For me It’s very close to home , I live in Santa Clarita California it only takes me 20 minutes to this trailhead and now it’s my favorite local.
It came to my attention that there is another trail similar in name by Azusa California so make sure to get the right one this one is Fish Canyon Trail to Piano Box and Cienaga Campground.
The other one is Fish Canyon Falls

To park anywhere in Angeles National Forest, Cleveland National Forest, Los Padres National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument you’ll need a Natural Forest Adventure Pass Permit $ 5 per day or $ 35 per year that you can buy at more sports stores as well as gas stations and most 7 eleven stores near the Mountains
    Thank you 🙏

@@lopezexplora from campground to Angeles Oaks is 7 mile hike, or drive the nearby dirt road along the river.

I love this hike! I see the creek flow has finally dropped enough to cross it without being swept away. I'd never do it if there was any chance of rain.
I don't know if you know the history, but this was supposed to be the route of a highway connecting I-5 with CA 14. That is why the freeway exit is labeled Templin Highway. Jerry Brown put an end to that particular madness back in the 70s. I also remember when you could drive the trail across to Lake Hughes Road, then they gated it at both ends. After that, the forest service would drive it occasionally until the pavement deteriorated too much. They can still get to Cienega from the other side.
There's kind of an interesting trail going upstream of Castaic Creek, Red Rock Canyon. Hang a left at the flow level station and follow it until you can't anymore.
During the 2020 Lake Fire, all the areas around the campground were scraped bare. Just left the trees standing. They stopped the fire at the north end of Fish Canyon. Good to see growth returned.
Fish Canyon Narrows is a stunning bit of geography. Maybe wait until it dries out a bit before I go there again. All that water going through such a narrow passage would be a problem.
