This is why we have 'zakaat' and 'sadaqat' in Islam. 'Zakaat' 'ensures that 2.5 percent of our savings per year goes to feed the poor, needy, etc. This is an obligation and must be done. That 2.5 percent does not belong to us. Allah Almighty has Himself mandated it as a right to the poor and needy. 'Sadaqat' is voluntary donations to help the poor and needy for which we get huge benefits and rewards. The rewards can continue even after we die.
