  • Daniel, Michael, and Kevin planned to go to Disneyland Hong Kong for Michael's birthday in september 2018. Unforseen extreme weather, also known as Mangkhut, put a damper on those plans to visit Disneyland Hong Kong. Here, we show some of the powerful weather conditions that we endured before finally departing to the Disneyland Explorer Lodge in Hong Kong.
Although Hong Kong Disneyland park was closed during our initial visit, we still stayed at one of their resorts called the Explorer Lodge to celebrate Michael’s birthday.
The world of color restaurant is considered to be more average quality food than their more upscale Dragon Wind restaurant. Both were closed during our stay because of the circumstances.
The Explorer’s Lodge has some similar theming as the Animal Kingdom Lodge minus the real animals.
Nextdoor to our hotel is the Disneyland Hollywood hotel evoking a golden era of Hollywood from the 30’s and 40s. It’s usually a cheaper alternative to the newer Explorer Lodge. The rooms are much smaller than you’d find at the Explorer Lodge too.. If you stay here, nobody will question whether or not you are cheap. It’s still a great hotel.
There’s few non Disney hotels around Lantau island. So if you are on a super budget, you’ll need to stay in Hong Kong and then ride the MTR into the island, which is at least a fifteen minute trip and then a transfer to the 6 minute Disneyland train.
The CKS ferry will get you to and from Mainland China to Hong Kong, Zuhai, and Macau.
Tung Chung, this former fishing town, has seen major redevelopment in recent years to complement the airport that was built here in the 1990.s
Yesterday we were hunkered down in a Mcdonalds underground seeking shelter from a major typhoon. Today, at least Michael and I, are excited to see Hong Kong Disneyland- the first Disneyland park outside of the United States we’ve ever visited. Whereas Kevin has visited Disneyand Paris already.
Disney learned valuable lessons from the failures of the opening of Euro Disney for not incorporating enough French culture. Here in Hong Kong, Disney took extraordinary measures to incorporate Chinese culture by seeking guidance from a Fengh Shui master.
The Hong Kong Disneyland main gate you see here was built with a 12 degree angle facing in a north/south direction for good luck based on the ancient Chinese art of Fengh Shi. The use of water is commonly used throughout the park as it is also a crucial element of good luck and wealth according to Feng Shui.
On the west walkway of the train station opposite this one, Disney created a bend to ensure positive energy, or chi, does not slip past the entrance and out into to the China sea.
