Discover Sichuan. Danba 丹巴, the Beauty Village in China (Episode 3)

Danba (丹巴) has the most beautiful village in China and with pretty girls, possibly due to its favorable environment and climate. And, we are heading there!
Our first stop is a dwelling in the Suopo Village (梭坡乡) that has the ancient watchtower. It is located 5 km from downtown Danba. The people in Suopo began to build watchtowers hundreds of years ago, mostly during the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are over 3,000 watchtowers in Danba scattered into 181 villages.
Originally the towers were used to suppress demons, later they became fortresses to protect families from aggressive enemies. It also served as warning beacons to help protect local villages from potential attackers. Most of the watchtowers belong to private families.
The door entrances are purposely built with low headroom to hinder jiangshi (殭屍) or Chinese hopping vampire from entering their homes.
Jiaju (甲居) Tibetan village is built along the mountains and valleys, like a fairy tale land in the pear blossom season, hence awarded the position of most beautiful village in China in 2005 by Chinese National Geographic. The village occupies an area of 5 sq.km and has over 140 households. The houses in red and white have at least three-storey and many have more than that. On the top of the roof, colorful prayer flags are waving in the wind. The visit would not be complete without an authentic Tibetans meal within the village.
In the evening we took a stroll to the central square in Danba town where the locals dressed in traditional outfits gathered to dance to the tune of their traditional music.
