It reminds me of how Shannon would give more specific and disingenuously nuanced pro Lebron arguments on Undisputed and instead of calling out the lies or correcting Shannon's misleading framing, Skip would look like he had no answer and just double down on "6-0 in the finals" and "killer instinct". It's all so blatant how these shows treat their audiences like morons and yet it seems to work on a lot of people. The most disappointing people to me is Reggie Miller and Shannon Sharpe. If Lebron James had played at the time Reggie Miller was, and stood on that court like he does, Reggie would've had a field day talking trash to him. Shannon Sharpe was a mean, powerful dude when he wore a football jersey. Put him in front of a microphone and somehow he's like "Yes sir." So disappointing because those two guys I would've expected them to call every little thing out, and talk never ending trash.
Everyone you mentioned is miles better of a player than Lebron. The reason when Lebron tells the Lakers to Jump and the Lakers say how High?? Is because having Lebron on your team means you will get no fouls called on your team and get fouls called every time they get touched. Lebron is the first superstar to not only get Superstar calls but his entire team gets superstar calls and that is worth a lot of money. Crazy thing is Big Media can't talk about this out loud.
I had the misfortune of watching an episode of Gil's Arena for the first time and it had John Salley on it doing his usual schtick of pretending to be objective but consistently trying to chip away at MJ's legacy. This time the argument was that the triangle is what got MJ six rings and the implication was that LeBron got four rings with no system and how that might be more impressive.
They even have one guy on there who makes half-baked arguments for Jordan as the supposed "LeBron hater" but he doesn't give the obvious counter arguments to the nonsense coming from Arenas which makes it appear as if he's just clinging to some sort of irrational Jordan fandom in the face of better evidence for LeBron being the GOAT.
It reminds me of how Shannon would give more specific and disingenuously nuanced pro Lebron arguments on Undisputed and instead of calling out the lies or correcting Shannon's misleading framing, Skip would look like he had no answer and just double down on "6-0 in the finals" and "killer instinct".
It's all so blatant how these shows treat their audiences like morons and yet it seems to work on a lot of people. It's no better than the BS you see in politics with corporate owned news like MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News all manipulating people to vote dem or repub for bad faith reasons. As long as it's like this, there will always be a place for detailed and honest pushback against the LeBron narrative.
