I just purchased this Holy Stone HS510 as my first drone. I'm enjoying learning how to fly it here in South Carolina! Thanks for all your great reviews!!
Thanks for this. Had trouble learning to initially fly mine as a first time user, this helped me a lot, had to go out to an empty football field at my local rec center coz I almost dropped it in the lake during some test flights so had to take myself back to a nice open comfy space while I get used to it
Just like driving a car, after a while your subconscious takes over, the learning curve is different for everyone and if it’s been a while you need to reset sometimes
Like your reviews. Looking for my first drone. I'm having trouble deciding between this and the 710. My experience years ago with electric planes tells me more power is always good so maybe the 510. On the other hand longer flight times and being able to control the camera angle would be nice. The drone will be used on camping trips to get an aerial shot of campsites and also just fun flying on our property. Would you say the 510 is a lot more stable in windy conditions?
its really good in windy conditions because its so compact and powerful, would take good pictures but not made for video, you would need a drone with a gimbal for that. thaks for watching
I notice on some drones you do a compass calibration and also a Gyro calibration. This HS510 only needs the Gyro calibration before each flight correct? On your new review of the Syma EX220W you do both a compass calibration from the remote with the lever controls and then you do the Gyro calibration just like on the HS510 buy spinning it horizontally and then vertically 3 times. Just thought it would be helpful to clear this up on this drone and perhaps others. Thanks!
Great Question, it so easy to do a Gyro (I just do it out of habit) but the compass depends on if the drone knows where its at. If it close to the same place as before it may not need it. Kinda like when you get in your car and it dosnt know which way your going till you start moving. So, If I ever change flight area I will do it. Whats not fun is when your doing a drone show with 360 drones and they all need one, we call that the "Drone Dance"
@@b4ugo I could not find any instructions on "Compass" calibration on the HS510, only on the Gyro calibration which I also perform before every flight and I also check the two propeller screws on all four props from time to time before flying. Does the HS510 have a self calibrating Compass or am I missing something?
So, I take it you are mounting a second camera on top of the drone for your videos? The videos I have seen of the HS510 look pretty choppy due to not having a 3-way gimble but you video from the top mounted camera seem pretty smooth.
I did find your "Short" that mentions how you pulled that off... ua-cam.com/users/shortsXfnwf4TRzj0 for those who also would like to know: HeiyRC Sports Camera Mount for $9 on amazon and a first gen Insta360 GO. I can see why the cheaper drones do not use stabilization on the built-in cameras... I guess it would add WAY too much to the cost of the drone and thus why all the drones with smooth video are twice the cost or more.
In order, where would you place the HS510, 175D, 710, 700E, and last the Potensic Atom SE. From best to worst, or favorite to least favorite. Which one would be best for FPV with a drone mask? Also could you rate the cameras on each. If you have time! Thanks! New subscriber here
They are all different. The 510 is the really fast but shorter flight time, the 700e is the most stable, the HS710 is by far the best deal right not because it $179 (down from $250) and as of right now the 175d is sold out. But, The AtomSE is a better drone (no-wifi) but its quit a bit more. Thanks for watching.
Great review on the HS510. Its a nice little nifty quad for beginners or hobbyists that just want to rip it in the air for fun. The camera would’ve been better if it have real EIS but it is what it is.
@@b4ugo Man, I have so many things that I haven’t reviewed yet. Just been too busy with work and other projects that I don’t have the free time that I used to have. So whenever I have the time I try to get something up on the channel. Hopefully, I can put some new content out soon. P.S. I did have time to watch your video though 😊
This was my first gps drone. Doesn't have real good range. About 200 yards. By my house it is affected by interference pretty bad. Now I'm spoiled with my mini 2. It is fun to fly though.
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Took it out for a quick flight really easy to fly the only problem is only one battery. Trying to find a extra one on Amazon but they can't deliver to my address but roll on Christmas day.
We just recently bought 2 drones, the Holy Stone HS510 (245g) and a Tello (80g). This is my first experience with drones and I am quite impressed with both. I do have one question though...Our Holy Stone will not do the automatic land that the manual indicates that it does, and when we try to force land it, several times it has skidded off to one side running into objects-dangerous. We are not sure why this does it? If I am reading correctly, the left controller tap down quickly when in close proximity to the ground is supposed to land it? Am I reading this incorrectly?
Are you setting the Gyro’s and making sure it is on a flat surface? Usually when it does this its because the Gyro is kinda out whack. Also, it has an optical flow sensor which lets it know its close to the ground so it will pause and then descend slowly. If it is not defending straight down then something is off. Be sure and follow a complete checklist evertime, hope that helps. Let me know if I could help further, thanks for wathcing
@@b4ugo Hi, We have done complete checklists and ensure calibration every time we begin a session of flying because we wish to ensure there will be no issues. My 1st time flying was last night and the I had been flying for about 8-9 minutes to get used to the controls better. I was aware of the trouble my partner had been having the evening before with landing so I was taking it slow and ensuring plenty of room between myself and the drone for landing. All landings have been on flat concrete or asphalt surfaces. This 1st landing had it skidding until it hit and stopped under the tires of a vehicle in the area. The drone appeared minimal to unharmed except for the one arm no longer being in locked position and needing to be clicked back to go again. Just to be clear, it is the toggle switch or the button above that will do this automatic landing? We have had to hold the toggle switch down for several seconds to get a decent landing and hold until the propellers stop.
what if you are go ut of range?can you still hit rth button and it comes back... so gps holds drone in last postion it was even if you don't touch sticks??? thanks for sharing
so you have to hold drone and spin it in diff directions each time you fly? what if you shut off outside and than a half hour later want to fly again? do you have to do all the hand spinning again... thanks
It just takes a second and I would, once I just changed batteries and didn’t do it and it started toilet bowling and when I did catch it I had a pretty big cut on my finger, lol. Would have loved to have gotten a video of me chasing it!
Great video!!! I wish I held off buying 175 and got a Dji Mini se... We will see what Santa brings 🎅.... I was looking at The EXO Ranger with obstacle avoidance... In your opinion would you get the DJI mini or would you try the ranger?
I have the mini 2. The mini se probably isn't far off. Compared to my other drones it's a Cadilac. I don't even worry about range just fly. I ended up putting blaze orange skins on it to make it easier to see. I get my son to watch it while I fly fpv. So I can focus on flying while he watches it. I believe the nd filters will fit on the mini se. I don't see any real good reviews on the exo ranger. Just my opinion. I was tempted by the sale price. Glad I didn't buy it.
The HS175D is up to $200 on Amazon. About $30 increase in the past 3 months. The HS510 is $170 but the Eachine Ex4 is brushless, GPS, and has a 3-axis gimbal for $179 plus it comes with 3 batteries.
I am really glad I found your channel! Your reviews are excellently done, but I am looking for your personal opinion on something. I have narrowed my choices down to the hs175d or the hs510 … this will be my first gps drone … what would you recommend and why? I feel like it would be an easy choice if the 510 had the feature to be able to move the camera with the remote but I also don’t know how important that is for me as I plan to use it to check on my 15 acre property without having to walk around it.
I like the 510 drone better (even. Though it has a shorter flight time) It seems more solid and powerful, better in the wind. But, I like the 510’s controller way better also, the LED display gives you much more easy to read data. Thanks for watching!
Do you have an Amazon Link for the best SD card for this drone? I just bought this drone. It's my first drone and I really have no idea what I am doing. lol. Or what I need for it. Thanks in advance.
Just make sure its a U3….V30 and you will be fine, even the budget ones are ok as long as they have this rating, also screen record on you phone, gives another view, great question
Sorry for the late reply, been down with Covid, no plan needed, it just uses the WiFi of the drone, so even if your in the Mountains where there is no reception it will just use the Phones wi-if, thanks for watching
No, it’s a GPS drone so it’s working with Satellites, it’s got to be that’s the Gyro’s are not set on the controller. Be sure and reset it those evertime, also make sure there isn’t any metal objects around when doing a computer calibration
that could be so many things, please follow a prestart cheacklist, it needs to be done even on $15k drones, Set Gyro, calibrate compas, make sure you have enough satilites, let me know if that helps.
Anthony, You must be near some metal or interferance, I have had that happen occasionally, once I move somewhere else it went away, also,....Are you gettting plenty of Satilites?

Yes, interference is a problem with Wi-Fi drones, but, the drone is using the wi-fi- from your phone and not the towers, dosnt really need outside signal. The new HS drones the HS360s and the new HS720R (not released but I have one to test) do not use wi-fi, so improvements are coming.
