    I learned that small dogs age roughly 15 years in the first year, 9 in the second, and then 4 years every year thereafter. This makes for an easy formula of:
    (age*4)+16 = age in "dog years"
    So a 5-year-old dog would be around about 36 in "dog years".
    If a medium-size dog ages 5 years for every year after the second, then the formula would be:
    (age*5)+14 = age in "dog years"
    Which then would make a 5-year-old dog about 39 in "dog years".
    So I suppose a good rule of thumb is to gauge the size of the dog before picking a formula.
    A small dog (Pomeranian-Chihuahua size) could be: (age*4)+16
    A medium dog (Beagle-Heeler size) could be: (age*5)+14
    A large dog (Labrador-German Shepherd size) could be: (age*6)+12
    A giant dog (Great Dane-Mastiff size) could be: (age*7)+10
    Though this is all just guesstimates. There is literally no such thing as "dog years".
    While we're here, and this is the internet, a "cat year" can be formulated: (age+6)3

    • @Rafinho32

      There are alfas in a wolf pack but mostly they are the parents of the other wolves , they live in an annual generaiton hierarchy structure (where also the sex determines the pack order secondarly). (The old wolf study appears in natural environment as an overnumbered loose giant pack structure, but they are rare and they do not last long)
      Or shortly; a normal wolf pack is a 3(-4) generation family system with 1 male alpha and 1 female alpha.

      @backpacker3421 2 роки тому +3

      Yup. Then there's the fact that your dog is not stupid enough to think you are a dog, so trying to create canine social structures is just kind of pointless. There's nothing wrong with the old standby - reinforce good behavior with healthy treats and attention, and withhold the same after bad behavior. NEVER try to punish bad behavior unless you catch it in the exact moment - for example, if you find they pooped on the carpet earlier in the day, and you call them over and show them the poop and punish them, they are more likely to connect the punishment to coming when called than to the poop.

      But it is a practical reference to how stranger dogs behave with low resources, especially independent type dogs, such as kuvasz or caucasian shepherds etc. (prison studies are in the same shoes in case of humans)
      Most of the nowadays studies still do not follow important criterias: the taken examples (dogs) and the living environment. 70 years ago it was mostly wolf studies in closed environments, nowadays ethologists test '"only" family dogs from family environment. (it is also about sponsorship)

      I’ve been thinking about this. Dogs have lived with human families for so long, wouldn’t they socially more accept a typical “family” setting as natural?
      I don’t need to be “dominant” or “alpha”, but I am the leader. Chances are I’m “mom” or “the enforcer” (I’m just consistent). I make the rules and expect them to be followed.
      They are both super sweet & well behaved. I trained with the “alpha” thing in mind, but was I really enforcing the natural “leader” or “mom” role? I would have trained the same way, but a different mindset.

    During world war 2 the military put a premium on getting people who were color blind. They found that the camouflage that worked so well with regular color sighted people in hiding enemy positions, ammunition storage, artillery pieces, etcetera, could be far easier to be seen through by color blind people. They were taught to fly spotter aircraft with the wings on top so they could fly over enemy territory to spot where their positions were at.
    That meant they never had to participate in combat operations but it also meant they were flying a slow aircraft above the enemy at fairly low altitudes and were often shot at, which is why they tried to protect the pilot and make certain they got home with a thin metal plate under the pilot and engine that was able to stop or deflect most regular rifle fire.

It's the speed of gravity, magnetism, etc. Basically the speed of causality in a vacuum. #2 The earth revolves around the sun. In actuality they both revolve around their common center of mass #3The big bang is also commonly thought of as an explosion that happened in an already existing empty universe instead of the inflation of the universe into it's boundaries. I’m surprised about the hypoallergenic thing. I’m crazy allergic to dogs, but have a labradoodle that has never given me issues

    • @lynn858
      @lynn858 2 роки тому +1

      I think that’s precisely where the idea that hypoallergenic dogs exist, comes from. But an allergy to, say dogs, can be from one or a variety of things. It’s not the same for everyone which particular things are triggers, and it can sometimes change throughout your lifetime.
      This is why some food allergies tend to be correlated with allergies to particular other foods, but that list doesn’t apply to everyone who is allergic to one of them.
      And the whole thing is further complicated by allergies and sensitivities not being exactly the same thing, but most of us conflate the two, and may not know which it is we’re dealing with.
      You just found a dog that doesn’t trigger whatever in particular you happen to be allergic to - and that’s fantastic! :)
      Before adopting a cat, I try to ensure I inhale, and get plenty of lose fur/dander etc from them on my skin - assuming they don’t set me off within minutes. If I’m not suffering within a few hours, they’re a good match for me in terms of allergens. How much they shed, or if they have dandruff doesn’t give any useful indication.

    A couple of physics misconceptions:
    1. "Splitting an atom causes a nuclear explosion": Not quite that simple. Just splitting one atom isn't enough. Indeed, radioactive atoms split all the time, that is what radioactive decay is. What causes a nuclear explosion is when there is a chain reaction, where a splitting atom releases neutrons which themselves go on to cause other atoms to split, releasing more neutrons, causing more reactions, and so on. This can only happen with enough material that behaves this way when it interacts with a neutron, which is why nuclear bombs require fissile material like U-235. The energy releazed from just one atom splitting is very small and wouldn't be noticeable without specialized equipment.
    2. "There is no gravity in space": For example, people on the ISS feel like there is no gravity, but what is actually happening is that the station and everything inside it is falling at the same speed as they are, so their relative speeds are the same, causing the feeling of weightlessness. The station doesn't fall into ground because it is in orbit and also goes sideways just the right amount for Earth, being round and therefore curved, to stay at the same distance. No matter how far away from Earth you go, you technically still experience its gravitational force, although very far away it becomes negligible.

  • @Jahmaan
    @Jahmaan 2 роки тому

    Physics misconception: Nothing can travel faster than light. If you add the conditions "through space(time)" and "in vacuum", then correct. But phenomena such as Cherenkov radiation are caused when particles travel through a medium faster than the speed of light _in_the_medium_! Also, there are distant objects that, due to the (supposedly) uniform expansion of space due to dark energy, are travelling away from us faster than the speed of light.

    • @backpacker3421
      @backpacker3421 2 роки тому

      WRT to the expansion of the universe, it is a misconception to suggest that those distant objects are traveling faster than light because they are traveling away from us at faster than light speed. In point of fact, we are each traveling from a common origin point in (roughly) opposite directions, both at considerably less than the speed of light.

  • @I.____.....__...__
    @I.____.....__...__ 2 роки тому

    - The "dog-years" thing is absurd because cats and dogs (and most animals) are precocial, they grow very rapidly very quickly to become independent, then the slow down, they don't age linearly, it's logarithmic. Humans are altricial af. 😒
    - It's odd that some cultures thought dogs' mouths and saliva are clean or medicinal while some think they're haram. 🤨
    - If a pet doesn't learn a trick, maybe it's because they just don't want to. Animals have personalities like humans do. 🤷
    - 5:12 Jun of Jun's Kitchen always lets his cats watch him cook and he always offers the ingredients he's using to them to smell to give them some stimulation so they don't get bored. I used to do the same thing with my cats. Keep them alert. 👍
    - Saying dogs need to see humans as their "alphas" is absurd. For one thing, dogs are NOT wolves, they've been inbred into oblivion, so there's no wolf instinct left in them. For another thing, it's just humans trying to dominate others, as usual. 😠
    - Just get your dog some cat-grass so that they have fresh, safe grass available if they need it.
    - If anything, humans should also be spayed and neutered. No, seriously, the world would be infinitely better.
    - Nature and Nurture both affect everything in life, but they work in very different ways. Nurture determines what's _possible_ while nature determines what actually manifests. It's sad people actually have to defend pit-bulls from false stereotypes. 🤦
    - Humans have manipulated dogs so much, that their waste isn't even natural anymore, it's toxic. 🤦

    While it was taken from a large number of people, there's an inherent bias if you ask a dog owner about their dogs traits and attribute them to the breed. Before dog attacks happen the owner often claims that their dog is sweet, calm, and wouldn't attack anyone. But stats based on breeds seem to speak louder than owner's opinions of their dogs. Especially since most owner's aren't specially trained to raise dogs.

    Um. Yes, all mammals will have bacteria in their poop, but if your dog's poop is full of parasites, you should be taking your dog to the vet.
    The reason dog poop is not healthy for your garden has more to do with the fact that they're meat-eaters, and they're domesticated. You don't compost their waste for the same reason you don't compost meat-- it spoils instead of breaking down into useful manure. And, like human waste, the bacteria and possible medications your dog is on (like, for heartworm) are probably not the kind of thing you want to be putting on your veggies.

    Spaying and neutering as a form of cancer prevention is like castrating yourself because you’re afraid of getting testicular cancer

      You might want to re-listen to that segment. It's kind of clear you didn't really understand it too well.

    Pit bulls are responsible for 65% of fatal dog attacks. That's over half from just one breed! There is NO REASON for anyone to take that risk, or expose others to it. Just pick a different breed, you will love the dog just as much.

      Only because pitties are so often trained to it. A pittie who has not been trained to fight is no more dangerous than any other large breed and is typically less aggressive than quite a few breeds.

      @@backpacker3421 WRONG. The problem with pit bulls is that they go berserk. It is NOT normal aggression, it is some kind of mental problem. That many fatal attacks is NOT just a coincidence, it is NOT just bad training. It is mental problem in the breed.

    Ok you got me, actually not all pitbulls kill babies, they just tend to at higher rates. Really disproving that one. Lol.
