Can you tell me about Loona, I'm kinda new. From my understanding they disbanded over some (non-pay) scandal with their company and continued on their seperate ways?
Chuu as a Soloist, and the others in Loossemble and ARTMS?
Can you tell me who's who? Are they split into other groups/soloists as well?
I'll go step by step here!
In 2022, Loona had their first World Tour, LOONATHEWORLD
During said world tour, it was announced that Chuu would not be participating because of "conflicting schedules" (mind you this was for adverts and they knew WAYY before launching the tour)
So the tour took place, and members were getting sick and injured one by one. Yeojin fainting on stage, Haseul dislocating her shoulder and struggling to eat, and many more.
As a result, for example as I witnessed it with my own two eyes, in Europe, 3 members were missing. Chuu (schedule), Choerry and Haseul (because of health related issues, Haseul even made the trip to Warsaw but decided not to continue the tour as her condition deteriorated)
So 9 members in my stop, Yeojin sitting on a chair and Yves on and off the stage because she wasn't feeling well. They barely had any time to recover in between stops.
After that, the girls announced their Japanese comeback! However, it was once again without Chuu.
But the worst part of it all, as you highlighted it, was the members not getting paid.
Yeojin "slipped" and mentioned never getting paid, Chuu spoke up about the mistreatment... and what started the boycott was Chuu's removal from the group in November 2022.
We also learned that prior to that the members were SEVERELY mistreated, Hyeju had to lose 7kg in A WEEK in order to debut, the yyxy members were starved during their shootings and recordings but had to pose with burgers and fries, Yeojin suffers from severe anorexia due to the mistreatment (not a yyxy member), they were also basically emprisonned in the company as their dorms were in the same building and they could barely go out.
We also learned why they were not getting paid: Loona has A LOT of unreleased content (some of which you can find on youtube from their cinema theory) such as seesaw mv, singing in the rain dance practice and so on, but the company used an astronomical budget for every MVs and releases, because the more expensive the content was, the bigger the debt became for the girls. Hence them getting more and more in debt over the years. They made them travel the world for MVs, bought expensive sets (you might have seen that one "meme" with Butterfly), basically going WAY over budget to emprison the girls and give them a debt they'd never be able to pay off on their own (talking a few millions per girl)
From then on, multiple platforms welcomed "Loona Union" who guided us and gave directives regarding the boycott. And here we are!
The members still have no ownership over their music. Their name however, whether it is the group name or subunits as well as stage names (oec is a great example) are all theirs. The only one who changed her stage name was Hyeju, but that's because she profoundly hated her past stage name (she had already asked fans to refer to her as Hyeju years priors)
So now, we are left with two soloists: Chuu (under ATRP) and Yves (under Paix Per Mil)
And also two "subunits": Loossemble, formed with Hyunjin, Yeojin, ViVi, GoWon and Hyeju (under CTD E&M)
And ARTMS formed with HeeJin, Haseul, Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry (under ModHaus, company of their former creative director who worked with them from the very first solo up to X X, the Butterfly album, Jaden Jeong)
ARTMS also has ODD EYE CIRCLE as one of its units as well as HeeJin who has a solo album and HaSeul and her single.
All of the companies supposedly have the goal to someday have Loona as 12 again (CTD literally means Connecting the Dots, up to recently their profile picture was 12 dots with each one representing the members' number and color being filled. ARTMS was also referred to as a project and not a group, and the members see the new groups as subunits)
The members often sing Loona songs during lives, Jinsoul mentioned not long ago that "she will always be Loona", during their world tour ODD EYE CIRCLE performed old songs such as all of their solos, old OEC songs but also Hi High (Loona's debut)
Chuu did something relatively similar and performed Heart Attack at multiple occasions, although in a different version (rock)
The members still hang out a lot together (Yves is almost a resident at GoWon's place atp), they congratulate each other on milestones... Chuu even mentioned recently that they all met at the beauty salon not long ago 😭
All of this to say, the members may be split, they'd still love to work as 12 again someday. Loona is just in a phase in which they promote individually and in subgroups, just like the predebut. And every members gets to shine equally now.
I'd also like to add that contrary to popular belief, except for Chuu who got kicked out, all of the members STILL have a contract with BBC, their former company. What they were granted thanks to court was to break off the EXCLUSIVE contract, AKA they can be signed under different companies while still remaining under BBC.
BBC is still trying to sue the girls, but they haven't won a single time. They're also prohibited from suing Chuu anymore (tried and failed too many times lol)
They're currently going bankrupt as their building has been shut down as well as their website domains and Loona's one (mind you those domains cost 10$ tops to keep up)
The boycott is STILL ongoing, even though not mandatory but heavily encouraged, as the members still have no rights over the music and BBC still gets money from it (although a low income).
What most orbits want is for Loona to finally get paid for the hardwork and hardships they have faced over the years

Loop (Yves) - Diorama, Loop, Goldfish (all four songs are top tier though)

Your top 3 on each album is so real! You honestly have a prefeted music genre but it's quite similar to mine!
