Great selection, Chris. The Shelagh McDonald album is a gem. I also managed to find one last year. Mick Abrahams formed Blodwyn Pig after he left Tull and they recorded two albums before he left them to form the M.A. band. They did make one album before At Last called A Musical Evening With......I think they were a 4-piece at the time and then Jack Lancaster who was the sax player in Blodwyn Pig joined for At Last. As you say, a great album. All my Doors albums are 70's reissues and sound very good.
Chris ... here's a little coincidence that you may not know? You recently showed us a Babe Ruth album and their version of 'Private Number' is on the Harvest Heritage 20 Greats compilation album. Now you have Quatermass and they're also on that record with 'Black Sheep Of The Family'. The Harvest Heritage album came out in 1977 and I bought it for the BJH factor. I'm quite new to your channel and I'm very much enjoying it. You don't talk down to your viewers which some of the record collectors certainly do! Keep up the good work and many thanks ... Rod.
Great to see you are into Family too, one of my favourites, Its only a movie is the only one i dont have (i think its their final album). my absolute favourites are the 1st album, Music from a Dolls House, and Fearless from 71, when John Wetton was briefly with them
Result on Stargazer. I just never see either of her lps in my part of the world. You can get a US 2nd press of the Shuggie lp (orange Epic label rather than 1st press yellow) which is still from the 70s and its obviously cheaper than the 1st press. Nice buys mate....Nigel
Great video again great finds. I agree with your proposal about Doors Records. They sound amazing and have great stereo feeling. Quartermass and Shuggie Otis are also among the specials.....
Hi I have many different doors albums but I keep going back to theid 70s reissues because they sound really good plus the right bass. All the best Chris.
Back in the day, I saw Carmen live - they opened up for Bowie and they are extraordinary live - including duo tap-dancing on a regal rug! I have both Carmen albums in my collection. Just recently found the 2nd Wild Turkey LP - saw them live - they opened up for Jethro Tull back in the 70's. Need to find that Box Tops album (AND Quatermass - used to have that in my 1st LP collection!)
Very nice finds Chris, whether pre loved or reissued. I have and original Canadian press of Quatermas, which I found in the delete bin back in ‘74. Fantastic. I’m looking for that Otis record, maybe I’ll get lucky one day and find an original. I have a copy of Carmen’s Dancing on a Cold Wind which I’ve had since it’s release. It’s on Regal, and also produced by Visconti. Very Spanish influenced as well. That Abrahams album is special. I’ve never seen a copy. I’m a big Family fan, have all their albums, nice find for a fiver. Alex Chilton had a great voice. I have an original of Soft Parade, which was a delete copy. Wasn’t one of their huge sellers and was dropped from the catalogue. Not bragging about any of this, it’s just that I’ve kept my collection since forever, and I’m an old geezer 😂😉. Cheers buddy.
Wow, amazing haul! Carmen and Quatemass may be two of the best prog albums of all time. That Mick Abrahams is super rare, I've never seen one! What a great find. The one you have there is the second album by them. Their first self titled (1971?) is excellent and not too pricey.
Hi George ,I need to find more Carmen what an album also I'll keep an eye out for mick Abraham's first album as the one I have is very good . All the best Chris..
Quatermass an absolute classic - ended up picking up the Akarma Italian pressing because it's a double and includes some unreleased tracks that appeared on the reissued CD
carmen great group got all their albums on cd .i think their last lps are concept albums.visconti was the producer of david bowie and t rex?this is the fusion of flamingo guitar and dancing together with progressive rock.GREAT ALBUM my favourite.
The Shelagh Mcdonald is a great find..I have the title track on a folk comp and it's wonderful..an interesting mix reminds me a little of Nick Drake and early Kate Bush. Nice Family, " Only A Movie" was their final studio album from 1973..the follow up album of Charlie Whitney and Roger Chapman is better though in my opinion.
Hi Chris, I’ve bought a few MOV releases. They are done very well. I’ve no idea whether their releases are enhanced CD rips, or whether they get access to tapes via a licence in the way labels like Arcade and Ronco used to back in the 70s. However, I cringe at the current infatuation with coloured vinyls. I’ve no idea if this is to do with a shortage of source material, but just give me standard black. I don’t know how you’ve found it but there is a theory that clear vinyl is one of the worst sounding. Regardls, Gary - Norwich
Hi Gary ,interesting observation, both the quatermas and comus albums are on clear vinyl and they should sound better ,they don't sound bad,the shuggie ptis album is on black vinyl all 3 are on mov and it sounds awesome really good . All the best Chris.
