After living in our pre civil war home on 23 acres of land, caring for that 12 room house, raising 4 children and a menagerie of animals, we very smartly put it up for sale and built, in the village, our repro New England saltbox. When we moved into this 7 room handicapped accessible home I was 65 yrs old. At 81 I realize how smart we were. Growing older is challenging all by itself. Well done you!!!
My husband and I decided to put in a pool and pool house a few years ago for instant gratification while our kids are still young. Yes, we refinanced our house to do it. Yes, we know that's a risk. But, YES!! It has been worth every worry and penny! We spend our entire summer out there together! We have so much more family time out there together than we ever have! Absolutely worth it!
Well hello fellow risk taker. In 1983 we installed our in ground pool. From then on we were the house the kids wanted to come to. Between volleyball courts, horses to ride, horseshoe pit and oh, softball if there was a place to gather it was our house. We had strict rules and yet they still came. NO REGRETS , but fond memories.
Generally a pool decreases the value of a home (maintenance & upkeep is not cheap) and a pool makes the property harder to sell because people dont want the headache, but if it's your forever home & you're never moving good for you. Do what makes you happy
@@bonniemiller9197 I love it! We're the same! Strict rules, but the kids' friends all still want to come over! It's a great way to keep an eye on them and get to know who their friends are.
Thanks Katie, a fellow risk taker who has good memories. Here we are almost 40 yrs later and these kids now in their mid 50's, tell us what fun they had and how grateful they were for a place to hang out, Keep up the good times . A little love goes a long way.@@katiec9895
I love the laundry room. I think no on the sconce. Especially if it has to be battery operated. I love the back garden and especially the steps. They are grand and they really set the tone for the whole area.
I would not put a light over the door in your laundry room. I think it would be too much, and it looks like you have overhead lighting in that room already. I DO think the charging station is genius! Your laundry room is absolutely wonderful! Love your channel, Linda. Have a great week ahead.
I love your explanation regarding doing everything all at once in your garden and home at this stage of your life. My mother used to say 'you only live once.'. You and your garden are an inspiration to me.
Linda, I am older than you and spending like a drunken sailor because I want to get my garden right and enjoy it all I can before I pass on. I agree with you. Spend it. I absolutely despise cell phones, especially when granddaughter comes over and spends her whole time on hers while she is supposed to be visiting us! I would never encourage that in any way, not providing chargers ever.
Linda my dear, I find it rude for people to ask what it is costing to redo your back yard! I am so enjoying seeing how your back dining area is coming along. Thank you lady for sharing!
Also, given the fact that in each area, contractors price jobs differently. If someone wants to replicate one of Linda’s ideas for their property, contractors will usually do a free estimate. I live in N Florida and it’s hard to find talented craftsman like Havier and Sergio. They are really putting love into Linda’s project.
I am IN LOVE with your backyard. Every time I see it, I love it more. The brick on the step risers is perfection! Heck yes, do it all at once! I'm 62 and hope to sell my large home and buy a smaller home and yard in a year or so, and I'm not going to compromise on how I want to live the last few decades (God willing) of my life.
Everything is looking beautiful! Love the brick edged steps! Yes, do it all now exactly how you want it. Life is too short to put things off for another day if you have the budget to do it. None of us are getting any younger (I'm older than you 😏🤣)
Just a thought. A water feature would be the icing on the cake in the back garden. Perhaps positioned nearby to your groaning board and soon to be installed new casement windows you could hear it from indoors and while outdoors. There's an empty space there now by flag stones. More topiaries or conifers you mentioned may be just that, more plantings. A water feature could delight many senses. Whatever you do, it's gonna be more than fine. We have a cement three tiered one. I surrounded its base with beautiful black polished pond rocks.
Have you thought about painting your door to your basement the color of your new cabinets? I don’t think you need a light above that door. I think a gray umbrella would look best in your backyard. Your planters are gray, so I think that would match better. ♥️
If you want longevity to your paint job on your patio furniture, you should have them powder coated. I have the same wrought iron patio furniture for coming up on 30 years, I still love it and have had them re-powder coated about 10 years ago and they wear beautifully, no chipping or peeling.
What type of business does powder coating of wrought iron patio furniture? Would that be an automotive paint shop? I have no idea where to look to have this done.
You can Google powder coating wrought iron in your area and it will give you plenty of choices. Also, your project you want powder coated should be able to be transported to their shop whether it be furniture or handrails. The process is first they sand blast and then the powder coating is a dipping process, it’s wonderful. Hope this helps
@@marian7440We had some things done in the St Louis area. And yes, they did do car wheels. This particular business dipped light fixtures, cabinet handles, vintage patio furniture.
As an impatient person, I’m ALL ABOUT immediate gratification! I’m thrilled for you and anyone else who is able to see a plan come together that they love. Watching this all come together has been so enjoyable for me😀
Love, love. Love, the back yard living living area. You are an inspiration to all. I live in my great grandmother's 880 sq ft home. We use to have home made ice cream in her backyard on Sundays after church with family. (60 yrs ago, I was about 12or 13) I retired to take care of my parents who have both since passed away. I have been dreaming about updating the patio and backyard and bring back that fun time with friends and family. (Never to old to dream) You have inspired me and given me so many great ideas. Thank you so much for sharing yourlife with us.❤️ 😊
Yes, Linda, it’s time to really enjoy your home and gardens! You are trading up, even though it’s a smaller scale. Gratitude and enjoyment are the formulas to aging in the winter of life! ❤
I love the brick capped steps. I love your laundry room! I love the charging station idea! I vote no on the light above the basement door. It’s been so fun watching the progress!!!
Linda,I think to really make your back patio POP! Black and white, striped sun resistant umbrella! When everything blends, nothing show contrast. OMO😁 The back has evolved,so beautifully, much faster than I thought you’d have time for .
When you left your Tudor house, I was so upset/sad that you left “dream garden” of yours. But now seeing your new garden on the hill, I think you should move every few years to surprise us how creative and amazing you are. You definitely have your style with signature elements, which are amazing and so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your hard work with us.
LOVE the brick around the back steps. Love that laundry room. And most of all, I love that you are able to do all the projects right away. So happy for you. We should celebrate each others blessings. I believe that attitude will open you up for blessings to flow into your own life.
Well some could ask the cost not as rude but to see different areas cost to do it and compare to maybe get a new perspective. Not everything is done out of rudeness.
I was taught you didn’t ask that question of others no matter what the purchase. If they volunteer the information is their choice. What is the need for that information in an area you don’t live? Sorry it is consider rude.
I agree. It is a wonderful investment in her home, paid for by the sale of her former home and garden. But for those wondering how much a big job can cost, I can tell you my landscaping re-vamp (which was significantly smaller than Linda's) cost around $4K. BTW, I do not have a large yard, and the back yard is fenced. I already had great hardscape in the landscape and I had an old irrigation system that needed repair but not installation. I had all of the overgrown, high maintenance, dead, and underperforming shrubs and foundation plantings (around 20-30, I lost count) torn out on all sides of my house and in the naturalized area in the backyard. When it was all said and done, I had 2 large palms, a water oak, two pine trees, 3 muhley grass clumps, a bunch of Society Grass (which was dug up and divided and replanted), and a couple of ligustrum (which were severely pruned back) left in the yard. I also had 5 azaleas that I had installed 3 years ago after the two giant Arbor Vita died and had to be removed. I spent around $1k at that time with that and having the overgrown landscaping brought under some semblance of control. I installed 8 dwarf Purple Daydream Lorepetelum, 5 spiderweb Fatsia, 4 Cordelyn, 3 Miss Scarlett Anise, 3 Bobo hydrangeas, 3 Little lime hydrangeas, and one additional hydrangea whose name slips my mind. All of these plants in 3-gallon containers averaged about $45 each. I also added a Chinese Fringe tree, two Natchez Crepe Myrtles, and one Rhapsody Crepe Myrtle. These were all 15-gallon sized trees and all of the Crepe Myrtles ran $99 each with the Chinese Fringe tree $179. I also added 8 Dragon's Breath Celesoia which I picked up from Walmart for about $9 each and 6 hostas at $12 each. The total cost for plants, not counting some random and stray perennials and ferns I picked up, was $2,195. All plants came from a local nursery (Brownswood Nursery on James Island, SC), and the salesman who helped me was incredibly patient and knowledgable. I also had a consultation with Jim Putnam of HortTube as part of my planning (but not included in my total), worth every penny. He is so knowledgeable about plants. I forgot to mention that I also added 2 butterfly bushes which were another $100, I also needed mulch, which I got for free through Chip Drop. I went through almost 17 yards of mulch (almost a full dump truck) in my yard---I have a mid-sized natural area in the back in addition to planting beds around my house--but it cost $350 in labor to get it spread. I also had sod laid in an area of the front lawn where a "proscenium stage" of about 12 old, well-established, take-the-house-over-if-you-let-them Lorepetelum projected into the front lawn in front of my porch. I am almost 70 and cannot do the labor, so that cost another $1800, and well worth it to get it done quickly and in the increasingly hotter weather. This included the tear out of over 20 ugly and overgrown shrubs and the installation of the new, mulch installation, and repairs to my irrigation system. All told, between plants and labor, it cost right at $4k, and was something I had been planning and saving for almost 4 years since purchasing my house. There is more I would like to do, but I have the foundation for my garden in and now I want to let it grow to see what needs to be added. Everything I put in was put in with an eye to low maintenance (little trimming/pruning) and color coordination with my house and trim (grey with burgundy trim shutters and door). I will be adding a bunch of perennials next spring for a pollinator garden. I have a very shady back and side yards, so I am limited on where I can put sun lovers. At some point I am going to have some brick edging installed around the back natural area and will be adding plants to the naturalized area. I still have about $1k I had originally budgeted to spend next year. So, now you have some idea of what to budget if you want to do a fairly comprehensive update of your landscaping. Again, I had the hardscape and irrigation system, which needed repair, in place, so my costs were all plants and labor. You will save significantly if you can do the work yourself you will save a lot. You can save even more by purchasing smaller plants (I am like Linda, I don't have the time for plants to grow from small specimens).
@@anneedens3202 thanks for sharing your cost for those who are wondering how things are charged. Hope this helped them. Asking someone in person could really put them on the spot if they would like to keep their business private.
You made the right decision.....investing money from your previous home into the new one. And yes, instant gratification at a certain age is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Getting things done quickly allows you more time to enjoy it. And isn't that the whole point of doing it in the first place? I have said in the past, at some point I need to stop planning my life and start living it....spending more time living in the moment and less time worrying about what the future might bring. You're doing a great job and creating a masterpiece you will be proud of and enjoy every single day. Side note: As you stand there in front of your fence, I am still amazed at how creative and budget friendly that fence transformation was. It is definitely a beautiful backdrop to your space.
Black umbrellas! The deep shade is life changing! We have a French bistro near us that installed a black awning over their patio and it taught me this lesson. You will LOVE it. 🖤
I have black umbrellas trimmed in white and love them. Black and cream striped cushions look great as well. Classic. Heat wise we live in Naples Fl and it is hot here. Makes no difference. Easier to keep clean too.
I love the idea of the scone over the door and your charging station is genius. I like the idea of the beige umbrella because it matches the steps. Great video, so many good ideas. Looking forward to seeing them incorporated
Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens...those of us who can't afford to hardscape in a grand way, live vicariously through your garden. Very inspiring!
Yes, this is a confession... I am coveting your backyard, in fact, your entire outdoor space. I also am a bit jealous, but very happy for you, of your ability to be able to fulfill your garden dreams in such a short time frame and to your heart's desire. Although I share your age bracket and we have downsized tremendously, I will not ever be able to realize the extent of your achievements in my home garden, but it still brings me immense peace and joy. My garden is my sanctuary, my happy place, even though I supply the labor, which can be satisfying in itself, but at a much slower pace😂. I see that you, too, seem to be the happiest in your garden, as well. Bless you!
Linda - money well spent. As you've said, investing in the outdoor elements, including hardscaping, is long-lasting and serves as the foundation for everything else. And your life and career are centered around the outdoors, gardening, entertaining, etc. I'd do the exact same! Everything is looking so beautiful!
Everything looks so amazing. You are so inspiring. This year I was able to do a lot more to my garden than I ever thought possible because of a large pay adjustment I received in December. And I’ve been at it every single day that the weather permits. You and your husband have worked hard for years to be able to achieve what brings you joy. And you have inspired many of us to do the same. ❤ I think your back porch is absolutely perfect. I love that it is big enough at the top to accommodate a chair if you ever feel is necessary. In the distant future, you may not feel like going down the stairs, and you just want to look out at the garden and sit on the porch. It’s absolutely perfect.
Nice design on the laundry closet. You really maximized the space with the wicker shelving and closet. love the charging station idea! Absolute necessity
Linda, you have earned the ability to invest in your garden creation projects coming together quickly! Everything looks great and I’m happy for you and hubs ❤. Grey on umbrella. Yes on light above laundry room door to basement.
Linda, your home and all you're doing to make you and hubs family. Well deserved... Love your dream....I am proud and family for you. I talk about you to my friends and family as though we know each other. I have followed you for several years and you have not disappointed...☺️ I think a light over the basement door is a nice touch..
You are so inspiring. I am not the master gardener you are but I have learned so much and the added bonus of your sharing of ways to make life easier while still beautifying a home are nothing short of brilliant.
Hi linda. Thought the front yard was totally amazing, but now am obsessed with the backyard!! The dining carpet amazing!!the stairs are beautiful and with the brick facing manificent!! Can't wait for more. Such a great job!!!
I got so excited when you mentioned you’ll be collaborating a video with Jim Putnam soon!!! My 2 favorite gardeners to watch on UA-cam! I can’t wait! ❤️❤️
Love the back yard rug layout. Gives the option of sitting at the table to use as a desk and chairs for lounging with a book, a drink, or just enjoying the beauty of your surroundings.
I love the fact that you are getting exactly what you want in your home. You sold your amazing Tudor mansion and I'm sure you made money on it. So get what you want. I love the green color of your cabinets, and also a charging station is a very good idea. Instead of a light on top of your laundry door, I would get rid of the door and replace it with one that is all glass, this would give you more light and open up the room so it's not so enclosed.
Yes, to instant gratification, especially as we get older. Back garden is fabulous. Love the tawny umbrella. No to light over door. Like the clean uncluttered look you already have.
Linda, if you plan on moving the raised bed planters around you may want to install much larger casters before you put your soil in. They will be very heavy and almost impossible to move with the small casters. My husband changed mine from small to large. It made all the difference in the ease of movement. I’ve enjoyed your channel so much. Thank you!
This has been on my mind and now I will share. I enjoy you and your staff and your videos podcasts and newsletters. What I don’t like are the followers that question why and how much money you spend. That is no one’s business but yourself and hubby. Anyone that follows you should know you wouldn’t do it if you couldn’t. You, at least I never heard you say, do this in your space now!!!! I admire your tact I wouldn’t be so nice. I am an octogenarian so am familiar with short timing it. I do what I can and admire those that can do more. OK I am finished. Keep on being you and encouraging us to keep on going at our own pace. Bless you and Stuart and your entire staff. Keep smiling, keep shopping, and by all means keep sharing!!!
just want to say thanks for sharing all your knowledge, great hints on everything , your are my therapist as my hubs and i are going through some difficult medical issues. you are my inspiration to keep on gardening etc. we are not all as lucky to have been born with such smarts, looks, and personality as you and your hubs. however, you make us all welcomed….so wonderful!! thanks again!
I too, have made the change to smaller living quarters and rethinking and planting perennials for years to come. I am 78 and need to make many changes in my life, budgets have a lot to do with how much I will accomplish. Linda, your ideas are an inspiration to me, too. Everything in and out looks splendid!! On the windowed laundry room door you could design & order wording "LAUNDRY" from online Rub-On Designs. Yes, a light above that door would be nifty.
Our backyard is our happy place! We moved in almost 20 years ago and had basically a blank slate. It’s been so gratifying to look back at photos and see the changes. One of the best additions was a lovely brick path to my husband’s shed. A fountain and an arbor (where my Peggy Martin rose lives) are other beauties. I am so proud you did your backyard all at once! You truly are an inspiration to “live a beautiful life”!
Love the new laundry room. I would paint the wall on the basement landing that you can see through the door, maybe the same green as the cabinetry or a light tan color to pick up the rattan shelving.
Linda, those 2 wicker bookshelves and all the organization that lives within is my dream come true!! You enjoy that with great health, laughter & love! Your friend Kristine
We have a charging station in our garage for all of the "outdoor"battery operated things that my husband uses. Blower(s), drills, etc. Use a electrical power strip with enough wattage for your needs. It's a game changer!
I ABSOLUTELY love everything you’ve created!! Your”rooms” are a GREAT idea…I’m going to try it 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you for carrying us on your BEAUTIFUL creative ideas. Amazing 👏🏽👏🏽
“I’m confident when this gets finished, it’ll inform me what to do next.” This is how I like to operate, especially when there is so much to consider. You do it so well. As you make your overall vision come alive.
As much as I loved your front garden, I was wondering what you would do out back, and I knew you would nail it. Its all coming together very nicely. Love the brick rug so very much. Also, no light above the door, that is already a very brightly lit room.
I have a list of Linda Vater words, words I’ve never heard. You added one to the list in this video: espellere. Along with these- dotage, raison d’etra, codgugating, ditritus. Thank you for expanding my vocabulary in in addition to everything else you do!🌻
So pleased to hear you and Jim will be getting together! Love your thought process on everything; it’s a garden living life and exactly as you should want it to be. You have carefully orchestrated everything including the finances…..so enjoy because we get to enjoy too😊❤
Yes, yes, yes to the light sconce in the laundry room. As I have gotten older, I have lost a lot of vision and had to install the brightest can lights possible (many of them) in our home. It’s the only way I can see what I’m doing. Love the laundry room and the work you put into all of your videos. You are first class! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely place a battery light/sconce above the Laundry door to the basement. Power outages in OK are frequent 🌪️ I gasped with surprise when you revealed the BRICK facade on the steps 🥰. Absolutely Gorgeous!! Love the Laundry Room 🪴
Linda you are definitely an influencer and have encouraged me to make rooms in my yard but I need a Javier 🙏🏾 and manpower to help with some of my projects.
For more of a cohesive living room /dining area back patio look, maybe a curved wicker/ rattan sofa, or an ell shaped one, would look nice. Similar to your dining chairs. It would be more comfy and look more like a living room. We use those pieces for naps too. Sunbrella fabrics are so durable and now on 7 years from purchase. Although, we do bring in cushions during stormy weather and pop them in our garage.
Hi Linda - I like your laundry room but I would not recommend a sconce. What I would recommend that you consider is a Victorian Drying Rack on a pulley. You have lots of ceiling height and could easily put one in. You don’t have that much drying space in your room and this would add considerably. I have one myself and find it invaluable. They are very old fashioned but also look very beautiful. Mine has vintage iron end plates with wood slates in between and my hubs stained the wood slates to match my laundry room shelves. Everyone that sees it wants one for their house. It is in constant use and yet it isn’t obstructive.
Thank you Linda for mentioning Hawaii. I'm heartbroken about the fire & devastation. You mention a greenhouse. Where is it? 👍🥰 We love you so much Linda. So happy for you. Hi Stewart.
My thoughts on a sconce above the door. Not every inch of the wall needs something on it, and it would be a pain to get up there and get it down to recharge. The garden and laundry room look so lovely.
Linda, have you thought about a water or pond feature on your property? Perhaps, something small? I think it would be lovely and the sound of water would be so relaxing and blocks out traffic. I love the way the back is coming together.
I do love the brick\paver sitting area & the brick edge to the steps, that is sheer genius!! You have a great sense of place & how to create it. Love it all. I don't think the light over the door is needed but I do think someone suggested painting the door to match the cabinets, I think that would give you the pop that area needs. Love all that you do & your organizing mind makes me envious.
As for the questions of the day, since you asked😊. I think a grey umbrella would be beautiful, I love that you changed the one in front. And as far as the light in the laundry room, I would not, I think it would be too busy. So for what it's worth, u have my 2 cents! ❤to u and Stuart, stay cool !😎
Love the safety/aging factor of not having to bend down and get your wood logs as they will be at your level when you walk out the lovely back door. Absolutely beautiful. Get that moss going. So many of our friends are doing what you're doing in making money on the home they raised their kids in and buy the empty nest home. We invested 21 years ago and have never looked back.Yippee to the KC Junior league cook book. Had to say it. LOL. No to the sconce
The cottage is magnificent. At my age I choose things a little different than I would at 35. And since I am more established, I would pay for somone to do something for me, that I easiely could have done wgen I was younger. Totally your business, some folks seem to be busy bodys and need to just enjoy the process, and the beauty. Enjoy.
Light in the Laundry room. It will be very helpful if electricity goes out and you need to go to your basement. A black umbrella would be nice over the table, and you can always move the tan one around if needed. Y'all have some brutal summers! The charging area will be excellent. Your home and garden are really coming together! Of course you should go for getting it the way you want! You and hubs have worked hard for your comfort, no need to explain!
You never cease to amaze me saw your laundry room video so jealous!!! You always put a smile on my face yes put a light above the door Love the charging station idea❤
I am always so delighted to receive your notifications! So happy for you and all your family and the progress that grows more and more beautiful and complete. Your vision is wonderful!🎉❤
It is amazing how quickly you have designed your garden and brought that design to its desired look. Also the interior as well has come together in a short time. It is both lovely and practical. I also am at the age that I prefer to get things done, according to the budget I have, to make my life simpler yet beautiful and comfortable.
I like the idea of a light above the basement door. I would also consider installing a woven blind, like the gorgeous ones throughout your home, on the door's window.
OY! you will miss the electrical outlet that you wouldn't put in the laundry room. Yikes, get the outlets, get the outlets!!!! I know you love your battery operated lamps but geeeez that is a job Linda. lol. Cheers Loving how the back yard is coming together, cann't wait!!!
I really like your front yard but I absolutely LOVE the back. It feels so inviting. It beckons you to come in, sit down and have a cold ice tea. Such Southern Hospitality!
Linda I am totally on board with what you said about getting things done at your age. I am 63 and understand you completely because I am the same. The only difference is you have been successful enough with your life choices to be able to do the landscaping projects most people can only dream of. So, you go girl! I love ❤️ what you have done. You are my favorite UA-cam channel. 👏👏👏
Linda, I support you doing to your home what you need to do with your home to make it your home. This has been an experience I have enjoyed very much. Many thanks!
Agree with you making this house and yard what you want now and enjoy it to the max. Love the brick edging on the stairs. Curious to see what you have planned for the last corner of you backyard living room. Great use of space in the laundry room.
I love all your projects! You have a beautiful design eye. If someone on UA-cam has an issue with the cost of your projects, phooey on them! Might as well take care of your projects and enjoy your home and yard!
I agree Linda. We just sold our home in the California desert and purchased a home in a beautiful suburban town here in Southern California. It was a fixer upper in that we had to paint ,replace flooring throughout our home. We had to replace fridge, cooktop, vent. Bathroom counters and sinks. We updated door knobs etc It’s the little things that make it look So much better.we had some money to do those things and just wanted it done. Of course it’s been a ongoing process because I’ve been working on the gardens and patio. Everything is looking so beautiful and I’ve really enjoyed and always look forward to seeing your next project and videos😍🥰❤️…… Your laundry room looks nice and bright. Me personally I agree about the charging station would be nice. It wouldn’t bother me to not have any extra lights. I really like the framed photos that used to be in your sons bedrooms.

I love the laundry room. I think no on the sconce. Especially if it has to be battery operated. I love the back garden and especially the steps. They are grand and they really set the tone for the whole area.
It’s nice to have the negative space. It might draw too much attention to the door instead of the overall room.
I would not put a light over the door in your laundry room. I think it would be too much, and it looks like you have overhead lighting in that room already. I DO think the charging station is genius! Your laundry room is absolutely wonderful! Love your channel, Linda. Have a great week ahead.
Perfectly said!
Or a light fixture in soft black above the door.
If you add the socket behind the shelves you could add a small lamp if you decide you really need something more than the overhead lights.
I love your explanation regarding doing everything all at once in your garden and home at this stage of your life. My mother used to say 'you only live once.'. You and your garden are an inspiration to me.
Can you show where the art lights came from?😊
Linda, I am older than you and spending like a drunken sailor because I want to get my garden right and enjoy it all I can before I pass on.
I have a considerable amount of wrought iron railing- it needs painted badly- should I have it powder coated?
You can Google powder coating wrought iron in your area and it will give you plenty of choices. Also, your project you want powder coated should be able to be transported to their shop whether it be furniture or handrails. The process is first they sand blast and then the powder coating is a dipping process, it’s wonderful. Hope this helps
You read my mind! As long as the webbing in the patio chairs is a metal of some sort, powder coating would be the way to go!
Thank you so much for sharing yourlife with us.❤️ 😊
You have turned that little house into such a warm and functional home. Simply Genius ........
I agree. A striped umbrella for the pop of color would be great!
LINDA !!! I created my first topiary from a small boxwood ....LOVE IT I AM HOOKED !!!!!!! Angie from Indiana
So exciting isn't it? Good for you. Linda is so inspiring.
I like the above door space without a light for a clean look
The cost of this is nobody’s business except Linda and her husband. It is rude to even bring it up. I love watching this evolve‼️
Linda is a grown mature lady who can speak for herself. Enough said.
I forgot to mention that I also added 2 butterfly bushes which were another $100,
I also needed mulch, which I got for free through Chip Drop.
I totally agree! A black umbrella will pick up the black in your chairs and be a nice contrast to all the grey on fence lattice and house trim.
The brick facing on the stairs is perfection. I love it.
Yes to the brass sconce. The idea absolutely fits the look of the door and beautiful age of the house.
I love the idea of the scone over the door and your charging station is genius. I like the idea of the beige umbrella because it matches the steps. Great video, so many good ideas. Looking forward to seeing them incorporated
I love the smattering of bricks and pavers. I also appreciate how you use what you have instead of buying more.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens...those of us who can't afford to hardscape in a grand way, live vicariously through your garden. Very inspiring!
I have a charging station. Best tip: Label the cords so you know which charges what. Lots of differences! Amazon has various wrap-around labels.
Bless you!
I agree that doing things over time is for the young. At my age, which is older than your’s, it’s do it now or forget it.
Thanks for sharing the messy, in progress areas of your yard. It makes me feel so better about my own projects in progress!
Linda - money well spent. As you've said, investing in the outdoor elements, including hardscaping, is long-lasting and serves as the foundation for everything else. And your life and career are centered around the outdoors, gardening, entertaining, etc. I'd do the exact same! Everything is looking so beautiful!
Those back patio stairs and the brick patio areas are works of art!
Yes, money to do these things is the major element .
You can add a light over your door from the power in basement through the wall. Over the door on both sides if you want it, I would think.
I have followed you for several years and you have not disappointed...☺️
I think a light over the basement door is a nice touch..
You are so inspiring. I am not the master gardener you are but I have learned so much and the added bonus of your sharing of ways to make life easier while still beautifying a home are nothing short of brilliant.
I vote yes! Get the sconce for your laundry above the door !! It will bring attention to how high your ceiling is and make the room look bigger.
Hi linda. Thought the front yard was totally amazing, but now am obsessed with the backyard!! The dining carpet amazing!!the stairs are beautiful and with the brick facing manificent!! Can't wait for more. Such a great job!!!
I can’t believe Linda’s arms at 66 years old….amazing!
The brick facing elevates the steps to the next level
I got so excited when you mentioned you’ll be collaborating a video with Jim Putnam soon!!! My 2 favorite gardeners to watch on UA-cam! I can’t wait! ❤️❤️
Love the back yard rug layout. Gives the option of sitting at the table to use as a desk and chairs for lounging with a book, a drink, or just enjoying the beauty of your surroundings.
NO DOUBT Linda you will make those beautiful steps grande indeed with your lovely plant styling! 😊
Sconce not needed in laundry room. Fantastic idea for charging station😊
Thank you!
A portrait brass lamp to go over the door of your basement matching the one you already have next to your laundry room , would look cohesive…..
Thank you for expanding my vocabulary in in addition to everything else you do!🌻
We just had our patio furniture power coated. It looks brand new and will last years. Love your back yard designs. It’s coming along wonderfully.
Would you think about a walled water feature at end of back patio for a focal point? It would be pretty even with raised beds!
Power outages in OK are frequent 🌪️
I gasped with surprise when you revealed the BRICK facade on the steps 🥰.
I think to have a dedicated place to charge lamps and any other items is good to have. I love it.🙏
Linda, have you thought about a water or pond feature on your property? Perhaps, something small? I think it would be lovely and the sound of water would be so relaxing and blocks out traffic. I love the way the back is coming together.
It would be fabulous to add a water feature to the back!
Wow! The steps, with the brick detail, are just great!
Love the trimmed brick you are installing on the steps. Your laundry room is great
Those back steps are really magnificent. Truly genius idea!
One of my favorite.
Enjoy life, your garden and home are beautiful.
I like the idea of a light above the basement door. I would also consider installing a woven blind, like the gorgeous ones throughout your home, on the door's window.
OY! you will miss the electrical outlet that you wouldn't put in the laundry room. Yikes, get the outlets, get the outlets!!!! I know you love your battery operated lamps but geeeez that is a job Linda. lol. Cheers
Loving how the back yard is coming together, cann't wait!!!
Laundry room looks great. The back yard is turning out beautiful.
I really like your front yard but I absolutely LOVE the back. It feels so inviting. It beckons you to come in, sit down and have a cold ice tea. Such Southern Hospitality!
Yes on the light.yes on charging station great ideals.
Mrs. Linda tell them folks to mind their business about Your home! You worked hard for this!❤
Linda I am totally on board with what you said about getting things done at your age.
