Lovato and the Ribeiro brothers do a hip cut, not a knee cut, though they don't call it that. In their normal knee cross, not this one, they "build a wall" against the knee shield by connecting their shoulder/elbow to the far hip/side with a lapel grip and elbow serving as the underhook. The knee shield is blocked and body is forcing the opponent to do a groin stretch that freezes them. They point the knee to the side, but unlike other guys who used to do that and abandoned it because it didn't work for them, these guys have all of the pressure on their hips, which they slide over but never to the mat. The guys who abandoned the knee cross where the knee travels sideways over the thigh all put their weight into their knee. That's easy to defend. For Lovato/Ribeiro the hips stay on the guy with 80% of the body weight. Leandro Lo had a great jumping speed knee cross that Andrew Wiltse has done instructionals that works great if you're fast and athletic enough to stabilize afterwards. Lepri/Mendes brothers have a good one where the knee comes straight down to one point on the mat touching the hip. That sets up a back take, which they favor. Lovato/Ribeiro are mount studs and theirs sets up mount better.
@@brandonjenkins4324 The 10th planet system uses a variation labeled “judo side control” in which the outside arm under hooks the opponents outside arm. Kesa getame is a weak position in bjj as it is more of a control position rather than a threatening one. Judo side control opens up possibilities for arm bars, top mount, and north south kimura options.
@@lukehunter2362 that's OK you haven't come across a strong kesa gatame player yet. Josh Barnett is not the only black belt that utilizes it. You're on UA-cam, you can find vids.
Thanks sir. You are a wonderful human person animal.
😂

What is the difference between knee slice and knee cut?
The name
Cross Knee, Knee Cross, Knee Cut, Knee Slice, Knee Slide. BJJ has lots of names for the same things.
6:49 Exception // They turn
The only issue with this variation is that while you knee lands on his thigh he can sweep to the opposite side where you don’t have your base.
When this happens, he goes to side smash which is his signature move 😉
The secret ingredient in this stuff.;)
Great move .... But why not got go for kesa gatme much stronger hold with stronger submissions
jhiggs 420 not in bjj.. weak position
@@impolitikful Not true. A powerful kesa gatame is a terrifying weapon.
Knox David not in bjj
