
You motivated me to start forging with a friend.
Our propane gas forge is finally ready and it hit 1050°C right now. We are up in altitude so we are gonna add forced air to it.
Your kits are awesome. Will you ship them from the UK sometime ?
I'm in Switzerland. Je parle français :).
Note: Jamie's mask is setup for gas as shown in the video. It lacks the particule filters. You can add them with the plastic adapter from 3M.
7:40, Alec has reverted back to his native language, British
Holy moly they are ghost knives!
ilia how these guys are obviously having fun doing this i wanna be like that when i a black smith
Is this the first sighting of Jamie? Sooo many years behind the scenes!
No he's been on several times, made a knife with Alec and Will in Montana. He even made an episode himself last year
Eyyyy plzz do a viking sword part 2. Just to se have much you have grow
I never want to build a knife till today. Thanks for making it look easy. I just got a build a heat treat oven. And then I’m all in...
I am actually sanding my first blade right now while watching this.
Now there are so many things i would have done differently xD
I forged it from coil spring steel, it was a pain to get it even sort of hard. Know your steel xD. Completely overheated it in the first try, then it kind of worked. I'm already stoked for the next one, to put all the things learned back in!
You can make a sword without any Power tools
4:32 rad thing to do 😂
Been waiting for a new video!
