Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie said it best "I think that what our society teaches young girls, and I think it’s also something that’s quite difficult for even older women and self-professed feminists to shrug off, is that idea that likability is an essential part of you, of the space you occupy in the world, that you’re supposed to twist yourself into shapes to make yourself likable, that you’re supposed to hold back sometimes, pull back, don’t quite say, don’t be too pushy, because you have to be likable. And I say that’s bullshit."
Love listening to you talk about books. It's super relaxing for some reason! Would you mind listing the title you mention in the description box (now & in future videos)? I always have to pause and "rewind" when i miss/forget a title. As far as video suggestions go, how about one on the some books you had to read in high school and loved/hated, and why?
Your descriptions always sell me! You always give just enough information to not spoil anything, but leave us wanting more lol. Now I have to add The Girls, Drown and The Woman in Cabin 10 to my TBR😊 P.S I always shipped Harry and Hermione too. Hope you are well🤗 High✋❤-Angie
I always love that you give concrete reasons for liking or disliking a book so others can understand where you are coming from! Going to check out Drown, I think I am starting to love retold fairy tales...
Your makeup in this video is so clean and flawless. And to pinpoint on what You said about reading books that feel as if You're reading a script, I say that so many times about the past books I read, so it's good to hear someone else that it too. I also wanted to say that I had no idea about BookTube until I saw You on The Breakfast Club and I always wanted to started a channel period. So I'm here to say that You are the reason why I FINALLY started a channel and You are my Inspiration. Thanks for being You.
Ha the berry drink purple tongue moment made me giggle from the start. Before the Fall isn't out over here in the UK yet it's getting so much buzz. I wasn't a huge fan of The Girls and I wanted to love it so much 😳 I am so with you on Harry and Hermione. So with you. I am going to read Dark Matter v soon.
When you out a book on pause, what gets you back to reading it? For me, after a long time, I have to restart it so I am inclined to just pushing through to finish it once I've started
I'm glad I subscribed! We have the same taste in books. I'm currently reading The Woman in Cabin 10 and I recently finished Dark Matter (absolutely loved it btw). I'm going to give The Library at Mount Char a try.
Never heard of Drown. The Little Mermaid is my favorite fairytale, so I'll definitely give that book a try. I'm reading Dark Matter right now, but I'm not very far into it, so I don't really have an opinion yet.
The Girls is one that I've wanted to read all summer, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm hoping I can pick it up before the end of the year, and it might be nice to read it a bit later after the hype has died down a little. I really like the cover of Drown and it sounds very intriguing. I love a good fairy tale retelling. I also want to read Dark Matter and The Woman in Cabin 10 because I've been hearing so much about them!
I'm so glad you loved Manon Blackbeak (it's blackbeak :P) She's my absolute favorite character and her chapters get even more interesting in Queen of Shadows! Everytime someone mentions that they skip the witches chapter I feel my soul shrivel a little bit..So pumped for the release of Empire of Storms though :D as for the Cursed Child, I loved the feelstrip it took me on, that dystopian timeline was definitely my favorite part, and I was so glad that Scorpius and Draco were written in such an amazing way. I agree though that it has many MANY flaws, but I enjoyed it nonetheless..I actually have always been a hard Harry/Hermione shipper, but reading Cursed Child was probably the first time ever that I though that Ron and Hermione can be cute together :P
+Books Beauty Ameriie THANK YOU! I thought there was something wrong with me that I just wanted more of them and couldn't give a fig about Celeana's drama 😂
+Yvette Henry You made me look it up lol! Okay I see there is a tv show but it's based on a graphic novel and is about space/spaceships (?) so I think they only share the title but are different stories. But the author does write for tv (Fargo) so there's that aspect, which I think influences the writing. Speaking of SFF tv, have you seen STRANGER THINGS? It's amazing and I'm so ready for season 2.
In that case I'll buy the book because if I am honest, I do not like the show. Lol. No, but I have heard great things about Stranger Things but I didn't want to commit to another show. Now that you have given your recommendation I'll give it a watch this evening. :D
i'm really interested in reading the 'the woman in cabin 10". its giving me a 'stranger things' vibe. Sorry i just wanted to mention that show because i'm currently obsessed with it!
I finished Before The Fall this month, and was so disappointed! It was marketed as a mystery/ thriller but the bulk of it was more of a social commentary. By the end I didn't really care who or what had caused the plane to go down. I just downloaded The Girls through the library and I'm really looking forward to reading it! Also, love this lipstick on you! Do you remember what you were wearing?
+brooketini81 *nods* yes, I did get to the social commentary part, which I suppose I would've liked, but I didn't think I was hearing anything new or hearing what I already knew in a fresh way, like how Emma Cline articulated girlhood in THE GIRLS. That is Make Up For Ever's new Pro Sculpting Lip in #11😊
I picked up My Lady Jane and I read one chapter and I am very unsure. It actually said "boy parts" like those actual words.... I am not sure I can get over that. It was a teenage boy's inner dialogue also....I just cant...
I feel the same way about The Girls so far.. I'm 40 pages in and honestly it's a little boring. This was mostly a cover buy, other than that I just knew it was about a cult. After watching this, I'm a lot more excited to keep reading and just get over the first 100 pgs.
Darn! You always do this to me. I guess I'll be reading The Woman in Cabin 10, lol. 😂😀 S/N What's going on in the right corner of the video? Something or someone keeps moving. ☺
Dark Matter and Heir of Fire are some of my all time favorite books!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍

Have you ever read Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin? Read it last month and gave it four out of five stars. Very good and loved the atmosphere in it.
I'm glad I subscribed! We have the same taste in books. I'm currently reading The Woman in Cabin 10 and I recently finished Dark Matter (absolutely loved it btw). I'm going to give The Library at Mount Char a try.

I'm currently reading "Girls on Fire" by Robin Wasserman. It's so good! I'm downloading "The Girls" next. Love your channel!

+Books Beauty Ameriie THANK YOU! I thought there was something wrong with me that I just wanted more of them and couldn't give a fig about Celeana's drama 😂
Dark Matter is a TV show so that may be why it reads in such a way. I am not sure if the TV show was made before the book.
+Yvette Henry You made me look it up lol!
