    High levels of carbon in peatlands can have a huge environmental impact if those ecosystems are destroyed. What are your thoughts on the work being done here?

      @Libtarded while it is impossible to deny that human progress is having a negative effect on the environment i'm also failing to see anything being done.. i routinely see the EPA fining this plant or that plant, but i also see they arent doing anything meaningful, like building solar powered air filters using ion technology or river filters to try and reduce the amount of effluence from various sources reaching the sea.. at the same time, to suggest that if we disturb peatlands that carbon will suddenly aerosol into the atmosphere is pretty hard to swallow.. i will partially agree that it's a epa money grab with zero return on that grab.. they are not helping to reduce overall carbon and byproducts quantities.. they just want that sweet, sweet money

      I "impressed" with all this claim that the burning peat land for solely for OIL PALM INDUSTRY are to be the culprit for the global warming. Like coal burning silo are innocent, cow for meat industry are also do no harm at all. Not to mention with the number of all type of vehicle that we all kept using till this day are doing nothing to it. Please, for once in your life. Stop being hypocrite. Hey miss scientist from Leed Uni. I doubt you walked all the way from your well developed countries university straight to Congo. 😒

      This video and your statement are fair challenges to bring up and I 100% agree......But sorry, doesn't fit with agenda of scaring people into changing their sources of energy so the people invested in carbon credit management systems and other "green" corporations can get filthy rich. The same people telling you to change your life are producing more C02 then your every day person. Making promises the technology can not yet provide......You know its a scam when they only talk about human emissions and completely ignore deforestation and desertification.

    It all comes down to what the country decides to invest in as a source of income, as well the demands that exist for it. To find faults is one thing, but to actually offer an equally working alternative is another story.

    Question, is the increase in volcanic activity that goes up in a steady line alongside temperature just a coincidence?
    50 eruptions per year on average but for an example the last 3 years before this year had more than 70 and this year has already had 66

    Why is everything of significance for research in Africa? Aren’t there peatlands in Europe?

    • @fotofreak92
      @fotofreak92 5 років тому

      @ Charla Gotier
      Of course there are also peatlands in Europe. Especially in the northern countries like Finland and Sweden, but also in UK, Germany and Poland. And trust me, they are studied as well (I am doing research on them and I am not alone ;) ). I am not sure why a lot of things are so interesting in Africa, but I can imagine that it has something to do with the higher temperatures in the tropics. Because higher temperatures result in higher degradation of peat for example.

    • @resilience4lyfe331

      fotofreak92 thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, human beings are the most researched...& in the most unethical ways. Seems as though Africa has always been a well trodden treasure trove, never to the people’s benefit.

    Compared to historical records, present carbon levels are reportedly low. Plant life thrives on carbon dioxide and therefore it would increase peat deposits, wouldn't it?!

    • @PopescuSorin
      @PopescuSorin 5 років тому +2

      no, co2 level was never higher than 300ppm in the last 800.000 years, we know because we looked at the air trapped in ice. 2 much co2 is not good, has a green house effect and increases the temperature.
