During development of the 4 the found far too many issues with the tank, and the Russian army refused to accept any more shipments of the tank until vast improvements were made, which were shown in the attempts of the IS-5 and 6, both of which in the end proved unsatisfactory compared to the IS-3 which was being developed at the same time, but proved to be much better in a variety of areas and with far fewer issues with things like the transmission and engine.
